• One in five children diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. will not survive

• Childhood cancer isn’t just one disease…there are over a dozen major types and countless subtypes, each requiring specific research to develop the best treatment for every child

• In the last 20 years, only 2 new drugs have been specifically developed to treat children with cancer

• Less than 4% of the National Cancer Institute’s budget is directed to childhood cancer research

The five St. Baldrick’s Foundation 2013 Ambassadors represent the startling reality that one in five children diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. will lose their lives.

• Since 2000, more than 5,970 events have been held raising over $152 million for lifesaving childhood cancer research

Head-Shaving Facts

• St. Baldrick’s signature head-shaving events began as a challenge between 3 friends and have grown from 1 event in 2000 to more than 1,300 events in 2012

• Since 2000: More than 249,300 shaveesSM – including more than 25,370 women – have shaved their heads

• More than 56,240 shavees got bald in 2012

• Since 2007: More than 10,850 barbers have volunteered their services

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation exists to conquer childhood cancers!

Since the Foundation’s first grants as an independent charity in 2005, it has awarded more than $103 million to support the best in pediatric oncology research, making St. Baldrick’s the largest private funder of childhood cancer research grants.

At the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, we do one thing, and we do it well: We fund childhood cancer research

•St. Baldrick’s makes sure the greatest percentage of every dollar raised goes to childhood cancer research

•St. Baldrick’s funds only the very best childhood cancer research – more than $25 million in 2012

•St. Baldrick’s has two grant cycles each year: summer and fall

• Amount available and granted in July 2012: More than $23 million

• Amount available and granted in Nov. 2012: More than $2 million granted to local institutions across the U.S.

• Over the next 4 years, St. Baldrick’s and SU2C will commit a total of $14 million to form the SU2C-St. Baldrick’s Pediatric Cancer Dream Team

• The pairing of the two organizations brings together two of the worlds leading cancer research groups in a unified mission to accelerate the discoveries of new advances for treating pediatric cancer
