Hero MotoCorp founder Brijmohan Lal Munjal died

Hero MotoCorp founder and doyer of the Indian two wheeler industry, Brijmohan Lal Munjal

(92) died on 1 November, 2015 in New Delhi. He became the Chairman-emeritus of the group

earlier this year and remained on the board of the company as non-executive member. Hero

MotoCorp is the world’s largest two wheeler company. He was conferred with the ‘Padma

Bhushan’ in 2005.

India seventh most valued ‘Nation Brand’ in the world

India has moved up one position to become the world’s seventh most valued ‘Nation Brand’ with

an increase of 32% in it’s brand value to 2.1 billion dollars. The US remains on top with a

valuation of 19.7 billion dollars followed by China and Germany as per the annual report on the

world’s most valuable nation brands compiled by Brand Finance.

Sania-Hingis pair won the WTA Singapore Open Tennis Women’s Doubles Title

Swiss veteran Martina Hingis and India’s Sania Mirza on 1 November, 2015 won their ninth title

of this season at the WTA doubles finals held in Singapore. The defeated Spain’s eigth seeds

Garbine Muguruza and Carla Suarez Navarro with 6-0, 6-3. This is the ninth title for Sania-

Hingis pair in this season.

World’s fastest cruise missile ‘BrahMos’ successfully test fired from INS Kochi

The supersonic cruise missile BrahMos with a strike range of over 290 Km, was on 1 November

test fired successfully from the Navy’s newest stealth destroyer, INS Kochi and hit it’s target

‘Allepy’, a decommissioned ship in the Arabian Sea. After two trials from INS Kolkata, test

firing from INS KOchi has validated the newly commissioned ship’s system.

Fast patrol vessel ICGS Arinjay commissions in Kochi

The fast patrol vessel (FPV) of Aadesh-Class of Indian Coast Guard, ICGS Arinjay was

commissioned in Kochi, Kerala. ICGS Arinjay is the 15th of the 20 vessels being constructed by

Kochi Ship Yard under the of Aadesh-Class . Anti-smuggling and anti-piracy activities and also

for search and rescue operation.

India, Indonesia ink pacts on energy, culture exchange

India has signed two keys Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) with Indonesia to strengthen

it ties with its maritime neighbour. MoUs signed are New and Renewable Energy sector: It

would serve the commitments both nations made to reduce carbon emissions by 2030 by 35

(India) and 29 (Indonesia) per cent respectively. Cultural Exchange programme for three years

from 2015 to 2018.

Russia, India sign military-technical cooperation agreement

The Russian and Indian defence ministers signed a military-technical cooperation agreement in

follow up to the India-Russia Intergovernmental Commission for Military-Technical

Cooperation. India signed to agree an S-400 Triumf air defence system contract with Moscow.

Russia is among India’s foremost weapons suppliers. Indian Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar

and Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu signed the agreement.

Nico Rosberg won the Mexican Grand Prix

Mercedes driver Nico Roseberg won the Mexican Grand Prix on 2 November, 2015 held at

Mexico. After 23 years, Formula One race held in Mexico. This is the fourth title of this season

for Roseberg and 12th of his career. In this race Lewis Hamilton is at second position and

Valtteri Bottas of Williams is at third position.

Suresh N Patel appointed as MD and CEO of Andhra Bank

Suresh N Patel on 2 November, 2015 has been appointed as Managing Director and Chief

Executive Officer of Andhra Bank. Prior to this appointment, he has worked as Executive

Director of Oriental Bank of Commerce. This is the first time that a person from North India is

appointed as MD of Andhra Bank.

11th International Food Data Conference held in Hyderabad

The 11th International Food Data Conference has been held at National Institute of Nutrition in

Hyderabad on 3 November, 2015. The conference has been attended by 350 delegates from 51

countries. It was the first time to conduct this conference in India. The conference has been

jointly organised by the International Network of Food Databases (Infoods), Food and

Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and National Institute of Nutrition (NIN). The NIN will come

out with revised ‘nutritive values of Indian foods’ in December.

Manpreet Vohra appointed India’s new envoy to Afghanistan

Senior diplomat Manpreet Vohra has been appointed as India’s Ambassador to Afghanistan,

succeeding Amar Sinha. Vohra, a 1988-batch Indian Foreign Service officer, is currently serving

as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs. Vohra had served in the Indian High

Commission in Pakistan as the Deputy High Commissioner. He had also served as India’s

Ambassador to Peru.

IPL COO Sundar Raman resigned

The Indian Premier League’s Chief Operating Officer (COO), Sundar Raman resigned from his

position on 3 November, 2015. The BCCI accepted his resignation. Employed as Managing

Director of Mindshare, Raman was brought to the IPL in 2008 by Lalit Modi. Raman worked

nearly 8 years for IPL.

Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik announced retirement for Test cricket

Former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik announced his retirement from Test cricket on 3

November, 2015. He played 35 tests, scoring 1,898 runs with three centuries and eight half

centuries. In bowling he has taken 29 wickets.

Tropical Cyclone Chapala hits Yemen

A rare tropical Cyclone Chapala hits Yemen triggering heavy flooding and causing damage in

coastal region of the country. The cyclone made landfall in the south eastern provinces of Yemen

in Arabian Sea bringing winds of speed more than 100 kms per hour. It is the second-strongest

cyclone on record over the Arabian Sea, only after Cylone Gonu (2007).

Justice T S Thakur will be next Chief Justice of India

Justice T S Thakur (63) will be next Chief Justice of India. His name has been recommended by

current CJI Justice Dattu. Current CJI Justice Dattu will retire on December 2, 2015. Presently,

Justice Thakur is the senior most judge of the Supreme Court. He would be the 43rd CJI.

Emergency declared in Maldives

President of Maldives Abdulla Yameen has declared state of emergency for 30 days on grounds

of threat to national security. The declaration with effect to emergency has been made on

November 4, 2015 as per article 253 of the constitution of Maldives. The constitution of

Maldives gives president powers to declare emergency and suspend certain rights of the citizens.

The emergency has been announced at a time when the country is facing tensions after an

explosion aboard President Yameen’s speed boat on 28 September. On October 24th, Maldivian

government has accused the Vice President Ahmed Adeeb for the boat blast and ordered for his

arrest.

Twitter launches Make In India emoji

The Indian government on 4 November, 2015 became the first non-US based brand to have a

twitter emoji.. #MakeInIndia – which aims to promote the country as a global manufacturing

hub. An emoji of a black lion on an orange background will now appear next to the

#MakeInIndia hashtag in any tweet world wide.

PM Narendra Modi ranks 9th in 2015 Forbes’ World’s Most Powerful Person

The Forbes list of the World’s Most Powerful People 2015 was released on 4 November 2015.

The list provided the annual ranking of the World’s 73 Most Powerful People. India’s Prime

Minister Narendra Modi was ranked as the world’s ninth most powerful person. In 2014, Modi

was placed at 14th position. The list was topped by Russian President Vladimir Putin for the

third year in a row. Putin is followed by German Chancellor Angela Merkel (rank 2), President

Mysuru Railway Station became the first blind-friendly Railway Station in India

Mysuru Railway Station (Karnataka, India) became the first blind-friendly Railway Station in

India. The visually impaired – friendly facilities at Mysuru Railway Station has been inaugurated

by Mysuru’s Member of Parliament Pratap Simha. Tactile maps of the railway station and train

schedules in Braille were unveiled on the occasion of inauguration. The authorities have also put

up 400 metal signages in Braille along the railings of the staircases leading to various platforms.

Anuprayaas, a Non – Governmental Organisation assisted the railways in making Mysuru

railway station blind-friendly.

APJ Abdul Kalam’s Last Book ‘Advantage India-From Challenge to Opportunity’

Launched

Former President APJ Abdul Kalam’s last book ‘Advantage India-From Challenge to

Opportunity’ about how can new initiatives like ‘Make in India’, ‘Swachh Bharat’ can be used to

unleash country’s vast potential, was launched on 3 November at the Indian Institute of

Management-Ahmedabad (IIMA) in Ahmedabad. The book has been co-authored by IIMA

alumnus Srijan Pal Singh, who along with IIMA director Prof Ashish Nanda were present on the

occasion.

T-Hub inaugurated in IIIT-Hyderabad

Governor of AP and Telangana ESL Narasimhan and Tata Sons Chairman Emeritus Ratan Tata

on 5 November 2015 inaugurated the first phase of Technology Hub (T-Hub). T-Hub is a

technology incubation centre and is located at the International Institute for Information

Technology (IIIT-Hyderabad) in Gachibowli on the outskirts of Hyderabad. It is the country’s

largest such facility for start-ups and entrepreneurship.

Empowered Committee to approve schemes under Nirbhaya Fund

The Union Government on 4 November 2015 constituted an Empowered Committee to approve

schemes proposed under the Nirbhaya Fund. The Secretary of the Women and Child

Development Ministry will be the chairperson of the committee. The Committee comprises

officials from various ministries, including Women and Child Development, Home Affairs, Road

Transport and Railways. The Empowered Committee of Officers will take decision on the

President Pranab Mukherjee launched research project Imprint India

President Pranab Mukherjee on 5 November 2015 launched Imprint India, a joint initiatives of

country’s top educational institutions , aimed at developing a roadmap for research to solve

major engineering and technology challenges. Imprint India is a 1000 crore rupees project.

PM Narendra Modi launched three gold related schemes

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 5 November 2015 launched three gold related schemes. The

schemes are – Gold Monetization Scheme, Sovereign Gold Bond Scheme and Indian Gold

Coins. The three schemes were announced by the Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in his

2015-16 budget. The primary purpose of the schemes is to reduce dependence on imported gold,

recycle the unutilized gold in the country and most importantly, streamline the gold business in

the country. At present, India is the largest consumer of gold in the world.

Indian star shooter Heena Sidhu won the gold medal in the Asian Shooting Championship held

Union Government decided to impose 0.5% Swachh Bharat Cess on all services

Union Ministry of Finance on 6 November 2015 decided to impose 0.5 percent Swachh Bharat

Cess (SBC) on all taxable services. It will be levied in addition to the 14 percent service tax that

is in force now. The SBC will come into force on 15 November 2015. Its proceeds will be

exclusively used to support Swachh Bharat initiative.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on 5 November 2015 launched the Rajasthan Agro-

Processing and Agri-Marketing Promotion Policy 2015.The policy aims to promote agro-

processing and to reduce post harvest losses at the farm gate thus ensuring maximum prices of

farmer’s agri produce. The Agriculture Department of Rajasthan Government will be the nodal

department for the policy and Rajasthan State Agricultural marketing Board will act as nodal

agency for the policy.

Samia Suluhu sworn in as first female Vice President of Tanzania

Samia Hassan Suluhu on 5 November 2015 was sworn in as first female Vice President of

Tanzania. Suluhu started her career by working as a clerk in the Ministry of Planning and

Development. In 2000, Suluhu was elected as a special seat member to the Zanzibar House of

Representatives. In 2014, she was chosen as the Vice Chairperson of the Constituent Assembly.

Ravichandran Ashwin became fastest Indian to reach 150 test wickets

Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on 6 November 2015 became the fastest Indian to reach 150

wickets in the Indian test cricket history. He achieved this in the first innings of the first test

against South Africa in Mohali, Punjab. Ashwin also became the first bowler in over 100 years to

take 50 wickets after opening the bowling.

BrahMos supersonic cruise missile was successfully test-fired by Indian Army in Rajasthan

Indian Army on 7 November 2015 successfully test-fired the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile

at the Pokhran Test Range in Rajasthan. It was launched from an Autonomous Mobile Launcher

(AML). For BrahMos, it was the 50th test-flight. It is capable of carrying a conventional and

nuclear warhead of 300 kg. It can be launched from land, Sea, Sub-seas and air.

India-Russia Joint Military Exercise Indra-2015 held in Rajasthan

The seventh edition India-Russia Joint Military Exercise ‘Indra-2015’ has been held from 7-20

November 2015 in Bikaner district of Rajasthan. This edition of exercise focused on ‘Counter

Terrorism Operations in Desert Terrain under a United Nations Mandate’. This joint exercise

will engage in variety of joint missions including joint planning, Search and Rescue, Cordon and

Search operations, special arms skills and joint tactical drills. The bilateral exercise seeks to

further boost people to people as well as military to military ties between India and Russia.

Arundhati Bhattacharya, Chairperson of India’s largest bank SBI, remains the most powerful

woman in the Indian business sector in the list of Fortune India. ICICI Bank’s Chanda Kochhar

and Shikha Sharma of Axis Bank follow Bhattacharya at the second and third place. HPCL

Chairperson and Managing Director (MD) Nishi Vasudeva is at fourth position, while AZB &

Partners Co-Founder Zia Mody and Aruna Jayanthi Chief Executive of Capgemini India shared

the fifth rank.

Wasim Jaffer is the first cricketer to score 10000 runs in Ranji

Shashank Manohar as Chairman of International Cricket Council

Board of Control for Cricket in India president Shanshank Manohar will be the new Chairman of

International Cricket Council. He will replace former BCCI President N. Srinivasan who was

elected as the first chairman of the ICC in June 2014. Manohar will be in this post till June 2016.

Indian Army’s Strategic Forces Command (SFC) on 9 November 2015 successfully test-fired

surface-to-surface Agni-IV missile. The 4000-km range nuclear capable missile was test-fired

from Abdul Kalam (Wheeler) Island off the Odisha coast. It is 20 meters in length weighs 17

tonnes and carries a pay load of one tone. It was developed by Defence Research and

Development Organisation (DRDO). It is the fourth missile in the series of Agni missiles.

2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner Nigeria

Nigeria on 8 November 2015 won the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup. In the finals Nigeria

defeated Mali with 2-0 score. India will host the bi-annual championship in 2017. It is the third

championship for Nigeria.

India signs with Asian Development Bank for 273 million dollars for funding rural roads

Union government signed an agreement of 273 million dollars loan from the Asian Development

Bank (ADB) to improve rural roads in Assam, Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and West

Bengal. This is the last tranche of the 800 million dollars financing facility under the Rural

Connectivity Investment Programme. The loan will help in constructuring over 6,000 kilometers

of rural roads in five states.

RBI Governor appointed as Vice Chairman on BIS Board

Dr. Raghuram Rajan, Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, was appointed as the Vice-

Chairman of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). He joined the BIS Board of Directors

in December 2013. He will be in this post for three years.

Ministry of Defence launched Army Cloud, Data Centre & Digi-Locker for the Indian

Army

Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on 9 November 2015 launched Army Cloud,

Software Defined Data Centre and Digi-Locker facilities for the Indian Army at the Army

Headquarters in New Delhi. The three initiatives are aimed at catalysing automation and

digitization of the Indian Army and help in transforming it from a Platform Centric to a Network

Centric Force.

Scientists revealed that the Himalayas were born 47 million years ago

An international team of scientists who discovered the first oceanic microplate in the Indian

Ocean has found that Himalayas were born about 47 million years ago when India and Eurasia

initially smashed into each other. The team of Australian and US scientists believe the collision

occurred 47 million years ago when India and Eurasia initially smashed into each other. The new

research shows that 50 million years ago, India was travelling northwards at speeds of some 15

centimetres a year. Soon after it slammed into Eurasia crustal stresses along the mid-ocean ridge

between India and Antarctica intensified to breaking point. A sudden increase in crustal stress

causes the formation of the Himalayan Mountain Range to 47 million years ago.

GSAT-15 successfully launched from French Guiana

GSAT-15, India’s latest communications satellite, was launched successfully by the European

Ariane 5 VA-227 launch Vehicle on November 11, 2015. The 3164 kg GSAT-15 carries

communication transponders in Ku-band and a GPS Aided GEO Augmented Navigation

(GAGAN) payload operating in L1 and L5 bands.

Justice AP Shah appointed as the Ethics Officer (Ombudsman) at BCCI

The former Chief Justice of Delhi High Court Ajit Prakash Shah has been designated as the

ethics officer (ombudsman) at Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for 1 year tenure. He

will act as sole decision maker on all conflict of interest issues plaguing Indian cricket. He was

the Chairman of the 20th Law Commission of India

Pakistan veteran Younus Khan retired from ODI cricket

Pakistan veteran Younus Khan retired from one-day internationals after match with England held

on November 11th 2015. The match against England was the 265th and final match in the format

and will bring to an end a 15-year ODI careerof Younus. Younus, who made his debut against

Sri Lanka in February 2000, scored 7,240 runs from his 264 ODI matches, with seven centuries

and 48 half-centuries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visit to UK

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 12 November reached London for a three day visit to

UK. He was accorded a guard of honour by the 48 member F company Scots guard accompanied

by the regimental band of Irish guards. He met the UK Prime Minister David Cameron and held

talks with him. India and UK announced an enhanced defence and strategic partnership as well

as a civil nuclear agreement. A trade deals worth 9 billion pounds would be signed during

Modi’s visit. A brief stop to pay tributes at the Mahatma Gandhi statue in Parliament Square

followed by speech at the Houses of Parliament.

India & UK signed a Civil Nuclear Pact

India and UK on 12 November, 2015 signed a civil nuclear pact and decided to collaborate in the

field of defence and cyber security besides launching a railway rupee bond in UK. They also

announced deals worth 9 billion pounds (Rs. 90,000 Crores) during the visit of Indian Prime

Minister Narendra Modi to UK for three days.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella in top 50 global businessmen list of Fortune

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has been named among the top 50 global business leaders by

Fortune Magazine. Three Indians are placed in the list of Fortune. Mater Card’s CEO Ajay

Banga is ranked at fifth position, Cognizant’s CEO Fernandez D’Souza at 16th place and

Microsoft’s Nadella is ranked at the 47th place. Nike’s Mike Parker topped the list followed by

Facebook’s Mark Zukerberg at second place, Electronic Art’s CEO Andrew Wilson (3), Apple’s

Tim Cook (4) and Alphabet’s Larry Page at 11th position.

IISc Bengaluru at 99th position in top 100 world university rankings

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore ranks in the world’s top 100 universities for

engineering and technology. IISc made its entry at 99th spot in a list that remains dominated by

US institutions with Stanford, CalTech and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the

top three positions in the ‘Times Higher Education (THE) Ranking for Engineering &

Technology’.

Former RBI Deputy Governor Subir Gokarn was appointed as an Executive Director on the

board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He will present India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka

and Bhutan on the Washington-based IMF’s Executive Board. He replaces Mr Rakesh Mohan at

the IMF.

Centre relaxes Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) norms in 15 main sectors

The centre announced Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) reforms, easing norms across 15 sectors

including defence, banking, construction, single brand retail, broad casting and civil aviation.

This is aimed at boosting the investment environment and bring in more foreign investments in

the country. The governement also raised the threshold limit of approval by Foreign Investment

Promotion Board (FIPB) from the earlier Rs. 3,000 crore to Rs. 5,000 crore. In defence sector

foreign investment up to 49% has been allowed under automatic route from the earlier

government approved route. In broad casting (FM Radio) and News Channels FDI up to 49 % is

allowed through the FIPB route from the earlier 26%. In Banking sector investment up to

sectoral limit of 74% provided.

Aung San Suu Kyi wins outright majority in Myanmar election

National League for Democracy (NLD) party lead by Aung San Suu Kyi has won Myanmar’s

landmark election and claimed a staggering majority in parliament, ending half a century of

dominance by the military and providing the symbol of a decades-old democracy movement with

a mandate to rule. party had won 348 seats across the lower and upper house of parliament, 19

more than the 329 needed for an absolute majority. US president Barack Obama called Suu Kyi

to congratulate her and her party’s successful campaign.

India’s Coast Guard offshore patrol vessel – ‘Samarth’ commissioned

India’s coast Guard Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) ‘Samarth’ was commissioned by Defence

Minister Manohar Parrikar on 10 November, 2015 at Vasco in Goa. It is the Coast guard’s

largest OPV. The 105 m OPV is fitted with most advance technology, navigation and

India and the UK on 12 November 2015 announced commercial deals worth 9 billion pounds in

London. The deals took place between the companies operating from both the countries. One of

the deals include Apollo Hospitals partnered with Holland & Barrett International in a 20 million

pounds deal to open 1000 Holland & Barrett outlets in India over the next 5 years. Indo-UK

Healthcare, a consortium of Indo-British Promoters, has committed to invest over Rs. 10,000

crore to bring the famed NHS Hospitals of England into the country over the next five years.

3.2 billion deal on energy, climate change done between India & UK

A head of the Paris climate summit, India and UK have agreed on a comprehensive package of

collaboration on energy and climate change which includes commercial deals worth 3.2 billion

pounds. The package encompasses joint research programmes and initiatives to share technical,

scientific and financial and policy expertise.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launches Neev Fund in UK

India’s first Low Income State Infrastructure Equity Partnership (the Neev Fund) was launched

on 13 November, 2015 by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in UK. The fund has co-

investment from the UK Department of International Development and the State Bank of India.

The fund aims to provide equity partnerships for small infrastructure development in sectors like

water & sanitation, clean energy and urban infrastructure.

Naval Ship Vishwakarma commissioned at Vishakapatnam

INS Vishwakarma, the erstwhile Shipwright School (SWS) and a premier training establishment

Medicines and Reliable Implants for Treatment (AMRIT) pharmacy outlet at the All India

Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi. The purpose of the outlet is to reduce the

expenditure incurred by patients on treatment of cancer and heart diseases by 50 to 60 percent. It

is a retail pharmacy outlet that sells drugs and implants for the two ailments-cancer and heart

Odisha Government implements National Food Security Act

Odisha Government has started implementation of National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013 in

14 of the 30 districts of the state in first phase covering 26.33 lakh families. In this regard State

administration to monitor the implementation of the NFSA and rectify irregularities. Under the

NFSA, beneficiaries are entitled to get 5 kg of rice at Rs 3 or 5 kg of wheat at Rs 2 from Public

Governing Council of NIIF constituted

Union Ministry of Finance on 13 November 2015 constituted the Governing Council (GC) of the

National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF). The GC will be chaired by the Union

Financial Services Secretary, Arundhati Bhattacharya, Hemendra Kothari,T V Mohandas Pai. Its

China’s Tianhe-2 supercomputer has emerged as the world’s most powerful supercomputer

system for the sixth consecutive time. It was unveiled in 46th edition of Top500 list of

performing calculations with processing speed of 33.86 petaflops per second.

New envoy to China – Vijay Gokhale

Senior diplomat Vijay Keshav Gokhale has been appointed as India’s Ambassador to China. He

will replace Ashok Kantha, who was appointed as envoy to China in January 2014 for a two-year

term i.e. till January 2016. Currently, Mr.Gokhale is serving as the India’s Ambassador to

Russia’s defence satellite EKS Kosmos-2510

Russia’s newest defence satellite named as EKS Kosmos-2510 was successfully launched into

space and has been placed into its dedicated orbit. It was launched using Russian Soyuz-2.1b

carrier rocket from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome. EKS Kosmos-2510 is early warning satellite and

has been deployed as the first satellite in a new fleet of 10 EKS military satellites to be launched

by 2018 to form new defence system to detect enemy missile heading towards Russian territory.

RBI allows RRBs to launch internet banking

Reserve Bank of India has allowed strong regional rural banks (RRBs) to launch online

transaction through internet banking. Profitable RRBs with minimum Rs.100 crore net worth and

better asset quality will be allowed to offer this service. Banks with capital adequacy ratio over

10% will be allowed to introduce the online transaction services. Weak banks will be allowed to

offer internet services without online transaction facilities.

World Congress on Disaster Management in Visakhapatnam

The second World Congress on Disaster Management (WCDM) has started in Visakhapatnam,

Andhra Pradesh. The 4-day conference was inaugurated by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N.

Chandrababu Naidu and was attended by Union Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah

Naidu and Union Minister of State for Home Kiran Rijiju. The first congress was held in

Hyderabad in 2008. It will address and discuss issues such as implementation of the Sendai

Egypt, Russia signed on nuclear power plant

Egypt and Russia on 19 November 2015 signed an agreement to build a nuclear power plant in

Egypt. As per the agreement, Russia will extend a loan to Egypt to cover the cost of construction.

The plant is expected to be completed by 2022. The plant will be the first in Egypt and will be

built at Dabaa in the North of the country. The project would involve the building of a third-

generation plant with four reactors.

India has successfully test fired it’s indigenously developed supersonic interceptor missile which

interceptor named as Advanced Air Defence (AAD) missile, is a 7.5 metre long single stage

solid rocket propelled guided missile equipped with a navigation system, a hi-tech computer and

an electro-mechanical activator.

N. Gopalaswami committee on Sanskrit promotion

A 13 member expert committee headed by former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) N.

Gopalaswami has been constituted by the Union Human Resource Development (HRD) ministry

exclusively on Sanskrit promotion. The committee recommends measures to integrate the study

of the ancient classical language with other disciplines and also suggests changes in Sanskrit

education in schools and Universities.

Narendra Modi visit to Singapore

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Singapore on 23-24 November 2015. He met with

Singapore Prime Minister Le Hisien Loong and held bilateral talks. Both the countries signed 10

aviation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also met Singapore President Tony Tan Keng and was

Dhanush Missile test fired successfully

The nuclear-capable Dhanush ballistic missile was successfully test fired from warship

Subhadra, off the Puri coast of Odisha in the Bay of Bengal. The test was conducted by Defence

Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The missile has a length of 8.53 meters and is

0.9 meter wide. It is single-stage, liquid propelled which can hit both land and sea-based targets

upto strike range of 350 kms. It is a surface-to-surface missile and can carry both conventional as

well as a nuclear payload of 500 kg.

New Assocham president – Sunil Kanoria

Sunil Kanoria, vice-chairman of non-banking finance company, SREI Infrastructure Finance

Limited on 25 November 2015 took over as new president of The Associated Chamber of

Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham). Mr Kanoria has been instrumental in bringing over

`34,000 crore (over $5 billion) of consolidated assets under SREI which became one of the first

NBFCs to get listed on the London Stock Exchange. He is also the joint managing director of

SREI BNP Paribas.

SEBI signed MoU with Bangladesh

Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)

with the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) on bilateral cooperation and

technical assistance. The MoU was signed by UK Sinha, Chairman, SEBI and Dr M Khairul

Hossain, Chairman, BSEC at Dhaka, Bangladesh. It aims at enhancing investor protection and

creating conditions for an effective development of securities markets in the two countries. The

MoU seeks to promote further development of economic links and cooperation between the two

signatories.

Dedicated commercial satellite launched by Japan

First dedicated commercial satellite was launched by Japan by launching Canadian

communications spacecraft, Telstar 12V on 23 November 2015. With this, Japan is entered into

the commercial satellite launch business. The first commercial satellite launch was overseen by

Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.

Prithvi-II test fired successfully

Nuclear capable surface to surface Prithvi-II missile was test fired successfully from Integrated

Test Range Chandipur, off Odisha Coast on 26 November, 2015. Prithvi-II is capable of carrying

both convensional and nuclear payloads. The missile has a strike range of 250-350 Km and is

capable of carrying a 500 Kg to 1000 Kg load. The twin engine Prithvi-II is 8.56 m in length, 1.1

m in width and weighs 4,600 Kg. The missile uses advanced inertial guidance system fro striking

it’s target. It has the ability to dodge enemy missiles.

Anti-Submarine corvette ‘INS Kadmat’ in Indian Navy

INS Kadmat’, the second of the four indigenously built steath Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW)

corvette was handed over to the Indian Navy on 26 November, 2015 by the Garden Reach

Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE). Indigenously developed ship has bulk of sensors and

weapons system. It can accomodate 17 officers, 106 sailors and can carry a helicopter on board.

The first ship of the series, INS Kamorta was inducted into the Navy in August, 2014.

South Asian Annual Disaster Management Exercise 2015

The South Asian Annual Disaster Management Exercise (SAADMEx) 2015 was held on 23-26

November 2015 in New Delhi. This was the first-ever joint exercise to be conducted by the

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) of India. This joint exercise was attended by South

Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) member countries which include

Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.It aimed to

synchronise efforts to institutionalise regional cooperation on disaster response among SAARC

member countries. During the course of the exercise, various types of latest gadgets and

equipments as well as varied Disaster Response skill sets were demonstrated by the teams of the

participating nations.

Israeli-Indian Barak-8 missile successfully test fired

The joint Israeli-Indian Barak-8 missile on 26 November, 2015 was successfully test fired in

Israel. The Barak-8 missile is designed to defend naval vessels against incoming missiles,planes

and drones. The next test on the system is likely to be held later in India. The missile having a

range of 50-70 Kms has been fitted with a dual pulse propulsion system.

Queen Elizabeth II opened the Commonwealth summit of leaders of the 53 Commonwealth

nations in Malta on 27 November. The meeting will focus on climate change and the threat of

extremist violence. The theme of the 2015 summit is ‘The Commonwealth – Adding Global

Value’. On behalf of India External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj attended the summit. The

Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (Chogm), held every two years, will focus on

Pankaj Saran on 27 November 2015 selected as India’s new ambassador to Russia. Currently he

Commonwealth’s new Secretary General- Patricia Scotland

Dominica-born British lawer Patricia Scotland has been elected as the new Secretary General of

Agni-I test fired successfully

India on 27 November, 2015 successfully test fired Agni-I ballistic missile from Dr. Abdul

Kalam Island off Odisha coast. The neclear capable surface to surface missile can destroy targets

nealry 700 Km away. The missile is 15 m long and powered by solid and liquid propellants at a

speed of 2.5 km per seconds. It weighs around 12 tonnes and can carry both convensional and

nuclear payload of about 1000 Kg. It is equipped with sophisticated navigation system.

China launched latest Yaogan-29 satellite

China on 27 November, 2015 launched latest Yaogan Weixing series satellite called ‘Yaogan-29′

(YG-29) by a Long March -4C launch vehicle from the LC-9 launch complex at the Taiyuan

Satellite Launch Centre (TSLC). It was reported as the 219th launch of the rocket family known

as the Chang Zheng in Chinese. The satellite will be used for experiments, land surveys, crop

yield estimates and disaster relief.

Harika won the FIDE online Chess Championship

Indian Grand Master Harika Dronavalli won the title of FIDE World Online Women Blitz

Championship held on 26 November in Rome, Italy. More than 300 chess players from 39

countries took part in the preliminary tournaments. Total 10 players participated in the finals.

Among these Harika from India and Nana Dzagnidze of Gerogea stood at first place with 13.5

points each. With better tie brake score, Harika won the title.

Nico Rosberg won 2015 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg from Germany has won the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix title of

Formula One race held on 28 November. Abu Dhabi Grand Prix title race was the nineteenth and

final round of the 2015 season of Formula One. It was Rosberg’s overall fourteenth

championship title of F1 in his career and the sixth win in the 2015 season. Lewis Hamilton

(Great Britain) of Mercedes team stood at second position in this race.

Russia imposes economic sanctions against Turkey

Russia has imposed economic sanctions against Turkey, a NATO member over the issue of

downing of a Russian Sukhoi 24 warplane on the Syrian border. Russian economic sanctions

covers ban on imports from Turkey, work of Turkish companies in Russia and any Turkish

nationals working for Russian companies. End to charter flights between the countries and urges

Russian tour operators to refrain from selling tourist packages to Turkey.

India-Japan agreement on Metro Rail Projects

India and Japan on 27 November exchanged notes for Japan’s Official Development Loan

Assistance worth Rs. 5,536 crore for Chennai and Ahmedabad metro rail projects. Japan has

committed loan of amount of about Rs. 1,080 crore for the Chennai Metro Rail Project (IV

Phase) and Rs. 4,456 crore for Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project.

PV Sindhu won Macau Open Badminton tournament

Indian Shuttler PV Sindhu on November 29, 2015 won the Macau Open Grand Prix Gold

women’s singles title for the third consecutive time. In the finals Sindhu defeated Minatsu Mitani

of Japan with 21-9, 21-23, 21-14 score. This was Sindhu’s first title of the season and the fifth

overall.

World Heavy Weight Champion-Tyson Fury

Britain’s Tyson Fury was crowned the new world heavy weight champion after a win over

Vladimir Klitschko of Ukraine who suffered his first defeat in eleven years since 2004. With this

victory Tyson Fury won the prize money of about Rs. 35 crores along with world heavy weight

championship belt.

Great Britain wins 2015 Davis Cup of Tennis

Andy Murray led Great Britain have won the 2015 Davis Cup for first time since 1936 and for

the 10th time in the competition’s 115-year history. Great Britain tennis team defeated Belgium

team by 3-1 score in the finals to win the 104th edition of the competition. The Davis Cup is the

premier international team event in men’s tennis organised by the International Tennis

Federation (ITF). It was established in 1900 as a tennis challenge between Great Britain and the

United States.

UGC plans world’s largest portal ‘Bharatvani’ project

The UGC, the apex body tasked with maintenance of standards in higher education, has proposed

an all-inclusive and interactive portal, ‘Bharatvani’, the largest internet language site in the

world, where knowledge in all Indian languages will be collected and disseminated. UGC

secretary asked all universities and colleges to share digitised and non-digitised material in

various languages available with them for the ambitious ‘Bharatvani’ project. Bharatvani is a

project with an objective of delivering knowledge in and about all languages in India using

multimedia (i.e., text, audio, video, images) formats through a portal (website).

Climate Change Conference in Paris

The international conference on climate change has began on 30 November, 2015 in Paris -Le

Bourget, France. The summit is aimed at ending a two decade long logjam that seeks to contain

global warming. About 40,000 delegates from 195 nations are attended the summit. Among the

participants, 183 countries have submitted action plans to achieve the goal of limiting warming

to 2 degree centigrade. World leaders launched Mission Innovation for accelerating clean energy

revolution across the world. As part of this initiative, the participating countries double their

clean energy research and development funding by 2020.

India’s GDP growth accelerates to 7.4 per cent

India’s economic growth accelerated to 7.4% in the July- September quarter, overtaking China as

the world’s fastest growing major economy in manufacturing, mining and services sectors. The

GDP expansion by 7.4 per cent in the second quarter of the current fiscal bettered 6.9% growth

in China for the same period. Russia contracted by 4.1 per cent and Brazil with 4.2 per cent in

the same period. How ever, the growth rate for the latest quarter was far below 8.9 per cent

recorded in the July- September quarter of the previous fiscal.

India launched International Solar Alliance

India launched an International Solar Alliance (ISA) at the CoP21 Climate Conference held on

30 November, 2015 in Paris. The new body, which has invited all countries located fully or

partly between the tropics of Cancer and Capricorn to join, is to function from the National

Institute of Solar Energy in India, Gurgaon, Haryana. The centre will provide land and 30 million

dollars to form a secretariat for the Alliance, and also support it for five years.

Inactivated Polio Vaccine (IPV) injection launched by Centre

As part of Global Polio Endgame strategy, India has launched Inactivated Polio Vaccine (IPV) in

New Delhi. The vaccine was launched by the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare J P

Nadda. The launching of IPV would enable children to get double protection from polio i.e.

orally and in the form of injection. IPV and OPV together will further strengthen the children’s

immune system and will provide double protection against polio. IPV injection will be given to

children below one year of age along with the third dose of the Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) at the

routine immunization sessions free of cost.
