X. Congress SAFEX INTERNATIONAL, May 16-19, 1990, Vienna/ Austria (Report)

SAFEX INTERNATIONAL, a non-profit organization from producers of explosives and pyrotechnics, was founded in 1954. The aim of SAFEX is the exchange of experience in the explosivcs industries. The information on accidents and incidents will lead to a better understanding, and can give help for the members to avoid similar events by other technologies.

Right now SAFEX INTERNATIONAL has 78 members in 36 countries from all over the world. The organization is strictly non-political; all informations are for SAFEX-members only. Every member is obliged to notify the secretary of any accident or incident within its plant. The secretariate then sends out these informations to all members; any further clarification can be requested from the secretary, who will in turn contact the member concerned.

Every third yeara Congress is organized for the presentation of papers on common themes by the members. Admission is for SAFEX-members only.

The Congress 1990 was held in Vienna. The event was joined by 179 delegates and ladies from 54 companies in 25 countries. This year’s themes were: A: SAFETY PROGRAMMES, REGULATIONS, AND INTERNAL CONTROL (5 lectures) B: ACCIDENTS AND DJCIDENTS (6 lectures) C: PROBLEMS IN NITRATION AND HANDLING OF SPENT ACID (5 lectures) D: FUSES AND INITIATING DEVICES (5 lectures) After every congress the proceedings will be printed and distributed to the members only.

Beside of the lectures there always is enough time to find contact to the other delegates. They meet at the congress, and have not to be visited in their countries. Small talk at the different social events completes the informations and personal understanding. So the Congress 1990 also was a success as the others before.
