    RATIONALE

In the Lord of the Flies, the story is about a group of children that were

stranded on an uninhabited island. At rst, it is seen that the children were

able to maintain order. Not long after, conict stirred between the boys as

they started forming two clans, helmed by Ralph and ac!. "he conict build

up led to a series of unfortunate e#ents that in#ol#es death. "he story ends

with the remaining children of the island being rescued by a trim cruiser.

I chose to focus on the beast as it plays a big role in shaping the

mentality of the children. "he truth of the beast will be con#eyed from

$imon%s perspecti#e in a form of a diary. "his is logical because, only $imon

disco#ered the real gure of the &beast'. A diary is one of the best ways for

$imon to e(press his opinion as he is nds it di)cult to spea! in a crowd.

$imon wrote this entry during the inter#al of disco#ering the truth about the

    beast and his death.

"his diary entry will highlight the $imon%s e(perience in unra#eling the

mystery of the beast, the truth about the beast and as well as briey

recalling his encounter with "he Lord of "he Flies. "he style chosen for this

assignment is informal as a diary is more personal. "he style of written

speech of $imon will sound more insightful than his peers due to his style of

    thin!ing.

    WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT

    Dear Diary,

Finally. It all makes sense now. Everything seems to be laid out in front of

my eyes. Sometimes not all of the things we are scared about are real. It could

just be our imagination. Most of us are afraid of the beast. Esecially the littluns.

!ctually, I was scared of the beast, even though I don"t believe it. I didn"t know

what it was. #ut that was then. $ow, I am no longer afraid. #ecause, I finally found

    out the truth.

!t first, one of the littluns comlained that there was a beast somewhere in

the island that looked like a snake. !nd then other members of the started getting

scared and felt unsafe. %alh tried to calm everyone down by saying that there was

no beast but &ack just said that they should just go hunt down the beast. I

ersonally do not believe that the beast is real. 'o make everyone feel safer, I

heled %alh in building a shelter for the grou.

(hen the twins first e)lained about their sight the beast, it seems like the

figure was furry, scary, had wings and was following them. If that is true, then

Samneric would have already been caught by it. #ut they weren"t. I find that hard

to believe. Somehow, when I think of the beast I see a icture of a human at once

heroic and sick. 'urns out, what I discovered was different from what they said. I

was right all along. First of all, the beast was not even alive. In fact, it was not

even a beast at all. It was a dead man in a arachute. Everyone was too afraid to

get close to the beast to even know what it was. I don"t know how I found the

courage to even get close to it. #ut, I"m glad I did. I saw a humed thing staring

down at me from above. I hid my face, but I carried on, as I was curious* 'hat"s

when I found out the truth. 'he beast that everyone is terrified of was just a

dead body. !t that moment, I reali+ed how foolish we were.

owever, I am still ever so afraid about what has haened before I met

the dead arachutist. I am still traumati+ed by my e)erience encountering with

the ig head on a stick. !t the moment it felt like the ig actually talked to me. I

was scared. !m I just imagining things, or what he said to me was real- e said

that he was the beast. Is he even real- I can still hear him say, aren"t you afraid

of me little boy-/ with that dark and dee voice. (hy did he ask such 0uestions-

1ould it be that my mind is laying tricks on me- 'hose white teeth and dim eyes,

the blood silled at his sides, and his face. I will never forget them. e stared at

me with those red bloody eyes and gave me a grin on his face. e said 2ou knew

    didn"t you- 'hat I am art of you-/ 1lose, close, close****/,

    (hat. Does. It. Mean.

(ait. $ow"s not the right time to think about this. I should save u my thoughts on

the conversation some other time. (hat"s imortant right now is I have to inform

%alh, &ack, 3iggy and the others that the beast does not e)ist fast* 3erhas that

will lighten u the mood and make everyone less scared.
