THE COCKROACH Probably no other pest is viewed with such disdain. In addition to carrying bacteria like salmonella, cockroaches increase the risk of asthma, especially in children. The three most common cockroaches are the German cockroach, the brown-banded cockroach, and the Orientalcockroach.

FLEASCtenocephalides felisThese wingless, flat-bodiedparasites vary from brownto black and have hind legsfor jumping. They consumeblood and move betweenpeople, cats, dogs, and otherwarm-blooded animals. Fleas can host tapeworms and their bites cause itching.
THE COCKROACH Probably no other pest is viewed with such disdain. In addition to carrying bacteria like salmonella, cockroaches increase the risk of asthma, especially in children. The three most common cockroaches are the German cockroach, the brown-banded cockroach, and the Orientalcockroach.
The reddish-brown saw-toothed grain beetle,Oryzaephilussurinamensis,isoneofthemost common grain pests. It breeds in stored grain, cereal, flour, nuts, rice, beans, spices, chocolate, dog food, bird seed, and similar foods. The Indian meal moth,Plodia interpunctella, has copper and white wings.Asalarva,themothspinsawebaroundfood— grains, dried fruit, nuts, dog food, and beans.Othergraininsectsincludethecigarettebeetle,confused flour beetle, and the grain moth. Infestedproducts must be eliminated prior to service.
