America ReFramed: There are Jews HereTuesday, December 4 at 7 PMThere Are Jews Here follows the untold stories of four once thriving American Jewish communities that are now barely holding on. Struggling with aging con-gregants and dwindling interest, families are moving to larger cities with more robust congregations. An affecting portrait of people who are doing their part to keep the Jewish spirit alive, There Are Jews Here celebrates religious diversity in small-town America.
America ReFramed: Winter at WestbethTuesday, December 11 at 7 PMThe elderly residents of Westbeth Artists Housing in New York City
are immersed in their art practice as though there is no tomorrow. Video artist Edith Stephen hopes to complete an experimental film for her birthday; contempo-rary dancer Dudley Williams rehearses for an electrifying
return to the stage; and published poet Ilsa Gilbert candidly weaves her experience with breast cancer into her work. A celebration of artistic exploration no matter one’s age, Winter at Westbeth captures inspirational stories about aging and the need to keep creating.
Stories from the Stage: Holidays: The Good, the Bad and the UglyPart 1: Monday, December 10 at 8:30 PMHolidays can bring unforgettable moments with family and friends. Or they can descend into night-mares of scorched food, family dysfunction, and best intentions gone wrong. Tellers share their holiday memories, from the disastrous to the sublime.
Part 2: Monday, December 17 at 8:30 PMThe holidays are seldom easy. They bring great expectations, inevitable disappointments, and occasionally outright disaster. But they also provide companionship and comfort, even when the food is ruined and the mood is tense. Tellers share their holiday heartwarming family experiences and humorous tales.

Apollo 8Wednesday, December 26, 8 PM
Following the tragic fire on Apollo 1 that killed three astronauts, it looked as if the U.S. space program would screech to a halt and lose the race with the Soviets to reach the moon. But Apollo 8, the first mission to circle the moon and return astronauts safely to Earth, proved that the U.S. was still in the game. NOVA looks at the engineering innovations that Apollo 8 pioneered, and that ultimately made the 1969 lunar landing possible. Extensive interviews with Apollo 8 astronauts – Frank Borman, James Lovell and William An-ders – as well as scientists, engineers and mission controllers reveal how new technologies led to a much-needed success in space for the United States.
Commander Frank Borman leads the way for fellow astronauts Jim Lovell and Bill Anders as they leave the suit up room for the launch pad for the Apollo 8 mission.
WTVP will be holding a Board of Director Meeting on December 11th, 2018 at 4 PM in the WTVP Studio, 101 State Street, Peoria, Illinois.

Create Marathons
4Dec. 1 & 2 —Gift of Giving This weekend, join Create lifestyle experts for a dose of holiday inspiration. Travelers Joseph Rosendo, Rudy Maxa and Jim West bask in the glow of Europe’s Christmas markets. Sara Moulton makes peppermint bark to share with friends, while Katie Brown adds custom flour-ishes to store-bought gifts. And Weekends With Yankee celebrates the season with sleigh rides, skiing and more!
4Dec. 8 & 9—Martha’s Magnificent Meals Settle in for some comfort food this weekend while you binge on back-to-back episodes from Martha Stewart’s Cooking School and Martha Bakes. During the marathon, the lifestyle guru prepares dozens of regional desserts— from cakes and cookies to puddings and pies — as well as hearty, cold-weather classics, from pad Thai to chicken pot pie.
4Dec. 15 & 16— Brunch Time Join Create’s cooking pros as they offer their take on this leisurely weekend meal. Lidia Bas-tianch prepares an Italian-style family brunch, complete with a bellini bar. Kevin Belton’s grits and pain perdu take center stage in his New Orleans-style jazz brunch. Nigella Lawson shares her savory take on French toast. America’s Test Kitchen’s reveals the secrets to making eggs Benedict at home. And Jacques Pépin whips up crispy, Creole-inspired beignets.
4Dec. 22 & 23— Joy to the World Celebrate the holidays with Create’s lifestyle ex-perts. The cast of America’s Test Kitchen shares their tips and tricks for planning a stress-free gathering — including their five favorite recipes. Nigella Lawson retreats to the idyllic coun-tryside for a cozy Christmas filled with festive flavors. A Chef ’s Life explores Vivian Howard’s favorite Southern-style recipes. And P. Allen Smith enlists a flower expert for some seasonal decorating ideas.
4Dec. 29 & 30—New Year’s Celebration Count down to 2019 with Create’s entertaining experts! Indulge in the crowd-pleasing appetiz-ers and creative cocktails prepared by Jacques Pépin, Hubert Keller, Ellie Krieger, Steven Raichlen and Julie Taboulie. Then, smart trav-eler Rudy Maxa provides tips on buying bubbly in France. And P. Allen Smith and Katie Brown reveal simple and elegant ideas for hosting with style. Happy New Year!

Did you know that many companies match donations made by their employees and retirees to our organization, WTVP?
A Matching Gift is a dollar-for-dollar* match of your donation to WTVP by your employer. Many companies directly support those causes and organiza-tions their employees value and support.
Contact your Human Resource Department to get your donation matched before the end of the year. Sustainer members need to process their 2018 total contributions after their December payment.
Also, if you volunteer with us, your company may also provide a grant to WTVP as a way to recognize your volunteerism. Matching gifts and volunteer grants are an important source of revenue for WTVP.
Not sure if your company matches gifts or volunteer grants?
Check with your company human resources, personnel, business office or website. This is a simple way to make your gift go further!
Please let WTVP know if you are employed by a matching gift company or if you have any questions, 309-495-0547 or [email protected].
Make your donation count twice as much – complete the matching gift process today!

From the Owens Family…
Our father, Richard L. Owens, was the leading proponent of the notion that a strong endowment fund is critical to sustaining WTVP’s future. He launched the WTVP Endowment Fund in 1984 and continued to provide up to $10,000 in matching funds, every year for 20 years until he passed in 2003. He believed in education, culture and citizenship. The Owens family has since continued that tradition.
We believe in education, culture and citizenship. Endowment giving provides a stable foundation that allows WTVP to do so much. This includes the profoundly positive impact on the lives of children who learn how to read, learn science, and do math through WTVP’s programming. WTVP provides free access and

“WTVP brings the best in quality entertainment and educational programming to Central Illinois. Some of our favorites are Antiques Roadshow, This Old House, Nova, PBS NewsHour, Rick Steve’s Travel and America’s Test Kitchen. Locally produced programs like State & Water and Illinois Adventure, as well as documentaries like The Illinois River and A Golden Cross to Bear, are what truly sets WTVP apart. As a part of the WTVP family, we count it a privilege to help bring the best in programming to our community.
We recognize the need for continued support and have decided to include WTVP as a beneficiary in our estate plan. We feel blessed to be a part of the Founders Society.”
