BIOGRAPHIE Yayoi Kusama is a Japanese artist and writer born in

1929.

She has worked in a wide variety of media, including painting, collage, scat sculpture, performance art, and environmental installations.

Her works are marked by the influence of the Japanese traditional painting and her obsessive thoughts.

The trademark of her work is the “infinity networks”: great surfaces covered by spots.

BIOGRAPHIE In 1957 she went to live in the United States, where

she became leader in the movement avant-garde.

Feminism, minimalism, surrealism, Art Brut, pop and abstract expressionism are characteristics of her work. She describes herself like an obsessive artist.

Tired mentally, she returned to Japan in 1973, where she got into a psychiatric hospital voluntarily.

Kusama is currently the most expensive living female artist.
