Benefits
The BIW TRI-LOK Packer Feedthru system is the ideal solution for electricsubmersible pump (ESP) installations which include a packer, and wherethere is minimal space available, and where standard packer penetratorscannot be used. This Packer Feedthru system can be used in 7-inch casingwith 3 1/2-inch tubing. It can also be used in casing sizes as small as 5 1/2-inches with 2 3/8-inch tubing.
All system components are supplied pre-assembled and are fully factorytested. This system requires splicing only above and below the packer. Nospecial assembly training is required for technicians.
TRI-LOK packer feedthrus consist of two cable Break-out assemblies, onelocated above the packer, and the other, below the packer. Within the upperBreak-out, a cable, round or flat, is connected to individual power conduc-tors. These are sealed in 3/8-inch Duplex steel tubing. The tube-encasedconductors are fed through the packer. Below the packer, the conductorsare engaged with identical conductors coming from the lower Break-out,using sealed conductor Splice Tubes.
Small profile. Permits the use of ESPs withpackers in wells with 7-inch and 5½-inch casingsizes.

Factory molded Break-outs are supplied com-pletely assembled and fully tested. Each Break-out conductor has a crimped pin contact thateasily engages with pre-insulated socket contactsinside a sealed Splice Tube. A Banding channelprevents banding from extending above break-outprofile. For deep set packer installations, thelower Break-out can be supplied factory moldedto the MLE.

TRI-LOK Packer Feedthru Systems are suitablefor Smaller Diameter Casings
TRI-LOK Packer Feedthru components have been designedfor reliable operation in wells with casing as small as 5½-inches. Upper and lower cableBreak-outs are only 3 inchesin width. Exterior surfaces arerounded for minimal interfer-ence with casing duringinstallation. The interiorsurface is also shaped to reduce the profile when attachedto tubing.
The diagram at leftshows the fit of thecable Break-outs wheninstalled in 7-inchcasing with 3½-inch production tubing.
The diagram to the rightillustrates the installation ofthe cable Break-outs in5½-inch casing with 2 3/8-inch production tubing. Inthis installation, a smalloffset is recommended.
TRI-LOK Packer Installation Steps
Conductors are suppliedwith Factory-crimped
Pin Contacts
Step 1If lower Break-out is not supplied molded to MLE, tempo-rarily position the lower Break-out below the packer anddetermine the location of the cable splice under the packer.Mark cables, remove the unit and make up the splice on thework bench.
Step 2Upper Break-out may be installed to power cable at anytime prior to installation in the packer to save rig time.
Position the upper Break-out tubes through the packer fromthe top. Use Splice Tubes to join the conductors below thepacker. Secure the upper Break-out conductors at the top ofthe Packer using Vespel seals. Band the upper Break-out tothe tubing.
Splice Tubes have integralsocket contacts
and Metal-to-metal Seals
Tubing may be flaredfor optimal
conductor spacing
