Xicato Configuration Tool XCT-0101

November 2016

XIM Programming Tool: Form

•  Small, dedicated computer in an aluminum housing, with a custom PCB, running Xicato software on a Linux operating system –  5.1V power input –  4 USB ports for connection of keyboard, mouse, etc. –  Full HDMI port for connection of monitor –  RJ-45 connector for 10/100 Ethernet –  802.11n wireless LAN (Wifi) - disabled by default –  MicroSDHC card slot

•  16GB MicroSD card preloaded with XCT software •  Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) dongle •  Two (2) XIM wiring harnesses •  Power supply unit (PSU): Universal AC to 5.1V, 2.5A

XCT Features

•  Works for standard XIM and XIM Gen4, and other future products

•  Allows fixture manufacturer to set maximum XIM flux (50-100%) that cannot be changed in the field –  Multiple luminaires in the same family can use one XIM model (reduces XIM SKUs in inventory) –  Allows tuning of luminaire to accommodate smaller heat sinks or more challenging thermal

environments

•  Allows manufacturer to add 48 octets of their own data to the configuration data stored in XIM –  12 bytes for serial number –  36 bytes unconstrained text field, which can include company name, luminaire model, etc.

•  Allows manufacturer to set default values prior to installation

5

Non-User Modifiable Configuration

•  NOT user configurable – controllable only by OEM using XCT

•  Flux can be set between 50-100% of module maximum

•  Serial number can be entered manually, or incremented either from zero or from a preset value (e.g. date+number)

•  Free Use text field allows up to 36 characters – anything you like, e.g.: –  Jim Brown Lighting, Superlight LED210 –  Jim Brown. Support: +1-555-123-4567

6

User-modifiable Pre-Configuration

•  Convenience feature: User modifiable during or after installation

•  Presets for –  Flux range –  Dimming curve type –  Power-on behavior –  1-10V and DALI settings

7

Additional Features

•  Configuration files can be saved (exported) and loaded later (imported) for repeated use

•  Separate Setup and Production modes with independent passwords –  Setup done e.g. by Engineering –  Production mode for assembly line workers

•  XCT checks your work –  Verifies that settings are valid for the

connected module –  Verifies that the settings are properly loaded

into the module

Xicato Configuration Tool – Who needs it?

SKU reduction: one XIM / many products Inventory reduction

Design flexibility Thermal optimization: tune module flux to heat sink Tune flux to meet thermal challenges in installation

Electronic Branding! -  Company name -  Model name & number

“About this device” information -  Company name and model -  Product serial number -  Date of manufacture? -  Installation date? -  Project name? -  Installer ID?

Example Applications

•  For Operations: SKU and Inventory Reduction –  XIM 2000LM can address 1000LM, 1500LM, and 2000LM fixtures –  XIM 4000LM can be used in 2500LM, 3000LM and 4000LM fixtures –  Inventory is shared between products, simplifying forecasting and stocking

•  For Engineering: Thermal Optimization –  Step 1: use XIM’s integrated temperature data reporting to determine maximum sustainable output

for your fixture mechanical design –  Step 2: use XCT to set maximum flux to prevent overheating in the field

•  For Marketing: Electronic Branding –  Add your company name, product brand and model to every XIM’s configuration data reporting

•  For Customer Support: Tracking and Self-help –  Company name, model, and serial number facilitate support –  Can also add contact info (phone, email, URL)
