Topic: RE:

Love your neighbour/Love the Lord

Mark 12:30-31

When Jesus was teaching, someone came up to him and asked him what he thought was the greatest commandment of all. This is what Jesus replied: “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind, and with all your strength.” The second most important commandment is this: “Love your neighbour as yourself. There is no other commandment more important than these two.” DESIGN a poster to show the message of one OR both of these commandments.

Facts About Ancient Egyptian Food

• One of the stable foods that the ancient Egyptians loved was bread.

• They had a strong liking for garlic

• Green vegetables

• Onions

• Figs

• Dates

• Cheese and Butter

• Fish

• Beer was very popular also

How easy was it to get food?

When you look at the country of Egypt, you see large areas of dry hot desert.

The Egyptians did have one thing going for them: The River Nile.

Each year, the river would flood, covering areas with rich thick silt and mud.

This was necessary for them because it brought fertilizers to the land.

The Nile water was used for the water needed for farmlands, and this meant that the ancient Egyptians had a lot of food to grow and eat.

Page 11: Year 3 & 4 Mon 22 June 2020 - St Mary's Sabden€¦ · So they drank beer made from barley. The beer was very thick, about the thickness of a milk shake. Beer did not have very high

What did they grow?

Evidence from pictures and hieroglyphs show that Egyptians used their farmland to grow a number of crops.

The most important was wheat.

Ancient Egypt Food

The ancient Egyptians loved garlic. They also ate green vegetables, lentils, figs, dates, onions, fish, birds, eggs, cheese, and butter.

Page 12: Year 3 & 4 Mon 22 June 2020 - St Mary's Sabden€¦ · So they drank beer made from barley. The beer was very thick, about the thickness of a milk shake. Beer did not have very high

Their staple foods were bread and beer.

Breads were sweetened with dates, honey, and figs or dates. They had flatbreads. They even had yeast breads.

Breads were made with barley and wheat.

Beer was the most common drink in ancient Egypt. There were very few wells.

Most ancient Egyptians did not want to drink water directly from the Nile. The Nile River offered fresh water,

but the ancient Egyptians had observed that people became sick after drinking the water. So they drank beer made from barley.

The beer was very thick, about the thickness of a milk shake. Beer did not have very high alcoholic content,

but it was very nutritional, and a most important part of the ancient Egyptian daily diet.

Beer was also safer than drinking water from the Nile. The Egyptians made both white and red wine from grapes.

They added spices and honey to various wines for variety. They made a non-alcoholic fruit drink from dates.

Year 3

The slimy little frog swam back up from the bottom of the pond. In his mouth, he held her golden ball.

Triumphantly, he dropped it at her feet and smiled up at her.

“I’ll take my reward now,” he croaked, puckering his wrinkly lips.

“Yuck! I’m not kissing you,” the princess sneered.

“You have to. You promised.” The frog pulled a forlorn face and looked down at the ground.

“Fine,” the princess sighed. “Let’s get this over with.”

She crouched down next to the frog, closed her eyes and kissed him.

There was a sudden flash of light and the princess fell backwards.

Wide-eyed, she stared at the frog as he began to transform…

1. What did the frog return to the princess?

The pianist stopped playing and the men playing cards froze. The man in black walked towards the barkeeper.

“Whiskey,” he growled and slammed a dollar down on the bar.

With shaking hands, the barkeeper poured the man his drink.

As the man touched the glass to his lips, the doors of the saloon burst open.

“I’m here to take you in, Bill,” declared the sheriff, his voice trembling.

Slowly, the man in black drained his glass and turned to face the sheriff.

In the blink of an eye, the man pulled his gun from its holster and fired…

1. What happened when the man in black entered the saloon?
