XJ-L Busway is well known forits outstanding performance,providing convenient, cost-effective power distribution forhigh-tech environments,computer centers, laboratories,and other applicationsrequiring consistent, qualitypower distribution. Key XJ-Ldesign features includeoptional isolated ground andampere ratings of 100A and200A. For maximumavailability, XJ-L Busway ismaintained as a stock productto meet your quick shiprequirements.

As a result, XJ-L Busway is an intelligentchoice for contractors and usersconcerned with designing superiorelectrical distribution systems. Thecompact design is ideal for working areasin computer manufacturing, laboratoryor test facilities, schools, hospitals, andmachine shops.

With XJ-L Busway, you get an exclusive,optional isolated ground design thatensures clean power. Unlike bonded

ground designs that may convey surgesfrom one electrical device to another, theXJ-L optional isolated ground system iswell suited for sensitive high-techcomputer intensive environments. And,the ground bar is the same size as thephase bars, with the same ampere rating.Installation is easy — joining one XJ-Lbusway section to another is as simple asmatching ends and snapping themtogether. First introduced in 1960 and having well over one million feet in service, XJ-L busway has a proven track record of trouble-free power distribution. The joints are easy to install andmaintenance free. The copper bus bars and steel housings are designed to provide years of dependable service.

FLEXIBILITY

XJ-L offers the flexibility of a 3 or 4 wire system, isolated or internal ground and 200% Neutral capacity where isolated ground is not required.Busway sections and additional plugs can be easily added to meet changingdemands. Each 10' section features twelve plug-in openings for easyaccessibility.

Different loads can be powered by a single multi-receptacle plug. These plugs can be configured to providespecific load switching and protection.Application specific hangers are available to accommodate installationrequirements.

COST

Overall, XJ-L offers a more cost effective power distribution system than the typical cable and conduitinstallation. Because XJ-L is lightweightand easy to handle, installation is lessexpensive, faster and cleaner. In addition, XJ-L busway can easily bereconfigured to accommodate changes in load requirements when needed.

EQUIPMENT PROTECTION Critical equipment is protected via fuse orcircuit breaker plugs. Due to theirproximity, the plugs provide a localizedmethod of protection and disconnection.

SPACE

Space in critical power / data centerfacilities is at a premium. XJ-L Buswayrequires less space than conventionalpower distribution methods such as cable and conduit.

Specification Information

XJ-L busway is available in 100A and 200A ratings making it the rightchoice for light industrial andcommercial applications where low initial startup and maintenance costs are prerequisites. XJ-L Busway isthe most logical choice for high tech,computer intensive environments,especially when isolated ground isrequired.

HOUSING

XJ-L busway features a totally enclosed,non-ventilated, 2-piece steel housing.The housing is covered with an electro-statically applied light gray ANSI 61polyester urethane powder paint. Thepaint is scratch resistant and has a 500hour salt spray rating.

CONDUCTORS

The conductors are fabricated from 98%conductivity copper. The bars are"spaced-in-air" and held securely in thehousing by the plug-in outlets and joints.

NEUTRAL

100% neutral is available as standard,200% neutral is offered as a customproduct.

GROUNDThe internal ground bus is 100% rated for 100A and 60% rated for 200A busway. Isolated ground is rated at 100% for both amperages.

PLATING

The bus bars are tin plated over theirentire length to ensure good electricalcontact at all joint and plug tap-offpoints. The plating also serves to protectthe bars from corrosion. Optional silverplating is available.

PLUG-IN BASE

XJ-L busway features multiple plug-in locations. The plastic, non-tracking outlets are located on 20"centers and support the bus barsproviding bracing during short-circuitconditions. The plug-in outlets are IP2xrated (finger-safe). Optional plug-in basecovers (XOC) are available separately orthey can be factory installed.

JOINT CONNECTION

Busway sections are connected via amaintenance-free, spring pressure joint.The busway ends are easily aligned andbus bar ends are held securely in placeby spring pressure clips located in thejoint insulator. The housings areconnected via external housing platesand captive screws.

BUS PLUGS

There are twelve plug-in outlets on each10' (3.048m) section, six openings on 5' (1.524m) sections and two outlets on 2' (.616m) sections. Bus plugs areavailable with amperages ranging from15A to 100A. Plugs feature circuitbreakers or fusible switch disconnects.

TESTING

Each piece of XJ-L busway is factorytested prior to shipment. A dielectric testis performed to ensure product integrity.XJ-L Busway is qualified to UL standardsand is manufactured and inspected inaccordance with ISO 9001 guidelines.

COMPATIBILITY

100A aluminum sections are no longeravailable. However, 100A coppersections are fully compatible with thealuminum busway.

Note: A ground in the diagram is available for all XJ-L busway systems. For systems so equipped, add suffixletter “G” to the catalog number. The neutral bar “N” is omitted on 3-Pole busway. The isolated ground (suffixletter IG) or second neutral bar is positioned above the A-Phase bus bar.

CROSS SECTION

Available in 10’ (3.048m), 5’ (1.524m), or2’ (.616m) standard lengths, XJ-L Buswayoffers layout flexibility to meet customrequirements. XJ-L offers twelve plug-inoutlets, six per side on 10’ sections. Forconvenience, the openings are located inalternate positions from side to side, andare all usable simultaneously.

XJ-L busway also features an exclusiverotating cover plate to facilitate inspectionof the joints. The light weight design ofthe busway and plugs makes theinstallation of XJ-L quick and trouble-free.

XQ SERIES(Cover Operable, 50A Max)

XQ Bus Plugs accept QP (plug-in) or BQ (bolt-on)circuit breakers. The plugs feature knockouts tofacilitate quick installation.

Bus plugs for the XJ-L are available from 15A to 100A, with molded case circuit breakers or Vacu-Breakdfusible switches. Bus plugs may beoperated with a pull-chain or hookstick from the floor.

Lightweight and portable, plugs areeasily moved from one location toanother. Captive hardware allows foreasy removal and re-installation. This is

especially important in high-tech areasrequiring frequent movement ofequipment. The XQ-R bus plug hasprovisions for BQ or QP breakers as inthe XQ, but it has added wiring spaceallowing for receptacle installation.Additional add on features, such asshunt trips, alarm switches, and auxiliarycontacts are also available for XEC andXLEC bus plugs.

XLVB SERIES (Floor Operable, 100A Max)

XLVB Fusible bus plugs utilize the Vacu-Breakswitching principle, which minimizes arcing,and reduces maintenance costs. The Vacu-Break bus plugs are quick-make and quick-break, cover interlocked, horsepower ratedand may be operated from the floor with apull-chain or hookstick.

XLEC SERIES (Floor Operable, 100A Max)

Plug-in cable tap boxes are non-fusibledevices used for end or center feed. The100A tap boxes can be attached at any plug-in opening. The 200A tap box

XH2 BUSWAY HANGER

XJ-L busway is supported through theuse of a two-piece, bolt togetherhanger design. One size fits all XJ-Lbusway systems. Two hangers arefurnished with each 10-foot straightsection, and can be used withcustomer supplied rods up to 3/8-inchin diameter. Hangers are adaptable forwall mounting or ceiling suspensionarrangements, either edge or flat.

Optional outlet covers are availablefor closing off the plug-in outletswhen desired.

END CLOSER

An End Closer is used to terminatebusway runs. To extend the run,simply remove the end closer andadd new sections as needed.
