Pastor’s Letter

Please remember your parish in your Will.

Our website: www.trparishes.org

www.facebook.com/stanntacoma/live

Dear Parishioners, We had a blessed Twenty-eighth Week of Ordinary Time, and this weekend is Laity Sunday. We pray for our laity for their leader-ship role within our parishes, for their commitment and for their support in building up our parishes. We thank them, our parish staff and all of our parish volunteers for faithfully serving our parish. We honor them for their ministry and their love for us! We also pray for the listening session to prepare for the 2023 Synod of Bishops in Rome. We thank you for joining us at the Opening Mass cele-brated by Archbishop Etienne at 5:30PM at St. James’ Cathedral, in union with the Church throughout the world to prepare for this Synod. We had a blessed event at St. John of the Woods Mission Church that our Outreach Ministers organized to prepare luncheon boxes for our senior parishioners and presented to them when they came to pick up these beautiful lunch boxes to enjoy. We thank this special ministry for building up our parish during this challenging time. We also thank the Facility Leadership Team for working with our neighborhood around St. John of the Woods Mission Parish’s property to clear up, as well as trim and cut down the unwant-ed cottonwood trees (to prevent these dying trees from falling onto the neighboring houses and property); and we thank our wonder-ful neighborhood for assisting us to cut down these trees. We are very happy to see the saplings growing and soon the fields will resemble our Patron Saint’s title, “Saint John of the Woods” and it is not Saint John of the Stumps as Father Bryan Dolejsi joked, when he came to visit. We also thank the Lay Parish Leadership Team for their time to fix our sound system at Visitation Church. The Presider’s micro-phone was damaged, and caused static noise on Friday and Saturday Masses within the last few weeks. We purchased a new micro-phone and other equipment to replace the damaged sound system parts. This is a small project, which involved a little work and is an important work that needed to be done for our small parish with what financial resources that we have. We thank you for your gener-osity with your stewardship of time, talent, and treasure. I hope that you already received our Annual Parish Report that we had sent to your home (before we commenced the Stewardship Campaign for Treasure). We reported to you on what we had done for the past year, and we also shared with you the plan for the coming year. We deeply appreciate your support for the past year and as you read through the Annual Parish Report, you will feel very proud of what we were able to do during the pandemic. Our parishes continue to offer Daily and Weekend Masses, in addition to providing many other outreach services to our parishioners and others. We are working with the Strategic Planning with the Arch-diocese of Seattle, as well as merging five parishes into one parish, which is a big challenge. We met with the Parish Stakeholders’ Representative from their own parish as well as working with their neighboring parish to share our resources to serve you. We re-ceived some recommendations from the subcommittee members to us, but we have had a difficult time to form a committee that can implement their recommendations. I cordially invite you to join our committees such as Liturgy, Facility, Stewardship, Diversity, History, Ministry, Communication, Outreach, Financial and Developing, or Hospitality. We thank the Extraordinary Ministers at St. Ann’s Church for their training day during this pandemic time. We thank the core team who organized this event. We also thank the core team for making Breakfast to raise some funds to support our parish during this time. We have to pay many bills relating to our operational costs, as well as ministry, staff, and to allow us to have Daily and Week-end Masses in different parish locations and other ministry programs. Please try to be generous with your parish, so we can continue to witness the Gospel and offer our parish’s ministry to serve others. We are welcoming two new members to our Catholic Faith through the Sacrament of Initiation, which is Baptism, Communion, and Confirmation, as well as Adult Baptism (in extraordinary and grave circumstances. We welcome Emma Roberson who joined us through the Sacrament of Initiation and please remember her in your prayers. Her children and grandchildren are very happy with her decision, and they fully supported her. We also welcomed Jonathan Wright through the Sacrament of Baptism to join our Catho-lic Faith. We have some challenges with some of our parishioners who wanted to receive the Sacrament of Anointing for the Sick, and they are not able to receive it, because they are in isolation, making it difficult for anyone to visit them. When you want to receive the Sacrament of Anointing, please call the Parish Office to leave a message for a Priest or you can always call the emergency number, which is my cell phone, so I can respond to you right away (if I am in a meeting or celebrating Mass, I will check my phone messag-es after the meeting or Mass). Please join us to pray the Rosary before Daily and Weekend Masses for Respect Life during the month of October. We thank you for continuing to support our parish ministry and activities. You are also cordially invited to join us and volunteer to serve others by generously sharing your talent and time. May you have a blessed day! We thank you for your love and care for our parishes! Sincerely yours in Christ,

Fr. Tuan Nguyen, D. Min Pastor

Archdiocesan Pastoral Plan Archbishop Paul Etienne with the help of the Archdioce-san Pastoral Council has initiated an Archdiocesan Pastor Plan. The plan will focus on helping us to: Encounter Jesus Christ, Become Disciples, and Make Disciples. Regularly in the bulletin we will have a short article on the Pastoral Plan Activities and Prayer to guide you and your family to deepen your faith and love for Jesus as his beloved disciples. Please pick a time when the family can be together, you and your spouse can be together, or perhaps you can join with grandchildren and family members to enjoy the ac-tivities and prayer. Pastoral Plan Activities and Prayer

29 Sunday Oct. 17 Please read the Gospel for this Sunday Mark 10:35-45. In the Gospel Jesus teaches the disciples that to follow him that are to act as servants to all. They have a difficult time understanding and accepting what Jesus is asking of them. It is not until they see Jesus giving his life in loving generosity on the cross and the new life of his resurrection that they begin to understand. We, too, find generous service to all difficult to accept and put into practice. Dialogue: What are some of the crosses you as a family face (financial worries, sickness, care of relatives, job or school is-sues, others)? How do you handle the multiple demands and expectations, the corona virus restrictions, etc. placed on you? Activity: How can each family member support (serve) each other when the crosses weigh heavily? Make a list of the crosses, difficulties, frustrations etc. that you and the family face? Write them down and place them before an image of the Lord, or behind a crucifix and ask the Lord to strengthen you and the family. Before coming to Mass, ask each member to pray asking God’s blessing and strength as you or the family try to serve and help each other or a member who faces some particular difficulties.

The Archdiocese of Seattle is offering a 6-to 8-month Cate-chetical Certification Program (CCP) for parish staff, volun-teers, adult learners, and parents of homeschoolers. This pro-gram provides the foundation for knowing, living, and teach-ing our Catholic faith.

Carlos Carrillo, director of Faith Formation from Seattle is currently setting up the Catechetical Certification Program in our regional parishes. It will be conducted at St. Ann on Sat-urdays. Each class is 3 hours for a total of 7 classes. The For-mation/Training classes include watching and studying videos corresponding to the Tasks of Catechesis and Methodology, attending a retreat, observing and preparing for teaching clas-ses. Participants will receive a Catechetical Certification Cer-tificate after the completion of the program. Program cost is $75 per participant.

Stewardship of Treasure Making a Difference by

Sharing of our Financial Resources

Every year at this time, we are asked

to think about our stewardship of all

the gifts that God has placed in our trust. Not just how

we are taking care of those gifts, but how we are sharing

those gifts with our parish and our community as well. In

the coming weeks we will be asked to consider if we are

returning a proper portion of those gifts to our Church for

the Lord to build up His Kingdom. Next Sunday we will

be invited to reflect on how God has blessed us, how we

became grateful, and how & why we want to share our

blessings. There will be Ask for filling out Treasure Com-

mitment Card.

WORLD MISSION SUNDAY In a world where so much divides us, World Mission Sunday reminds us of our unity as children of God and mis-sionaries of His word. It is a chance to answer our baptismal call to mis-sion, and to offer our prayers and sup-port to those helping His church around the world.

In Africa, 19,000 young men are preparing to be priests and supporting the services of over 6,500 Catholic clinics and hospitals.

In Asia, Religious Sisters educate over six million chil-dren in more than 15,000 Church-run elementary schools.

In Europe, the Church is building parishes to welcome faith communities renewed after years of persecution.

One Minute Meditations Why do Catholics turn to Mary? In Old Testament kingdoms, the queen mother played a signifi-cant role in her son’s governance of His kingdom. Her power and authority flowed from her position as it related to her son. His subjects of-ten petitioned her to speak for them. As Queen Mother of Heaven, Mary’s pur-pose is to further her Son’s kingdom. When we turn to her, she acts with her authority to bring our concerns to her Son, and He is always inclined to fulfill her wishes. Growing in Faith October 2021 Issue

TODAY IS WORLD MISSION SUNDAY. We celebrate this day by remembering our baptismal call – to bring the Gospel to all! The collection today for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith sup-ports the work and witness of the Mission Church, as it provides for priests, reli-gious and lay leaders who offer the Lord’s mercy and concrete help to the most vulnerable communities in the Pope’s missions. Thank you for your generosity.

A Prayer to St. Joseph, Defender of Life

Dearest St. Joseph, at the word of an angel, you lovingly took Mary into your

home. As God’s humble servant, you guided the Holy Family on the road to Bethle-

hem, welcomed Jesus as your own son in the shelter of a manger, and fled far from

your homeland for the safety of both Mother and Child.

We praise God that as their faithful protector, you never hesitated to sacrifice for

those entrusted to you. May your example inspire us also to welcome, cherish, and

safeguard God’s most precious gift of life. Help us to faithfully commit ourselves to

the service and defense of human life-especially where it is vulnerable or

threatened. Obtain for us the grace to do the will of God in all things. Amen.

Pierce Deanery Transition Prayer

Heavenly Father, We thank you for gathering us together and calling us to serve as your disciples. You have charged us through Your Son,

Jesus, with the great mission of evangelizing and witnessing your love to the world. Send your Holy Spirit to guide us as we discern Your will for the spiritual

renewal of our parish communities. Give us strength, courage, and clear vision as we use our gifts to serve

You. We entrust our parish families to the care of Mary,

our Mother and ask for her intercession and guidance as we strive to bear witness to the Gospel, celebrating

the qualities of each faith filled community and together building an engaging parish. Amen

Kid’s Tip:

There is a time for

everything and everything on earth has its special season. There is a time to cry and a time to laugh. There is a time to be sad and a time to dance. “Ecclesiastes 3:1,4”

Do you like to laugh? Of course you do! Laughter is a gift from God that He hopes you’ll use the right way. God wants you to be happy. You should laugh with people, friends, family,

but never at them. Laughter is GOOD medicine. So here’s your prescription:

LAUGH LOTS!

A Prayer to help you remember:

Dear Lord, Laughter is Your gift. Today and every day, put a smile on my face and let me share it with all who cross my path… and let me laugh. Amen

Our parish ministries require your participation..

Through the gifts of your time and talents we maintain a

vibrant faith community that increases our likeness to

Christ. Call the Parish for a list of ministries. Get involved!

Dear Visitation Family,

This letter is simply an invitation to pause and to briefly offer up a prayer for Respect Life Month. At Visitation we have a root belief that says, God is in All Things. This is, “a root belief for our community because we think beyond our own needs, rather, we see ourselves in relationship to all of God’s creation.” Respect Life week draws our attention to the belief that we are all made in the image and likeness of God and that we are in relationship to all of God’s creation. I pray for our world, for wisdom, perseverance, and humility to address the many issues related to respecting life. Problems such as poverty, war, hunger, abortion, immigration, human trafficking, systemic injustice, and environmental sustainability relate to a core belief of respecting life and these issues can feel too big to solve. As people we are incomplete, we need God’s grace to bring us together and to elevate our thoughts toward the dignity of all life.

If you are able, thank you for joining me in prayer.

With gratitude, Marc Nuno Principal
