Week 7 Tutorial Activity Construction Site Visit During the week 7 tutorial, we went on a site visit to two different construction sites in Melbourne’s metropolitan region. Site #1 The first site was in its early stage of development; initial extraction of the land was being conducted with machinery digging a large whole for two underground levels of the structure. Safety gear such as high visibility vests, steelcapped boots and hard hats were required as construction was taking place at the tie of our visit. Removal of soil was taking place while we were on site. The depth shown in image 1 and 2 is only reflects the halfway mark in totally extraction as the structure will house two basement levels. The soil is also considered good to excavate. Starter bars drilled into the side Tapping beam joining structural elements Image 1: Students at the first site in appropriate gear Image 2 and 3: Measurement of the amount of land that had been dug up

Safety  gear  such  as  high  visibility  vests,  steel-‐capped  boots  and  hard  hats  were  required  as  construction  was  taking  place  at  the  tie  of  our  visit.

Image  4  shows  the  machine  used  for  excavation.  Image  5  shows  the  buildings  surrounding  the  site.  We  were  also  given  the  opportunity  to  talk  to  the  site  manager  who  showed  us  the  working  drawings  and  floor  plans  of  the  building.  The  north  side  is  said  to  be  5  stores  whilst  the  south  side  6  stories  in  order  to  align  with  the  surrounding  buildings.
