Subject: WSDOT Presentation about Impacts of Little Bear Creek Culvert Replacement FINANCIAL ACTION SUMMARY
Expenditure Required Amount Budgeted/Approved Additional Amount Required
$0 $0
ISSUE: Shall the City Council receive a presentation from the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) concerning the construction options and the traffic control impacts for the Little Bear Creek Culvert Replacement Project?
RECOMMENDATION: To receive the presentation and provide comments and feed back to WSDOT staff.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION: WSDOT is designing a project to replace the existing box culvert under SR 202 ( 131 st Avenue NE) for Little Bear Creek. The existing culvert does not meet current installation guidelines for culverts on fish migratory streams. It restricts the free passage of salmon and other species that try to reach the upper sections of Little Bear Creek. They are under federal court order to replace this culvert and 800 others throughout the state. On Tuesday night, WSDOT staff will give a presentation on the options considered in replacing this box culvert and the traffic impacts of each option. WSDOT is planning to start construction of this project in 2015.
ALTERNATIVES: 1. To receive the presentation and provide comments to WSDOT about proposed traffic
control and detours for the Little bear Creek Culvert Replacement Project.
2. Request additional information.
RECOMMENDED MOTION: NO MOTION REQUIRED.
