A major part of SL vehicles are sustainably operated
• All track vehicles run on energy from wind, water and bio mass– Next step: less energy consumption
• Today approx. 30% of the buses run on renewables – 2011 50% – 2025 100%
75% of all traffic is today operated with renewable fuels

The SL philosophy Strategies to reach the goals
• Use the best available solutions of today
• Support and empower projects for future solutions. Hybrids, fuel cells etc
To be considered
• Political decisions and
commitments
• Global climate changes
• Local emissions
• Security and supply
• Ethics, certificates etc
• Price
Sustainable fuels – but which to chose?
www.balticbiogasbus.eu 8
• Renewable fuel, great volume potential – All city buses operated with ethanol or
biogas– Start 1989 – Now 420 buses
• Ethical?– Environmental and social aspects on
the global level– 50% surplus from Swedish paper pulp
production– 50% from Brazilian sugar cane
SL has the worlds larest fleet of ethanol buses
www.balticbiogasbus.eu 9
…and one of Europe´s largest fleets of biogas buses
• A fuel for the future– Today 81 buses – Ca 500 buses within some
years– Long-term cooperation with
water suppliers and sewage plants(Stockholm Water, Stockholm Gas and the Käppala Sewage Corp)
• Ethical– 100% biological– 100% waste product– Locally produced

• Reduced emissions of fossil CO2: 60 000 000 kg/annum
• Reduced emission of CO2 per passenger kilometre: 72,5 grams/pkm
• Reduced emissions of NOx and PM
