A RCE aspires to achieve the goals of the DESD by translating its global objectives into the context of regional areas in which it operates. – Improve access to quality basic education;– Reorient existing education to address
sustainable development;– Develop public understanding and awareness;
and – Provide training programs for all sectors of
private and civil society.

UNU Strategy to Promote the Decade of Education for
Sustainable Development
UNU-IAS has established a Global Service Centre for RCEs,
RCEs from around the world and their networks will constitute a global learning space for sustainable development (GLSSD).
The Ubuntu Alliance, the consortium of eleven international research and educational institutions agreed to support promotion of the development of RCEs as part of a global learning space for sustainable development.
Envisioning of the awards for innovative, joint projects of two or more institutions from different sectors.
