Tour & Picnic at the Earl Baum Center for the Blind Wednesday, May 1

The Earle Baum Center for the Blind is a nonprofit regional community center in Santa Rosa, serving people with sight loss. The Earl Baum Center (EBC) opened in 1999, and focuses instruction in three main areas: Independent Living Skills, Orientation and Mobility, and Assistive Technology Services. The Independent Living Skills class provides adaptive skills for cooking, hygiene, shopping, financial management, cleaning, and clothing color matching. Orientation and Mobility provides physical and communications skills required for travelling independently, safely and confidently through one’s environment. And the Assistive Technology Services evaluate a person’s skills and needs, and provides individualized recommendations and training, including the use of adaptive computer hardware and software that enable full participation in today’s world of electronic communication and information storage and retrieval.

Tour: Meet Friendship Circle at the Earl Baum Center (4539 Occidental Road, Santa Rosa) for a tour at 11:00 am. Transportation is on your own, or contact Sandy to arrange a carpool at 528-1182 or [email protected]. We will have the opportunity to receive a visual understanding of what takes place at the facility and how the EBC informs and supports people with sight loss.

Lunch: After the tour, we will enjoy a delicious boxed lunch catered by Panera Bread. All boxes will have a chocolate chip cookie and a bag of chips. Please choose one of the following options:

Mediterranean Vegetarian Sandwich• lettuce, tomato, cucumber, onion, sweet peppers with cilantro hummus on the side.Turkey Sandwich• lettuce, tomato, onion on country bread mayo and mustard on the side.Asian Chicken Salad• romaine lettuce with cilantro, wonton strips, sesame seeds and almonds, with chicken and Asian dressing on the side.

Cost: FC members $20 per person; non-members $25 per person (includes tour and lunch).

Luncheon at Ravenous Café & The Imaginary Invalid Sunday, April 28

Meet Friendship Circle in Healdsburg for a delicious luncheon at Ravenous Café (177 North Street, Healdsburg) at 11:30 am. This charming restaurant features seasonally inspired Californian and Mediterranean cuisine and uses only premium ingredients. Your lunch includes iced tea, lemonade, coffee or hot tea, and flour less chocolate cake for dessert. Please select one of the lunch options below:

Soup & Salad • cannellini bean and garden vegetable soup served with house salad on the side.Half Portabello Sandwich • with roasted peppers, tapenade, and fontina cheese, served with cole slaw.6.5 oz Burger • on a homemade bun with mustard, mayo, lettuce, tomato, and roasted onion with oven-baked fries.Penne Pasta • with grilled chicken breast, spinach, fennel, mushrooms, tomato and basil.

Following lunch, we’ll walk across the street for a comedy production at The Raven Theater, the Imaginary Invalid. The wealthy Aragan is a housebound hypochondriac with every disease in the book. Lurking around are quacks only too happy to (mis)treat him. Family troubles, including a money-grubbing wife and two headstrong daughters, add to Aragan’s miseries. Moliere’s 17th Century comedy gets an injection of 1960’s French pop culture. Warning: Excessive laughter may be hazardous to your health!

Cost: FC members $25 per person; non-members $30 per person.

Theater Information: The matinee will be at the Raven Theater in Healdsburg from 2:00-4:00 pm. Friendship Circle will have your ticket on the day of the show and a section of seats will be reserved for our group in the theater.

Transportation: On your own, or contact Sandy to arrange a carpool at 528-1182 or [email protected].

Friendship Circle is a program of the Jewish Community Center, Sonoma County which is a 501(c) 3 non-profit corporation, a beneficiary of the Jewish Community Federation of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin and Sonoma Counties.

The mission of the Jewish Community Federation is to foster and enhance Jewish life here at home, in Israel, and around the world by caring for the vulnerable, providing Jewish education for our children, engaging our interfaith families, promoting peoplehood

and Israel and providing aid in times of crises. We are also grateful to be funded, in part by a grant from the Jewish Community Federation. Support from the Jewish Community

Federation is not enough. We depend on members of the Friendship Circle community for donations and support.
