Cross Catholic Outreach believes that true change comes from within. Their mission states that, “Physical change is not complete without sharing the Gospel. In order to break the cycle of poverty, we must first start with the heart. This refers to the active combination of word and deed, integral development. We must share the hope and good news of the Gospel alongside our social work in order to see the Holy Spirit’s transformative power. Neither side of our min-istry is complete without the other. We must address both to see a true transformation and to end the plague of extreme poverty.”

Cross Catholic Outreach serves the poorest of the poor internationally by channeling aid through dioceses, parishes, and Catholic missionaries, cost-effectively helping the poor break the cycle of poverty while advancing Catholic evangelization. They serve the needy through-out the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

Projects include relief for earthquake, flood and tsunami victims, care and education for or-phans and other vulnerable children, housing for the homeless, medicines and health care of the indigent, food for families suffering extreme malnutrition, and clean water for communi-ties that have none, as well as micro-enterprise programs and other long-term development ef-forts to break the cycle of poverty.

This weekend we welcome Father Carlos Chavez of Cross Catholic Outreach who is speaking at all the Masses on behalf of the poor in developing countries. Father Chavez is a native New Mexican born in Socorro. He was ordained to the priesthood at St. Francis Cathedral, Santé Fe, New Mexico July 25, 1984. SOCIAL MINISTRIES

THE DELORES PROJECT

Jesus calls us to be like him, especially when it comes to service and I am proud to be part of a parish that is committed to meeting the needs of its community! Here at St. Pius the X Parish, we have many op-portunities to serve.

A vital ministry to become involved in is, The Delores Project. The Delores Pro-ject provides safe, comfortable shelter, per-sonalized services and meals for homeless women. The meals that the shelter provides come solely from donations. Basically this means that if the food is not donated the women don't eat! Fortunately, because of the generous donations from our parishion-ers, the Delores Project has been able to depend on St. Pius, to provide a meal for more than 75 homeless women, every 3rd Thursday of the month, September - May, for more than a decade! Thank You, to all of our past and present supporters! and to those of you that want to make a positive contribution to our community please volunteer. The need is great and your donations go directly to the homeless. We need people to prepare food and bring it to the church office and drivers to deliver the meal to the Delores Project.

9 HEALTH FAIR - OCT 1st

St Pius X is hosting the 9 Health Fair on Saturday Oct 1. We are in need of non-medical volunteers and Spanish interpreters. If you can volunteer on Oct 1 from 7:00 am to 12:00 pm please call Cin-dy Pfluger 720-363-0226 or Adela Cota-Gomez 720-261-1787 or you can sign up at 9HealthFair.org.

THE PATH TO THE NEW EVANGELIZATION

“We urge those Catholic officials who choose to depart from Church teaching on the inviolability of human life in their public life to consider the consequences for their own spiritual wellbeing, as well as the scandal they risk by leading others into serious sin. We call on them to reflect on the grave contradiction of assuming public roles and presenting them-selves as credible Catholics when their actions on fundamental issues of human life are not in agreement with Church teaching. No public offi-cial, especially one claiming to be a faithful and serious Catholic, can responsibly advocate for or actively support direct attacks on innocent human life… However, no appeal to policy, procedure, majority will or pluralism ever excuses a public official from defending life to the great-est extent possible. As is true of leaders in all walks of life, no political leader can evade accountability for his or her exercise of power (Evangelium Vitae, 73-4). Those who justify their inaction on the grounds that abortion is the law of the land need to recognize that there is a higher law, the law of God. No human law can validly contradict the Commandment: "Thou shalt not kill."

SOUP KITCHEN OCTOBER 14th

Friday, October 14th is a Soup Kitchen Friday where our volunteers travel to downtown Denver

to serve the evening meal at the St. Francis Center (2323 Curtis St.). We still need new volunteers as we continue to be a few volunteers short of late! All are welcome. You could meet us at the 2323 Curtis St. location. For more information or directions call the Parish Office.

CELEBRATING THE FEAST OF ST. FRANCIS The Blessing of the Animals

This year's pet blessing by the Deacon’s will be held on October 2nd after the 9 & 11 a.m Masses in the parish parking lot.

FOOD SALE!!

St. Pius has limited space and we are in need of additional meeting rooms. We have been looking at a room divider as an addition to the church basement. The room divider would allow us to close off part of the basement and use the base-ment as two separate meeting rooms or open up the divider and use it as one large meeting room. If you wish to help raise money for this project, there will be a food sale on Sunday October 9th after all of the Masses. All the pro-ceeds from the food sale will be used to pay for the room divider. Please come enjoy some wonderful food and support this project! Thank you for your generosity.

ALTAR SERVER TRAINING

We are in need of additional altar serv-ers. Training for new altar servers will be held in the church.
