Woman goes five years without shampoo with surprising resultsYoung mother Jacquelyn Byers hasn’t washed her hair with shampoo for about five years and she claims it’s in better shape than when she used to shampoo it.

“My hair is softer, less greasy and a prettier colour since I stopped us-ing shampoo,” she tells Today. “It doesn’t vacillate any more from super greasy to cracked and dry.”

Byers is part of a growing movement of people who have stopped using shampoo and conditioner because of concerns that the chemicals in them are unhealthy and can penetrate the scalp.

“If you wouldn’t be comfortable drinking it, why would you be comfort-able slathering it all over your head and then rinsing it down your body?” she writes on her blog, Little Owl Crunchy Momma.

Also see: The top 5 sexiest hairstyles in historyTraditional shampoos contain chemicals such as parabens, phthalates and petroleum byproducts -- all substances that Byers tried to avoid when she was pregnant and initially tried organic, all-natural shampoos.

However, after reading the labels on those supposedly ‘all-natural’ sham-poo products, she discovered many of them also contain potentially harm-ful chemicals, which resulted in her switching to simply using baking soda and apple cider vinegar to cleanse her hair-- a concoction she read about online.

While that solution worked for a bit, it sometimes left her hair dry and she wasn’t entirely happy with the results.

This ultimately led Byers to quit using anything on her hair. She’s been shampoo-free now for about five years and judging by the pictures she’s posted on her blog, you’d never know.

As for whether people tell her that her hair smells or looks dirty, she re-sponds that it hasn’t been an issue.“Never, I am continually complimented on how soft and beautiful my hair looks.”

Byers suggests that everyone try to go ‘poo-free, but cautions that it will take a few months for your hair to adjust.

“I would highly recommend everyone try it, or if they don’t want to try it, at least educate themselves on what is in the products they are using,” she says.

It’s obvious Vic Sotto doesn’t get it.

And to top it all off, he even ad-mitted he has not read it. But he responded anyway, dismissing it as just one of those conventional showbiz brickbats.

Lourde de Veyra’s “open let-ter” was the only critique about Vic’s Metro Maniila Film Fesival (MMFF) 2013 film My Little Bossings, and his entire filmog-raphy that really nailed it. It was really less about what the film missed out, as those were already the subject of most reviews. It was more of what De Veyra felt Vic can do more with the im-mense power or influence he ex-udes in the industry, the clout he enjoys, and the “bossing” that he is in churning out box-office win-ners.

Actually, the context was constructive, even helpful for Vic in charting his ca-reer further.

Yet, the tragedy of it all is that Vic is seemingly out of it, and wants none of it—to the point of trivializing it. Why should he think of it as an “attack”, most surprising of which was that it so “offended” his current flame, Pauleen Luna, that he had to “speak out”?

In his interview with Philippine Enter-tainment Portal, Vic said that though he wished he could have read De Veyra’s letter, he said it would have been best if he told it to him personally.

And he continued in his PEP interview that he is “open to all criticisms, lalo na kung constructive” and respects them, just like the “millions who watched his films.” He said this is part of being in a “democracy.” Well, yes, he really miss-es the point.

The low pressure area in the Visayas has developed into a tropical depres-sion.

Weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Friday upgraded a low pressure area south of the country to Tropical Depression “Agaton.”

Agaton, which was last spotted 165 km Northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, has accumulated more moisture and energy while lingering in the Philippine sea, packing maximum winds of 55 kilometer per hour near the center. It is forecast to move West at 5 kilometers per hour.Public Storm Warning Signal no. 1 is now hoisted over Southern Leyte, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Dinagat Province, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Davao Oriental and Compostella Valley. These areas are expected to experience winds of at least 30 to 60 kilometers per hour in the next 36 hours. Sea travel is risky along these coasts.

According to PAGASA weather forecasting chief Rene Paciente, Agaton would backtrack to the south, being pushed downward by winds from the northeast monsoon and is expected to make landfall in the Eastern section of Mindanao by Saturday afternoon.

Agaton will continue to bring showers to the lower half of the country, mostly in the central and southern section.

Now that you want to get back on the fitness track in order to get rid of the holiday pounds, where do you start?

The answer for weight loss will always and forever be cardio. While not all cardio is created equal, there IS a cardio routine for everyone.

Here are a few fun ways to shed the pounds:

BOX FOR FUN!

Boxing is a great way to burn calories because it’s interactive. Most of the time at boxing gyms, your instructor will have you do different things in a one-hour time frame. This includes skip rope, drills, speedball, punching bag and sparring. It’s almost like cross training because you usually alter-nate exercises in short bursts of time. By the time you finish one hour, an average 120-pound woman can lose over 500 calories.

RUN OUTDOORS!

If you hate the treadmill, you might change your mind about running if you bring yourself outdoors to do so. The change in scenery makes it more interesting than just seeing other machines around you. If you aren’t lucky enough to live close to an area conducive to jogging, perhaps you can make it a weekend workout when you have the time to drive to the closest place and run like the wind. An hour of running at the pace of a mile every 10 minutes, an average 120-pound woman can lose close to 600 calories.

ZUMBA!

Do you find it hard to control yourself when you hear your favorite song? Zumba is the perfect cardio for you if that’s the case. A 60-minute class at mid-intensity can already burn about 430 calories and allow you to show off your moves!

TAKE ON CROSSFIT!

If you like high-intensity workouts, you’ll love crossfit. It’s a mix of car-dio and weights in the form of sandbags and kettlebells, plyometrics and a whole lot of Olympic athlete-level stuff. It’s definitely not boring and will push you to your limits. It burns about 472 calories per hour for a 120-pound woman.

The final bell has tolled for World Boxing Council president Don Jose Sulaiman who was unmistakably a giant in his time and steered the WBC to new heights under a nearly 34 year stewardship. He was 82. For sure Sulaiman has been subjected to bitter and sometimes mean criticism by some boxing writers for the things he did and the things he failed or refused to do. However, one thing that stands out is his unmistakably sincere affection and respect for the Philippines and its boxers, two of whom – “Fighter of the Decade” Manny Pacquiao and the late world junior lightweight champion Gabriel “Flash” Elorde were among his all-time favorites. Pacquiao was a particular favorite of Sulaiman who always told us that Manny may have won the belts of other organizations but he would always remember him as a WBC champion whose first title was the famous green and gold belt he won with a spectacular 8th round knockout of Thai hero Chatchai Sasakul on December 3, 1998 on the outskirts of Bangkok. But Sulaiman’s all-time favorite was the late world junior lightweight champion Gabriel “Flash” Elorde who was honored in New York on the 20th anniversary of the WBC as the greatest 130 pound champion alongside the classy Nicaraguan, Alexis Arguello. In a special message included in a documentary produced by Viva Sports on “The Flash Elorde Story” Sulaiman said “I am one of the people that thinks of Flash Elorde as one of the greatest fighters who ever lived not only in the rng but also as a human being.”

Sulaiman recalled “I met him by seeing a couple of his fights and afterwards in 1953 when we had a meeting at the United Nations in New York, Elorde was there with his entire family and received a gold and green belt that did not exist at that time.”

Sulaiman said “I remember him with his tears of pride of dignity and honor” noting that “boxers like Flash Elorde do not exist anymore. Today boxing is how much money and with whom am I going to fight. Elorde would say ‘When? I’ll be there.’”

The WBC president said “I think Flash Elorde stands in the WBC as an example to the young people and the people of the world and I take this oppor-tunity to send to his family and all of the Philippines, my gratitude for having had such a great boxer and my hero… Flash Elorde.”

The final bell tolls for Don Jose Sulaiman, a giant in his time.

Ashton has ‘ordered rare diamond’Ashton Kutcher has reportedly ordered a $2.9 million engagement ring for Mila Kunis.

The two stars sparked speculation they had begun a romance in 2012 and their relationship was confirmed last year. They have known each other for many years as they starred in That ‘70s Show together and it seems that now Ashton’s divorce from Demi Moore is final he is ready to completely move on.

“Ashton is planning on proposing to Mila very soon. He asked her dad, Mark, for his permis-sion at her brother’s wedding in December and has ordered a rare diamond to make the ring,” an insider told British magazine Closer.

Ashton has apparently kept things simple by asking a jewelry company Mila is ambassador for to help with the band. It is being made by ethical firm Gemfields and he has gone all out with it.

“He’s asked designer Arpita Navlakha to create an 18-carat gold ring set among 25 rose-cut pink diamonds,” the source explained.

Rumors Ashton, 35, was ready to propose to his 30-year-old girlfriend began circulating last year. However, it was widely claimed that Mila didn’t want to move forward with the relation-ship until Ashton’s divorce was finalised.

Kris Aquino has declared that she has not been having sex and that’s the reason why, among many other good things happening in her life, her movie with her son James “Bimby” Aquino Yap, “My Little Bossings,” was the top-grosser in the Metro Manila Film Festival.

We had to investigate this phenomenon. Although we do not personally believe that what she does or does not do in her bedroom should be held against her in any way, we do want to investigate her claim that her celibacy has contributed to her recent good fortune and, if possible, maybe good fortune for the entire universe as well?

While Ms. Aquino has indicated no clear timeline from when she stopped playing “hide the salami,” it is very clear that it would take some time for her celibacy to somehow have an effect. It was up to our investigative powers to determine what that timeline is.

Here’s what we know: True, her marriage was officially annulled in February 2012, but notwithstanding an attempt at a reconciliation with the cager that resulted in her “quitting” showbiz in March last year, there were also rumors of her dating either Jun Jun “Kilala Mo Ba Ako” Binay or Coco “Yami” Martin persisting all the way until May 2013 and October 2013, respectively.

Ergo, the safest time to assume the start of her extended period of abstinence would have to be around October, as well.

So, since October 2013, here are some of the mind-blowingly good things that, we humbly extrapolate, have happened since Kris Aquino most likely stopped having sex.

Sikat II-A, a solar car created by students from De La Salle University, cruised to an easy third place finish in Australia last October 15, but could it be possible that it wasn’t fueled entirely by solar power alone? Perhaps, Kris Aquino’s unstormable trenches of celibacy has proven itself to be a universal and all-inclusive fuel source? After all, Kris is an Atenean.

Manny Pacquiao suffered consecutive losses at the hands of Timothy Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez before finally scoring a victory over American fighter, Brandon Rios last November.

His tax issues are unfortunate but Kris Aquino’s possible universe-altering powers due to avoiding the four-legged frolic could only go so far.
