The Great Hamilton Harbour Geocache - “geocaching (pronounced geo-cashing) is a worldwide game of hiding and seeking treasure. Our multi-cache treasure hunt consists of multiple discoveries of one or more intermediate points containing the coordinates and a clue for the next stage; the final stage is the geocache which contains a log book and trade items. How much does it cost? It doesn’t cost anything to play and your reward is discovering the illusive final cache and retrieving your prize. Where are these "caches"? The caches are hidden in 5 unique locations located throughout the Harbour. A cache might be hidden in a tree, in the ground or attached to a structure. What does the cache look like? The first four “coordinate caches” are small glass vials, each with its own set of coordinates for the next location. The final cache is a larger cylindrical glass jar with a stainless steel lid. Each cache will be labeled “HH Geocache” along with a corresponding number. Do I need a GPS unit? No. You can use Google Earth as a substitute. HamiltonHarbour.ca

- “geocaching (pronounced geo-cashing) is a worldwide game of hiding and seeking

treasure. A geocacher can place a geocache in the world, pinpoint its location using

GPS technology and then share the geocache's existence and location online.

Anyone with a GPS device can then try to locate the geocache.” - geocaching.com

Throughout the wonderfully diverse ecosystem we call Hamilton Harbour are five

cleverly hidden locations waiting to be found! Our multi-cache treasure hunt consists

of multiple discoveries of one or more intermediate points containing the coordinates

and a clue for the next stage; the final stage is the geocache which contains a log

book and trade items.

How much does it cost?

It doesn’t cost anything to play and your reward is discovering the illusive final cache

and retrieving your prize.

Where are these "caches"?

The caches are hidden in 5 unique locations located throughout the Harbour. A

cache might be hidden in a tree, in the ground or attached to a structure.

What does the cache look like?

The first four “coordinate caches” are small glass vials, each with its own set of

coordinates for the next location. The final cache is a larger cylindrical glass jar with a

stainless steel lid. Each cache will be labeled “HH Geocache” along with a

corresponding number.

Do I need a GPS unit?

No. You can use Google Earth as a substitute.

1. Download Google Earth to your computer or tablet device.

2. Copy and paste the coordinates into the Google Earth “search” bar and press

enter.

3. Use the clue provided and the Google Earth map to assist you in finding the hidden

geocache.

4. Once a geocache is found, open the lid and remove one of the slips of paper

containing your next set of coordinates and its corresponding clue. Close the lid and

return the geocache to its original hiding spot.

5. Upon finding the fifth and final geocache, enter your name and the date in the log

book provided. Remove your prize from the jar and in return, please leave something

of equal or greater value. Return the jar to its original hiding spot once you have

completed the hunt.

6. Tell us about your adventure. Join the Great Hamilton Harbour Geocache

Facebook page and share your geocaching stories!

The names of participants who have completed the challenge will regularly be posted

on the Great Hamilton Harbour Geocache Facebook page along with items found in

the cache.

You are now fully trained in the art of geocaching. Enjoy the
