This exercise is designed to provide participants an opportunity to get better acquainted with each other.

Goal

This session was designed to increase youth development professionals’ ability to positively impact members by ensuring quality management and leadership in an important part of a Club experience: The gamesroom.

By the end of this lesson you will be able to generate a plan that reflects your ability to effectively manage and lead a quality social recreation gamesroom program that deepens the impact on a member’s character, confidence and ability to relate well to others.

What is Social Recreation?

Social Recreation is comprised of program and activities that help Club members experience social success. Through Social Recreation programs, youth are able to develop and sustain positive relationships with others while having fun.

Social Recreation Program




Drop-in Activities

Unstructured and informal and are readily available to members when they enter the Club.




Low-Organized Games

Activities that can be completed in a short period of time with minimal equipment and supervision and easy rules and set-up.




On-the-Spot Fun

Activities that can be done spontaneously. They require few or no rules. There is little or no preparation needed.




Structured Activities

Organized and generally for a small group of members.




Special Events

Differ from other social recreation activities because they are highly visible, involve lots of people and are usually not repeated for a long time.




This exercise is designed to provide participants an opportunity to experience a different type of tournament. It also affords them a chance to recognize that tournaments are part of the Structured Activities component of a Quality Social Recreation Program.
