We hope to see major work commenced before the end of Term 1. Amanda Ross The school was saddened to hear that Amanda Ross had died last week. Amanda had been battling cancer for the past few years. Our thoughts are with Adam, Mia, Melody, Austen and family. The school has a number of supports available to assist the family and those who might need reassurance at this time. Swimming Sports The school swimming sports was held today at the Yea swimming pool. We thank Lynne Helmond for referring the event and Rowan Treloar for organising the day. Our newly elect-ed House Captains were also crucial to the success of the day. Winners in A events are invited to swim at the Southern Ranges Swimming Competition in Seymour on Friday 3rd March. School Photo Day School Photo Day is scheduled for Monday 6th March. All students will have their photo taken for the school records. An information pack on how to purchase school photos will be will be provided to all students. Stu-dents who are buying photos should turn the pack with the correct payment on that day. The payment is re-ceived by the photographer. School Bus Services Several schools in the west of Murrindindi Shire have been placed on the Bushfire At-Risk Register these are: Flowerdale PS, Kinglake West PS, Middle Kinglake PS and Kinglake PS. The placement of these sites on the Bushfire At-Risk Register has a flow on impact on the West Murrindindi School Bus System. Bus routes passing through at-risk areas or routes operated by schools in at-risk locations will be closed on high-risk fire days. The impact on the school bus routes servicing Yea High School, Yea Primary School and the Sacred Heart Primary School will be as follows: On a Code Red Day NO school buses will run. On days other than Code Red school buses will not run if it is likely the route passes into, or through, a high risk area due to a going fire. The complete route will be cancelled. Parking, student drop off and pick up Parents are asked not to enter the bus circle to park or pick up at the end of the school day. Student drop off and pick up should be via the front of the school in Racecourse Rd or adjacent to the stadium in Lawrence Rd.

YEAR 9 Year 9 Community Connections students taking part in the Egg Hat Team Work Challenge. Students had twenty minutes to design a hat using minimal supplies that would safely carry an egg in a running race. As well as the fastest design, students were also awarded for having the tallest and most creative hat. Students reflected on their teams efforts and compiled a list of what makes good team work at the end. Students demonstrated excellent cooperation, team work and creativity and only one egg was broken! The purpose of the activity was to prepare students for their upcoming Community Service Projects. Stu-dents have now formed groups and submitted plans to school council.

RED CROSS CALLING 2017 All Year 9 students will also be taking part in Red Cross Calling months this year. Students will be door knocking around the Yea community on Friday the 10th of March between the hours of 1:00pm - 3:00pm.

SCIENCE WEEKS 1-3 2017

We have had a very busy and productive start in the

science labs during February. Year 7 students have

been studying safety in the science labs and learning

how to use bunsen burners to heat solutions. Year 8

students are studying the states of matter. Year 9 stu-

dents have been familiarising themselves with meas-

uring biotic and abiotic factors and Unit 1 and 3 biolo-

gy students have already done a number of practical

exercises using microscopes, agar, dialysis tubing

and three dimensional amino acid kits. Students are

to be congratulated on their excellent behaviour in the

science labs.
