About the program On an EF Academic Year Abroad program you’ll spend six, nine or 11-months in a destination of your choice, improving your fluency in another language. You’ll enjoy a program that combines language learning with a focus on the academic subjects that matter to you. It’s the ideal way to experience a true cultural exchange as you discover the ins-and-out of a fascinating country abroad. You’ll learn in class alongside new friends from around the world, and then put your skills to the test as you live the local lifestyle – learning the language as it’s used in everyday life by the native speakers around you.

Intensive language achievementOur exclusive teaching method, the EF Efekta™ Learning System, is structured to give you a fundamental understanding of your study language and enable you to use it in an academic or professional context. Our approach combines communication-based classroom learning with experienced teachers, specialized course books and interactive online lessons and activities.

Career-focused studiesOnce you’ve gained a strong foundation of language skills, you’ll focus your studies on academic subjects in order to enhance your CV for university or career prospects. Our Special Interest Lessons (SPIN Lessons) and EF Advanced Diploma Programs allow you to personalize your course to meet your specific goals. EF’s University Preparation Abroad Program can equip you with the skills and credentials needed for guaranteed entrance to one of our partner institutions. Undertake an EF Internship or EF Volunteer Experience to gain practical communication experience necessary for the workplace.

Become a citizen of the worldAn essential aspect of your program is discovering a different culture and country alongside students from up to 100 different nations. Explore your course destination with classmates on excursions or during group activities organized by your EF Activity Coordinator. You’ll gain confidence and speak with ease by practicing your language skills with native speakers while building an international network for life.

OUR INNOVATIVE METHOD FOR SOLID SUCCESS

YOUR PATHWAY TO FLUENCY

The EF Efekta™ Learning SystemOur teaching philosophy is based on a simple principle: the more you’re able to personalize your program, the faster you learn. By building a study program around your unique goals and needs – and then putting it into practice with experienced teachers, interactive classtime, technology-assisted practice and real-life immersion – your progress is guaranteed. It’s a fact: you make faster progress when you’re absorbing the language in various ways, around the clock. This unique approach is what we call the EF Efekta™ Learning System.

Teaching tools and more – designed by EFIn addition to our methodology, we also develop our own course curriculum, instructional methods, course books, digital learning materials and online applications. This ensures the content of your lessons is always fully integrated – in course materials, in class, and on your tablet.

Personalized study optionsAdding a whole new dimension to your program, Special Interest Lessons (SPIN Lessons) allow you to build fluency while learning about academic and vocational subjects that interest you. By choosing the type of SPIN Lessons you prefer, you can personalize a program that helps you meet your own specific career and university goals.

HOW FAST WILL YOU LEARN?

EF’s levels are linked to the Common Euro-pean Framework of Reference (CEFR), which is published by the council of Europe. Each CEFR stage is divided into 3 EF course levels.

Our learning guarantee means we promise you’ll progress one course level every six weeks. The chart to the left shows the ideal progress you can expect to achieve, although your success depends on the intensity of your program and your personal motivation. Learning at higher levels continues through the C2 stage, where you can master new concepts and strategies to perform at native speaker level.

OUR TESTING SUITE

We’ve collaborated with leading linguists, testing ex-perts and academics to develop the world’s first free standardized English test that you can take anytime, anywhere. EF accurately measures your language skills from before your course begins to after it’s over with our EFSET suite — which includes a placement test, progress test and graduation test.

We guarantee you’ll advance one course level every six weeks. See more on page 12.

Built for success EFSET was built to the same standards of reliability and accuracy as some of the world’s leading English tests – so, you can confidently prove your fluency to university admissions and employers.

From start to finishYou’ll measure your language skills before your program begins to ensure you’re placed in the right classes and once it’s complete to measure how far you’ve come.

Tailored to youEFSET is the first standardized English test whose content responds to whatever language proficiency you demonstrate as it unfolds – for the most precise results possible.

Immediate results You’ll receive a comprehensive analysis of where your language skills are according to the Common European Framework of Reference as soon as you’ve answered the final question.

A full evaluationYour results include a comparison of where your EFSET score ranks in comparison to other language proficiency exams – like the Cambridge English and TOEFL.

Defining the future The results of completed tests are analyzed by ex-perts and used to improve our teaching materials so you can learn in the best way possible.
