We are a nurturing and open church to all who enter into our Sanctuary.

We base our ministry on the Word of God and a caring spirit. Jesus

invites us to share our ministry to all that come into our church.

“To make Disciples of Jesus Christ for the

Transformation of the World”

Father’s Day is a celebration honoring fathers, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society. It complements Mother’s Day.

The first observance of "Father's Day" was held on July 5, 1908, in Fairmont, West Virginia, in the Williams Memorial Methodist Epis-copal Church South, now known as Central United Methodist Church. Grace Golden Clayton was mourning the loss of her father, when in December 1907, the Monongah Mining Disaster in nearby Monongah killed 361 men, 250 of them fathers, leaving around a thousand fatherless children. Clayton suggested that her pastor Robert Thomas Webb honor all those fathers. Thus, the first church service honoring fathers was in 1908. There has been a Father’s Day service at this church in Fairmont, West Virginia, every year since 1908.

Father’s Day was officially founded in Spokane, Washington at the YMCA in 1910 by Sonora Smart Dodd, who was born in Arkansas. Its first celebration was in the Spokane YMCA on June 19, 1910. Ms. Dodd’s father, the Civil War veteran William Jackson Smart, was a single parent who raised six children after his wife died. After hearing a sermon about Mother’s Day in 1909, Ms. Dodd told her pastor that fathers should have a similar holiday honoring them. She initially suggested June 5, her father’s birthday, but the pastors did not have enough time to prepare their sermons so the celebration was deferred to the third Sunday in June. A Bill was first introduced in Congress in 1913 to recognize a day honoring fathers. Unfortunately, it would take many years before Father’s Day was officially recognized. After several attempts throughout the years to pass a bill honoring Fathers, finally in 1966, Lyndon B. Johnson issued the first presidential proclamation honoring fathers, designating the third Sunday in June as Father’s Day. Six years later, the day was made a permanent national holiday when President Richard Nixon signed it into law in 1972.Printed with permission from United Methodist Communications.

Trinity will celebrate and recognize Father’s Day on June 18 during the 11 a.m. service.

GOAL - $7,500.00

Donations Now Being Accepted for a New Playground

A need has been identified for a new up-to-date playground to meet the needs of Trinity’s youth. Playing on a playground can aid in developing social, emotional and cognitive skills. Children are encouraged to use their imaginations and senses during play. They learn that obstacles can be overcome. They learn about motion and gravity. We want the best for our youth at Trinity.

The Trinity Trustee’s recently submitted to the Church Council an estimate for building a modern playground to include a basketball court at one end along with new safety compliant playground equipment, all of which will be surrounded by safety fencing. The trustee’s research estimates the cost for the playground to be around $20,000.

The council has already approved funds and along with pledges, $12,500 has already been designated towards this playground. This leaves a balance of approximately $7,500 still needed to build the playground.

The Council approved to seek donations from the membership of Trinity in order to raise the additional $7,500 needed for the playground. Beginning immediately. the Trinity membership is encouraged to make special donations towards the playground. Please make your checks out to Trinity UMC, with it designated for the “playground fund”.

Let’s Build It for Our Youth!!
