ASIA

Asia is the world’s largest and most populous continent. It is about four times the size of Europe. It contains about 60% of the world population, making it the most populous continent. The most populous countries of China and India are located here. Asia has been a

pioneer in the field of culture and religion. Asia is a land of contrasts.

LOCATION

1. Latitude – Asia lies almost entirely in the Northern Hemisphere. Asia lies between latitudes 10°S to 80°N. It spans over a total of 90° of latitudes, 10° in the Southern Hemisphere and 80° in the Northern Hemisphere.

2. Longitude – Asia lies almost entirely in the Eastern Hemisphere. Asia lies between longitudes 25°E and 170°W. it stretches over 165° of longitude, 155° in the Eastern Hemisphere and 10° in the Western Hemisphere.

1) Exports: Minerals rank among Asia’s most important exports. Tin, mica, manganese, iron-ore are some of the leading items of export.

2) Imports: Most of the developing countries of Asia import machinery, transport equipment, chemicals, electrical products and petroleum.

NATURAL RESOURCES

The greatest natural wealth of Asia is its agricultural resources. But they are unevenly distributed. Their occurrence is great in some places and insignificant in others. There are large areas covered by deserts, mountains and forests. Asia also contains some of the richest mineral deposits in the world. Water resources which are important for industrial growth, are also plentiful. Other resource of Asia include forests and fisheries.

About one-sixth of the total land area is suitable for agriculture. Agriculture is carried on in the fertile river valleys of the Tigris-EUPHRATES, Indus, Ganga-Brahmaputra, Sikiang, Chang Jiang (Yangtse) and Huang He.
