SPLASH AND BUBBLESUsing groundbreaking digital pup-petry technology, this new animated series will help children learn marine biology and ocean science concepts while building social-emotional skills. SPLASH AND BUBBLES premieres Wednesday, November 23 at 8:45 a.m. and 3:45 p.m.
Created by John Tartaglia (“Imagi-nOcean,” “Johnny and the Sprites”), SPLASH AND BUBBLES is de-signed to encourage kids ages 4-7 to explore the natural undersea world. Developed with an advisory panel of top marine biologists, digital innova-tors and educators, SPLASH AND BUBBLES is grounded in a marine biology curriculum that focuses on themes of diversity, individuality, in-terconnectedness and the celebration of learning and discovery. The series also introduces the concepts of eco-logical balance and the importance of taking care of the ocean.
“SPLASH AND BUBBLES empha-sizes the important social-emotional skills needed to help kids discover the interconnectivity among all living creatures, while creating an under-standing of the variety of life that exists under the sea, fostering an ap-preciation for the biodiversity in our ocean,” said Lesli Rotenberg, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Children’s Media and Education, PBS. “PBS KIDS is committed to using the power of media to build science skills to help inspire children to explore the fascinating world of marine biology and the wonder that makes up the majority of our planet’s surface.”

Notes from the President & CEO
Moss Bresnahan, President and CEOTwitter: @MossILMedia
Our thanks also go out to you, our loyal and active members. Just like with our volunteers, many of you have been mem-bers for many, many years. But regardless of how long you have been a member or the size of your support, you should take great pride in helping us continue our mission to bring quality programming to people all across Central Illinois. So on behalf of everyone at WTVP, I thank you. And I also wish you and yours a safe and happy Thanksgiving.
A time for thanksWhile we are thankful throughout the year, the Thanksgiving hol-iday offers all of us a special opportunity to reflect on all we have to be thankful for. All of us at WTVP have much to be thankful. One of the things that we are most thankful for is our volunteers. They number in the hundreds and they volunteer thousands of hours of their time. Our annual Auction would literally not be possible without these wonderful people. So it was a great joy to have a large group of them gathered recently in our studio for our 30th annual Volunteer Recognition Reception. It is amazing to find out how many of these people have been volunteering for ten, twenty or even thirty or more years… longer than we have even been having our recognition event! It was nice to spend some time with all of these people without the pressure of the next item up for bid. While I had the opportunity to speak to many of you that night, may I take this moment to thank not only our attendees that night, but all of those special people who support our station with a most precious gift… their time. So I thank each and every one of you who help make WTVP a vital community asset for Central Illinois.

SOUNDBREAKING: STORIES FROM THE CUTTING EDGE OF RECORDED MUSIC, ex-plores the extraordinary impact of re-corded music on the modern world. SOUNDBREAKING was the last project produced by legendary music producer Sir George Martin, who passed away on March 8. The series combines unprecedented access to some of the most celebrated artists, producers and innovators from across the music spectrum, with rare archival studio footage and an ex-tensive soundtrack, to deliver one of the most wide-ranging series on the art of music recording. SOUND-BREAKING will air weekdays, November 14-23, at 9:00 p.m.
Charting a century’s worth of inno-vation and experimentation in the creation of music, SOUNDBREAK-ING offers a behind-the-scenes look at the birth of new sounds. From the invention of the microphone to the Moog synthesizer, from the phonograph to digital streaming, SOUNDBREAKING moves between past and present to tell the stories behind the sounds and reveals how innovation redefined not only what we listen to and how we listen to it, but our very sense of what music is and can be. Viewers of all ages will hear the songs they love in a whole new way.
The series features more than 150 ex-clusive and original interviews with such luminaries as Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Joni Mitchell, Roger Waters, Roger Daltrey, Linda Perry, Barry Gibb, Elton John, Debbie Harry, Quincy Jones, B.B. King, Annie Lennox, Dave Stewart, Mark Knopfler, Tom Petty, Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt, Lindsey Buckingham, Rosanne Cash, Don Was, Steven Van Zandt, Sheila E, Questlove, Ben Harper, Billy Idol, Beck, Imogen Heap, Darryl McDaniels, RZA, Bon Iver, Nile Rodgers, Nigel Godrich, Q-tip, Brian Eno, Mark Ronson, Rick Rubin, Tony Visconti and more.

Black America Since MLK: And Still I Rise BLACK AMERICA SINCE MLK: AND STILL I RISE, a two-part, four-hour documentary series hosted, executive produced and written by Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr., will pre-miere on PBS over two Tuesdays—November 15 and 22 at 7 p.m.
In BLACK AMERICA SINCE MLK, Henry Louis Gates, Jr. looks at the last 50 years of African-American history — from Dr. King to Barack Obama, from James Brown’s “I’m Black and I’m Proud” to Beyoncé’s “Formation” — charting the remarkable progress black people have made, and raising hard questions about the obstacles that remain. The series begins at the point where the story we Americans tell about ourselves becomes complicated. Almost every schoolchild today learns about the civil rights movement — about how our nation moved itself forward, against the will of many, out of a shameful past. Yet what has hap-pened since? And here, the series steps out of the sanctified past and into the complex, raw, conflicted present. Today, Barack Obama sits in the White House and African Americans wield influence in every domain, from business to academia to the arts. At the same time, black people are incarcerated at six times the rate of whites and face financial inequality, while whites now have 13 times the wealth of blacks. Many of our schools and neighborhoods are more segregated than they were in 1965, and police killings of unarmed black men in places like Ferguson, Baltimore and Baton Rouge recur with tragic frequency — inspiring radically different responses within black and white communities. How did we end up here, when half a century ago racial equality seemed imminent — even inevitable?
