The selection process combines peer evaluations and peer nominations with third party

research; each candidate is carefully evaluated on 12 indicators of professional achievement.

Such indicators include: experience, representative clients, honors and awards, special licenses

and certifications, pro bono and community service, scholarly lectures and writings, employment

background, and other notable achievements.

Before selections are complete, the research staff checks into each candidate’s background and

standing with their local licensing authority to ensure that there are no matters that would reflect

adversely on the lawyer.

The final Super Lawyers® list represents no more than 5 percent of attorneys in each state. The

lists are published annually in state and regional editions of Super Lawyers® Magazines.

Attorney Joseph Keegan earned his bachelor’s degree from Curry College and his juris

doctorate from New England School of Law. Attorney Keegan served in the U.S. Army from

1989 through 1991, in the Massachusetts National Guard from 1991 through 1997, and the U.S.

Army Reserves Jag Unit from 1999 to 2001. He attended Boston Police Academy in 1994 and

worked as a police officer for more than 10 years before defending the criminally accused.
