The 2013 Leadership School Committeewould like to invite you to the 17th annualWVa Lions Leadership School Committee tobe held at Flatwoods Davs Hotel on Januarv25-27,2012.

The school committee has worked hard toassemble a group of presenters, seminarsand speakers that will offer you a wide rangeof topics to further your leadership skills andyour knowledge of lionism. The seminarsrange from navigating the web to our ownsight foundation, club officers training todiabetes training. How families serve togetherto better serve their communities and learnto work together with other organizations.The speakers are outstanding from Fridaynight with attorney Tom Haywood, Saturdayluncheon with PDG Wendy Cain, Saturdaynight banquet featuring PID Judge HaynesTownsend from Georgia and finishing withBecky Coakley, from Childrens VisionRehabilitation Program on Sunday.

Our committee polled lions from across thestate as to where they would like to holdthe school. The majority wanted Days Hoteland the committee honored the request. Wewould be honored to have you join us. Seeyou there.

Featured Speakers - 2013Thomas Heywood is the managing partner of the Lions Firm of Bowels Rice McDavid and Love.He graduated Stanford with a BA in 1978 & JD Harvard Law School in 1982. He is a memberof the American Bar Association and the West Virginia State Bar. From 1989-1993 he served asChief of Staff for Gov. Gaston Caperton and recently served as Gov. Earl Tomblins campaignchairman. He had clerked for the Honorable John Field of the US Court of Appeals. He has beenrecognized as one of the l0 most influential business leaders in WV and voted one of the best

lawyers in America. Attorney Heywood is the recipient of may service awards and is active inmany business professional civic and charitable organizations and activities.

PDG Wendy Cain has been a Lion for 20 years and is a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow. She waselected District Governor for l2-N in2006-2007, and has served Lionism at the Club, District,and Multiple District levels for many years. Lion Wendy is a graduate of the 2000 SoutheasternLions Leadership Institute. She has served on the faculty of one LCI and four regional LionsLeadership Institutes. She has also; been a presenter at the USA/Canada Lions LeadershipForum (four times) and Lions leadership events in several states. Lion Wendy has received anumber of awards, highlighted by the MD-I2 Lion of the Year (2001), International President'sCertificates of Appreciation, and the lnternational President's Leadership Medal. Wendy is anengineer with the U.S. Department of Energy in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. She is a project manager

for environmental management projects that are a legacy from the Manhattan Project efforts during World War II.

Wendy and her husband, Barry,live in Knoxville, Tennessee with their "canine kid" Bogie.

Haynes Townsend, from Dalton, Georgia, USA, was elected to serve a two-year term as adirector of The International Association of Lions Clubs at the association's 92nd InternationalConvention, held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, July 6-10, 2009. Past Director Townsend is ajudge. A member of the Dalton Noon Lions Club since 1979, he has held many offices within the

association, including club president, region chair, zone chair, district governor, district librarianand multiple district leadership chair.rHe also served as a presenter at the USA/Canada forum.In recognition of his service to the association, he has received numerous awards including threeLion of the Year Awards, 15 District Governor Appreciation Awards, the Ervin-Crumbley Award,District 18-A Hall of Fame Award, six International President Certificates of Appreciation,

two International Leadership Awards, an International President Award, a Membership Key Award, a Knight of

Strength Award, 3 International President's Awards and the Ambassador of Goodwill Award. Director Townsend is

a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow. In addition to his Lions activities, Past Director Townsend is active in numerousprofeisional and community organizations. He is currently the chair of the Dalton-Whitfield Christmas Parade and

was honored as the Judge of the Year by the State of Georgia. Past Director Townsend and his wife, Donna, also aLion and a Melvin Jones Fellow, have two daughters.

Rebecca Coakley graduated from Marshall University with a Bachelor's Degree in Education,specializing in Elementary and Mentally Impaired, and later received a Master's Degree inLeadership Studies/Administration from West Virginia Graduate College. In 1990, she receivedher Blind and Visually Impaired Certification from the University of Virginia. She is a certifiedLow Vision Therapist through ACVREP. Rebecca has worked in the field of visually impairedsince 1989. She presents in the area of low vision nation wide and has chaired several task forcesto establish low vision projects in other states and countries. Rebecca is has taught courses forSouthwest Missouri State University and is currently an adjunct professor at Marshall UniversityGraduate College and West Virginia University. She serves as the Director/ Pediatric Low

Vision Education Specialist for the Children's Vision Rehabilitation Program of West Virginia University. She is not

administering a project for Underserved Adults in coordination with the WV Lions.
