Overview XML Publisher is a template based publishing solution provided

by Oracle.

Its makes use of familiar word-processing capabilities andcombines it with Oracle E-business Suite data

Seperation of the presentation of the data from the data source

Plugs in with Microsoft Word to generate user friendlytemplates.

Can use all the formatting capabilities of Word with little or norestrictions

From 11.5.10 onwards XML Publisher is included by default inthe concurrent program processing. Earlier it was a manualstep.

Data and Templates The data should be in XML format.

Generated mostly out of Oracle Reports or using PLSQLUTL_FILE package.

Oracle provides Data Template as an alternative to generateXML data.

The XML data should be well-formed with all the open tagsclosed.

A Template file can be generated in MS Word or Adobe Acrobat.Mostly MS word since the plug in is easier.

Template file has XML tags embedded within the document

XML Publisher overlays data in XML data file with the templatefile to generate nice PDF outputs.

Data Source: Oracle 6i Report Oracle 6i reports in Oracle E-business suite generate character

output.

In the Reports concurrent program setup, change the outputtype from Text to XML

Data Definition Login as XML Publisher Administrator responsibility

Click Data Definition and then New button

Enter a data definition name. Enter the SHORTNAME as the SHORTNAME of the concurrent

program generating XML output.

Upload a sample XML file for previewing output.

Save the record

Template Definition While logged in as XML Publisher Administrator, click TemplateDefinition

Enter a unique template name.

Choose the data definition you have just created in the earlierstep

Check RTF or PDF template flag as appropriate

Choose the locale, language and upload the appropriatetemplate file (Word or PDF) to the template definitions

If a sample XML file was uploaded in data definition, clickpreview button to view sample output file.

Run the concurrent program and click view output to view thePDF output.

How to Create Word Template You have to install XML Publisher Desktop Edition on your local

system to create MS Word Template

Two Options available: RTF method or Form Field method

In RTF method, the XML placeholders are in line within the RTFdocument.

In Form Field method, you create a text form field and populateadditional data section in form field with XML placeholder value.
