NRL Visits ... Ruan Sims and Jeremy (NRL) made a stop in to WPS last week to speak with our students about respect. This was a great session with many important messages heard.

Mr V’s news...Welcome to another fantastic week at Warialda Public School. It has been so exciting to hear that some parts of our area have received much needed rainfall over the past week or so. Interestingly, many of our students are asking if the drought has broken and whilst it’s safe to say that things have improved for some farmers, we are hopeful of more rain. Fingers crossed there is more to come!

At the start of each school year, there are several notes and important pieces of information sent home to parents. Whilst we remind the students to take responsibility for attending to these notes, we’d encourage parents to enquire with our Administration Team should you feel that something has been misplaced! We are always more than happy to send home a second note should an original be misplaced.

Last Thursday evening, WPS hosted our annual Meet the Teacher evening. It was lovely to see so many parents in attendance, taking up the opportunity to establish a strong relationship with their child’s classroom teacher. If you were unable to attend this event, don’t despair as you are always most welcome to contact your child’s teacher via the school offi ce and make an appointment to chat.

Our school Facebook Page is a wonderful source of information and a way that we share ‘good news stories’ with our school community. In keeping with best practice, we avoid using this media platform where possible for giving daily messages. For members of our school community who comment on posts published to our page, please be mindful to keep your messages of a positive nature. We love our school Facebook page and look forward to seeing it continue to thrive in 2020.

This Friday, a team of approximately 35 students will travel to Inverell to compete for a place in the Inverell Zone Swimming Team. We wish each of these swimmers an enjoyable and successful day of competition and look forward to providing an update of results.

Again in 2020, we will be advocating for our school to reach the elusive target of 92% attendance. The fi rst 2 weeks back at school has seen us set the bar quite high with an attendance rate of 94.28%. Congratulations to our students for coming to school each day and trying their best. I’m confi dent that we’ll crack the 92% barrier this year!

Finally, PSSA Knockouts are just around the corner and it is important that our school community understand how these work. All students from Years 3 to 6 are advised that they can nominate to ‘try out’ for each of the 11 sports that WPS enters into the knockout competition. From there, teachers conduct trials over a series of lunchtimes to pick the actual team. If a child gains selection in a team, it will likely mean that they will have to play an away fi xture at some point and this means we will require parents to assist with transport. Selection in a team may also mean that a student needs specifi c equipment such as football boots or mouthguard. However, many of our sporting teams have all of the equipment provided! We look forward to a terrifi c year of knockout competitions.
