INTRODUCTION• The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC)

was formed in 1991 by a group of Travel & Tourism CEOs who felt that the sector’s contribution to economies and job creation was not being recognised and its head quarter located at London. Its objectives were to use empirical evidence to promote awareness of Travel & Tourism’s economic contribution; to expand markets in harmony with the environment; and to reduce barriers to growth.

MISSION

• The potential of the travel and tourism sector can be fully realized only if a supportive regulatory framework is in place. No single aspect of travel and tourism can succeed without increasing co-operation between the Government and the private sector.

• Such co-operative endeavors, within a supportive regulatory framework, are vital to the development of a sustainable travel and tourism industry. WTTCII aims to advance this endeavor and to work together with private and public organizations to achieve these objectives.

• Freedom to Travel• ‘Freedom to Travel’ means ensuring that people

have the right to cross international borders safely and efficiently for tourism purposes. It means smarter visa processes, and trusted traveller programmes.

• Policies for Growth• WTTC campaigns for governments to implement

policies that encourage the growth of Travel & Tourism. This means planning and investing in appropriate infrastructure and policies that encourage a healthy business environment

Page 11: Wttc (World travel and tourism council)

• Tourism for Tomorrow Travel & Tourism is growing faster than any other sector. Our sector

already accounts for 9.5 per cent of global GDP and 266 million jobs. Over the next 10 years Travel & Tourism’s global impact on GDP is set to rise by 4 per cent per annum.

‘Tourism for Tomorrow’ addresses the challenges posed by such growth. It is WTTC’s vision for tourism which responds to the demands of increasing numbers of consumers in the face of shrinking natural resources; it reflects the needs of employees and destination communities; it looks beyond competitive boundaries to strike new alliances; and it recognises the need to start tackling these challenges now.

It’s a vision that understands the need to balance people, planet and profit.
