SELECT WORKfrom Man Caves

The DIY television show geared towards men. All designs and FF&E selections were developed through SketchUp then discussed with the contractors on how they will be incorporated in the design. The internship required to be on set and assist on building and managing certain projects within the design.

ROADHOUSE CAVEBurlington, NJ

The client:A hardworking father was given this special Man Cave by his daughter for Father’s Day. This space will give him and his family a place to jam out and hang out. His interest were music, guitar collection, and being out on the road.

The design:We focused on giving him a space for both his kids and his adult friends to hang out in. Some of the featured giveaways included a stage with a mic and guitar stand, a gallery wall of his guitar collection, a shuffleboard table and a custom built guitar-shaped bar.

The graphic images below were made for the family to serve as their very own band posters. The names on the posters were names of the family members. After printing the posters we used a decoupage affect, as shown on the image above, to be hung on the wall.

CUBAN CAVEElizabeth, NJ

The client:This Cuban family have been missing their culture. They received this cave to bring them some touches of home. The couple has a large family so they needed a space to invite their relatives and enjoy the Cuban atmosphere with cigars, bongo drums and vibrant colors.

The design:Driven by the architectural beauty of Cuba, we made sure to include the colors and texture of Cuban buildings with a touch of modern. The rustic decorative pieces really brought the design together.

We added a large mural of the traditional Cuban poster from the 20th century. As a bonus for the father we incorporated a humidifier to store his cigars, and used vintage cigar boxes for a decorative wall fixture. The Spanish tiles on the wall was made more masculine with an old bumper from the 1920th.

ABC STUDIODRESSING ROOMNew York, NY

The client:The Kelly & Michael Show was desperate to redesign the dressing room for Co-host Michael Strahan. He wanted a space that made him feel at ease before coming on the show.

The design:With out being able to use any football related pieces we managed to gear the design towards a meditative space. Focusing on calmer tones in the grey family, with pops of orange.

This had a more contemporary approach than the usual Man Caves. To make the space more “man cave approved” we provided Strahan with surround sound, a Smart TV and a hidden mirror TV. The furniture pieces and accessories were chosen to give a residential feeling, along with the richness of the wood flooring. The design could not be completed with out some modern appliances like the sink and under counter fridge, as well as his new old fashioned shaving kit.

HAND DRAFTINGLive/work Space

The first project given at Pratt Institute introduced us to hand drafting with ink on mylar. The project was to design a live/work space for an artist. The drawings included studies, precedent analysis and the final plans and elevations.

COMMERCIAL DESIGNOffice Space design for the Taschen Publishing Company in the Pepsi Co. Building, New York. The columns of the building are the main elements of the design, because of their dominant appearance in the space. The design of the shifting columns was driven from the word array, to represent the large number of subjects in their books.

STAIR DESIGN:The “array” concept is expressed in the stairs by adding a shifted path to the second level. It is designed to alter the traffic of employees by providing them with a route the goes directly to the kitchen area or straight to the executive offices.

EDUCATIONAL Waldorf Lower School of New YorkAs a thesis project, this design had a year long process of research and documentation. I performed many evaluation of the students’ activities as well as the faculty. There were many site visits to get accurate measurements in order to draw the plans of the six story building. The design was created using Rhino to allow the strategic curvilinear gestures to be designed.

DESIGN CONCEPTThe design was driven from the gestures and strategic movements of Rudolf Steiner’s Eurythmy dances. Eurythmy is thought at every Wardolf school from kindergarten to high school. The movements allow the students to incorporate teamwork and experience a peace within the rhythm to allow for more creativity and concen-tration through out the day.
