H ealth care changes practically every day. No other industry undergoes such a rapid transformation. We are continually embracing new advancements in prevention, diagnosis, treatment and support services. is year, Monongahela Valley Hospital (MVH) marks our 40th anniversary of enhancing the health of the residents of the mid-Monongahela Valley. In 1978, when our Hospital opened its doors, the health care industry was facing many challenges — much like today. It is an understatement to say that we have come a long way in those four decades. Today, MVH’s medical staff has grown to more than 225 physicians in over 40 specialties. Our Charles L. and Rose Sweeney Melenyzer Pavilion and Regional Cancer Center, which was the first of its kind in Washington, Fayette and Greene counties and continues to be one of the few independent cancer centers in the region, offers some therapies that are not even available at larger academic facilities. rough the years, we have introduced programs and services, such as hyperbaric oxygen therapy in our Center for Wound Management, telemedicine for the evaluation of strokes, the Orthopedic Institute for total joint replacement and our Cardiac Catheterization Lab with angioplasty, which ensure that residents of this region do not have to travel far from home for cutting- edge medical care. Most recently, we expanded our outpatient services with the opening of Monongahela Valley Hospital Outpatient Center — California.
