A global action plan agreed by all the worlds countries and all the worlds leading development institutions in 2000. To be achieved by 2015.

End poverty and hunger•Reduce by half the proportion of people living on less than a dollar a day•Achieve full employment for all.•Reduce by half the proportion of people who suffer from hunger

Universal education•Ensure that all boys and girls complete a full course of primary schooling

Gender equality•Eliminate gender disparity in primary and secondary education by 2015

Child health•Reduce by two thirds the mortality rate among children under five

Maternal health•Reduce by three quarters the maternal mortality ratio•Achieve, by 2015, universal access to reproductive health

Combat HIV/AIDS•Halt and begin to reverse the spread of HIV/AIDS•Achieve, by 2010, universal access to treatment for HIV/AIDS for all those who need it •Halt and begin to reverse the incidence of malaria and other major diseases

Environmental sustainability•Integrate the principles of sustainable development into country policies and programmes.•Reduce biodiversity loss.•Reduce by half the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation•Achieve significant improvement in lives of at least 100 million slum dwellers, by 2020

Global partnership•Develop further an open, rule-based, predictable, non-discriminatory trading and financial system •Address the special needs of the least developed countries•Address the special needs of landlocked developing countries and small island developing States •Deal comprehensively with the debt problems of developing countries

These pictures represent the 8 Millennium Development goals which are:

•To eliminate poverty and hunger (represented by the starving child).

• To achieve primary level education for everyone (represented by the children with red uniforms sitting in class).

• To promote gender equality and empower women ( represented by two women building an object and also the people sitting in an office).

• To reduce infant mortality rates (represented by the baby sleeping.)

• To improve maternal health (represented by the sign).

• To stop and reverse the spread of HIV, AIDS, Malaria and other various diseases (represented by the child having a vaccination).

• To protect forests, rainforests and green area’s sustainability (represented by the sustainability logo) .

• And last but not least to spread International peace, trade, support and state co-operation with the private sector (represented by the children holding hands).
