With each pint we pull, we spark a fresh conversation. and right now, the story on everyone’s lips – to say nothing of their palates – is the second anniversary of our signature pint, nicholson’s Pale ale. We wanted a beer that would get people talking – a year-round cask ale for a nation that tells its story best over a pint. so in may 2012 we teamed up with st austell brewery to put a sure-fire conversation starter into every nicholson’s pub. Crafted by world-renowned master brewer roger ryman, nicholson’s Pale ale is a classic cask-conditioned english pale ale (4% abv). How do we get such good beer into bottle or cask? When you’ve been pulling pints for as long as we have, you learn a thing or two about food and drink. you get to know what guests like and which wines and foods go well together. more than anything, you know how to maintain a great pub atmosphere.

a lot’s changed since we pulled that first pint in 1873 (you don’t get much change from a shilling these days), but some things stay the same: our friendly welcome, the lively chatter in the bar, and the brass, timber and stained glass of our buildings.
