Sharon Baptist Church Yearly Review 2016 Contents Introduction 1 New Leadership 1 Physical Work Accomplished 2 Spiritual Work Accomplished 2 Youth 2 Missions 3 Children 4 A Look Ahead 4 As we enter a new year, we look back with gratitude at what God accomplished in the previous year. Some things changed, and some things stayed the same. I’ll begin with what seemed to stay the same. Our attendance for both Sunday School and Morning Worship remained consistent from previous years as did our giving. Some changes from 2015 were our participation in a mission trip, outreach nights through the summer, and the addition of new deacons. Throughout it all, our desire to glorify Christ remains the same. I hope you enjoy reflected on a wonderful year. New Leadership I wasn’t long at Sharon before I was confronted with the question, “When are we going to add new deacons?” I was hoping for time to get acclimated to the church before pursuing this need, and the church graciously allowed the time needed. Before we pursued candidates, we prayed for several months for the Lord to give wisdom and guidance. We believe He answered that prayer by adding these men as deacons: • Jordan Burge • Stuart Crafton • Ralph Steel Please join me in praying for these men as they assume their roles. 2016

Asweenteranewyear,welookbackwithgratitudeatwhatGodaccomplishedinthepreviousyear.Somethingschanged,andsomethingsstayedthesame.I’llbeginwithwhatseemedtostaythesame.OurattendanceforbothSundaySchoolandMorningWorshipremainedconsistentfrompreviousyearsasdidourgiving.Somechangesfrom2015wereourparticipationinamissiontrip,outreachnightsthroughthesummer,andtheadditionofnewdeacons.Throughoutitall,ourdesiretoglorifyChristremainsthesame.Ihopeyouenjoyreflectedonawonderfulyear.

NewLeadershipIwasn’tlongatSharonbeforeIwasconfrontedwiththequestion,“Whenarewegoingtoaddnewdeacons?”Iwashopingfortimetogetacclimatedtothechurchbeforepursuingthisneed,andthechurchgraciouslyallowedthetimeneeded.Beforewepursuedcandidates,weprayedforseveralmonthsfortheLordtogivewisdomandguidance.WebelieveHeansweredthatprayerbyaddingthesemenasdeacons:

Withtheageofourbuildings,therearealwaysprojectsthatneedtobedonetohelpwiththemaintenanceandupkeepofourfacilities.Thisyear,werefurbishedoursanctuaryfoyerafteritwasdamagedbywater.Werepairedoursidewalkandstepsheadingintoourbasement.Repairstoourheatingandcoolingunitswerealsocompleted.

YouthMinistryItwasafantasticyearforouryouth!Theyouthgrouptookpartinvisitations,outreachprojects,variousfellowships,and,mostimportantly,engagedtheGospeleachweekandspenttimelearningaboutdiscipleship.

Duringthesummermonths,theyouthplayedinthechurchsoftballleague(inwhichtheywerecrownedLeagueCHAMPS!!!)andattendedsummercampatJonathanCreek.ItwasduringsummercampthattwoofouryouthpronouncedfaithinJesusChristasLordandSavior,andfollowedinbeliever’sbaptism:DaltonSimmonsandEmileeWest.AndinNovember,threeofouryouthtookpartinourDiscipleshipNOWweekendaswestudiedMicah6:8!

In2016westartedcombinedourmissionsgivingunderoneoffering,theSharonOnMissionOffering.WethankGodthatweraised$5k.ThechurchalsogenerouslyblessedchurchplantersRickandKrissyDowningandthemissionaryfamilytheSmileyswithloveofferings.

MISSIONSGOING

Inthespringandsummer,wetriedtotakeoneSundaynightamonthtouseasan“outreachnight.”Weusedthesespecialnightstolovinglymeetspiritualandphysicalneedsofourcommunity,tovisitprospects,tofollowuponvisitorsandfriendswehadn’tseeninawhile,andtocheckonourshut-ins.Ladiesprovidedbreadandcookiestohelpwithourvisits.Thesenightsprovedtobeamuch-neededmission’soutletforourcongregationandwewillcontinuethemin2017.

Membersfromourchurchwentonamission’striptoSacaton,AZtoministertothePimaTribe.WedidthisinpartnershipwithourSouthernBaptistchurchplantersandoursisterchurch,FirstBaptistofMayfield.WeministeredinFirstPimaBaptistChurchandthenweprovidedacampfortheyouthofthecommunity.WehadanamazingtimeexperiencingandparticipatingintheLord’swork.ManyfromthegroupsharedhowtheywerepositivelyimpactedbytheweekandanumberofyouthandevenoneofourworkersreceivedChristastheirLordandSavior.

Children’sMinistry

ThisyearwemadeamajorchangeinourWednesdaynightchildren’sministry.ForyearswehadusedAWANAwithgreatsuccess,butinrecentyears,wefounditnotmeetingtheneedsofourchildren.WedecidedonanewprogramwecallKingdomKidz.TheprogramimplementsTheGospelProjectcurriculumandhassofarworkedwellforus.

SomeofourkidsexperiencedKid’sCampandJonathonCreek.Itwasagreattimeandsomethingthat,inthefuture,weregularlyparticipatein.Alongwithcampourkidsalsoparticipatedinhomefellowships,ourEasterEggHuntandourFallfestival.

WhatcanIdotomake2017agreatyear?Aswereflecton2016,wearesogratefulforalltheLordhasdone.Aswebegin2017,wedesireforthisyeartobethegreatestyearourchurchhaseverexperienced.Inordertoseethathappen,therearecertaindisciplineswecanjoinin.WecanyieldourselvestotheLordwitheachnewday,prayregularlyforSharon(seethelistthatfollows),committobegoodstewardsofGod’sresources,endeavortobefaithfulinregularattendance,lookforwaystoshareourfaithandinvitefolksintothefold.PRAYFORGODTO:
