WTC offers 8 levels of ESL classes, and each level takesfour to eight weeks to complete. The length of studyvaries depending on student’s needs, but moststudents stay for a minimum of three months.General ESL classes consist of two 1.5 hour classes inthe morning. First classes are mostly focused on

grammar points and useful expressions WTC carefullyselected to improve students’ overall language ability.Second classes are designed with active conversationoriented sessions so that students can actually makeuse of what they have learn in the real life.

A placement test and oral interview are administered on the first day of each term. This placement test and interview will determine a student’s ESL level.

UPP(University Preparation Program)

This is an advanced writing course designed forstudents interested in studying at Canadianuniversities or an English-speaking university.Students will enjoy many opportunities to writeand receive constructive feedback from their peersand instructor on a number of topics. Students willalso improve their vocabulary and understandingof the dynamics of the English language.

News and MediaIn this course, students use current events to discoverlanguage and practice their speaking skills. Power TalkPower Talk is a specialized course designed forstudents who need intensive practice to sharpentheir speaking. Students take part in presentations,debates and discussions about topics relevantto them.

TOEICOur TOEIC Preparation course is designed to preparestudents to write the official TOEIC test by teachingsuccessful test taking strategies, as well asvocabulary, idioms, and grammar structures.

Students take practice TOEIC tests every Fridaymorning.

TOEFL iBTOur TOEFL iBT class is designed to help studentssucceed at the new TOEFL Internet-based test. Thistest, introduced in October 2005, requires students tonot only know the fundamentals of English grammar,but to be able to use this grammar to express ideasand opinions, respond to written or spoken English,and integrate information from a number of sources.

This test requires students to use and understandlanguage in ways never tested before, and our coursehelps students develop these important skills. Notjust for students planning to take the TOEFL iBT test,this course will help any learner of English to use andunderstand English at an advanced level. WTC is theofficial TOEFL iBT testing center.

GTP (Grammar for Test Preparation)This is an intensive 8-week grammar review coursedesigned to prepare students for the TOEFL andTOEIC class or for those who are looking for a quickreview of intermediate to advanced grammar.

As a test preparation course, GTP will help studentsby covering the basic grammatical terms andsentence structures necessary to improve your testscores..

Preparation Course for TESOL and TYCThis course will increase your confidence in Englishand prepare you for taking TESOL and TYC. It is acourse which will allow you to practice teaching skillssuch as giving clear instructions, making worksheetsfor your students and dealing with classroommanagement issues.

You will also have the opportunity to learn aboutlearning disabilities, to practice your writing and towork on your pronunciation.

Tutoring ClassesWTC offers tutoring classes for students who want toimprove their English skills even more. We understandthat our students have different needs therefore wegive them the option of choosing a tutoring class thatwill focus on: pronunciation, grammar, speaking orsimply on improving their vocabulary.

TESOL (Teaching English to Speakersof Other Languages)

This program is an intensive program designed to teach advanced levelinternational students how to teach English to speakers of otherlanguages. It combines classroom instruction in teaching theory with thepractical application of a variety of modern teaching methods to providenew language instructors with all the tools necessary to teachvocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, speaking, listening, reading andwriting in a modern ESL classroom. TYC(Teaching Young Children)This program provides new languageinstructors with all the tools necessary tomeet the needs of students in a modernESL classroom. Students will learn a widevariety of techniques and activities toeffectively meet these needs.

This program provides you with the toolsyou need to teach grammar, reading,writing, listening, and speaking to youngchildren.

This program also includes a one week,supervised practicum course at a localelementary school (subject to availability)with observation and teaching practice.

Online TESOLThe Online TESOL Program offered by Western Town College isdesigned to teach non-native speakers how to teach English in theirown countries. It is a self-paced program consisting of video lectures,assignments, two exam, and two presentations (which are performedand evaluated at the Korean office). The students and teacher(s) willcommunicate regularly via e-mail and in the online forum.

The course content is based in large part on the Western TownCollege in-house TESOL program and consists of in-depth discussionsof the theoretical aspects of teaching and learning, including (butnot limited to) the study of contemporary language teachingmethodology, theories of language acquisition, the teaching ofgrammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and the four language skills.Students will have many opportunities to put this theory intopractice by completing their assignments and presenting lessons foreach of the major components of the course.

Introduction to Translation and InterpretationThe Introduction to Translation and Interpretation Program is designed forhigh-level ESL students who want to learn the basic principles ofinterpretation and translation. Students learn about the professionof translating and interpreting and the techniques and skills required to workin these fields.

Through the practice and analysis of a variety of real-life translating andinterpreting tasks, students develop their language skills as well as anawareness of key issues in the field of Applied Linguistics.

The 12 course Hospitality Management Diplomacovers diverse subjects with a variety of courses fromFront Office operations and Food and BeverageManagement to Human Resources, HospitalityMarketing and Accounting. Students will study howall of the divisions of a hotel work together and willlearn about the duties performed by entry-level,skilled-level and management -level employees. At the completion of the program, students will havebasic marketing skills and techniques.

Business Communications The Business Communications Diploma Program isdesigned for students who wish to obtain a greaterunderstanding of business vocabulary, speaking andpresentation skills, marketing and Internet research,and business writing.

Students take two courses: Intensive BusinessCommunications and Intensive Business Talk toprovide all the essential skills needed to be able tocommunicate effectively in a business environment.

Students will learn to write clear and appropriateletters, faxes, memos, resumes and reports, whilegetting help with their language skills. They will learninterpersonal communication skills for meetings,presentations, and negotiations by being involved inactive discussions on current events, dialogues anddebates on international business issues.

Students will alternate periodsof academic learning on campus with relevant workexperience.
