Week 5 Shared Reads Version A Dear Year 4, I hope you are well. I would like to tell you about some of the activities I do at the weekend. I really like to be outside as much as possible. One of my favourite activities is fishing. I go fishing with my father, uncle and brothers most weekends. Sometimes we fish in the river, and sometimes we go out to sea in my uncle’s boat. My uncle’s boat is bigger than my father’s boat so it is safer in the waves. Last weekend we caught a 2 meter long shark! I was excited but my younger brother was afraid of the shark’s big teeth! When we pulled it into the boat, it jumped, wriggled and thrashed its tail back and forth. We all had to help hold it still while my father took the hook out of its mouth. It was great fun. What do you like to do at the weekend? I look forward to hearing from you soon. From Hanif Dear Year 4,

Dear Year 4,

I hope you are well. I would like to tell you about some of the activities I do at the weekend. I really like to be outside as much as possible.

One of my favourite activities is fishing. I go fishing with my father, uncle and brothers most weekends. Sometimes we fish in the river, and sometimes we go out to sea in my uncles boat. My uncles boat is bigger than my fathers boat so it is safer in the waves. Last weekend we caught a 2 meter long shark! I was excited but my younger brother was afraid of the sharks big teeth! When we pulled it into the boat, it jumped, wriggled and thrashed its tail back and forth. We all had to help hold it still while my father took the hook out of its mouth. It was great fun.

What do you like to do at the weekend? I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Dear Year 4,

I hope you are well. I am writing to tell you what I like to do in the school holidays. I like to be outside as often as I can. One of my favourite activities is snorkelling. Do you know what snorkelling is?

I went snorkelling with my family in the school holidays when we went to Kota Kinabalu. We took a boat to Manukan Island and we spent the day snorkelling around the coral reefs. There were many different kinds of fish, with lots of beautiful colours.

I saw a huge octopus. It was grey and pink and it was in a hole in the coral. I think it was hiding from me! I also saw a stingray but I stayed away from it because I didnt want it to sting me!

What do you like to do in your school holidays? I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Dear Year 4,

I hope you are well. I would like to tell you about some of the activities I like to do at the weekend. One of my favourite activities is riding on a big banana. That sounds funny doesnt it? Do you know what I mean?

Last weekend my family and I went to Serasa. There was a scuba diving centre there and they had water sports. We watched people riding on a big yellow banana pulled around behind a very fast speedboat. It looked like so much fun I asked my mother if I could have a turn. She said as long as I wore a life jacket, and my big brother came with me, it was ok. I was so excited, and a little nervous too. We put on life jackets and climbed onto the banana. There was a handle to hold onto. I held on very tightly because I didnt want to fall off. My brother sat behind me. The speedboat was very fast and the water splashed all over me. The wind felt cool on my face. The ride ended too soon. I wanted another turn but my mother said I must wait for our next trip to Serasa.

What do you like to do at the weekend? I look forward to hearing from you.

Dear Year 4,

I hope you are well. I would like to tell you about the activities I enjoy in the school holidays. I really like to be outside. One of my favourite activities is river cruising. My father has a boat so we can go whenever we like. Have you ever been river cruising?

Last school holidays I went with my father to Temburong. We left early in the morning. The tide was low so my father had to be careful not to hit any logs. Just as we left Kampong Ayer I saw an enormous crocodile sitting on the mud next to the river. It had its mouth open and I could see all of its sharp teeth! I was a little afraid but my father said it was just resting in the sun. As we continued on our trip, I saw many white birds fishing in the water. I also saw a group of monkeys walking along a muddy bank. My father said they might be looking for crabs. I laughed! Just before we got to Temburong, there was a large monitor lizard sitting up in one of the trees. It was very still and I wondered if it was real. I really love seeing all the special wildlife when I go river cruising with my father.

What do you like to do in your school holidays? I look forward to hearing from you soon.
