How does this work?
● The final exam for Writing IV calls for you to prepare, compose, and post advice for repeaters and successors. ○ This slideshow explains the exam, and
presents foci for preparing written advice. ■ You will need to post your advice in individual
comments on posts earmarked for them, on the Writing Studio Blog (WSBlog). ● You should post only once.
○ Please read all of these slides carefully and completely before you begin to write.

General instructions (1)
● Read all instructions completely before you begin writing;○ Follow all instructions
carefully.● Plan, organize, and
draft your written responses carefully;○ Use the Foci for
Advice map and the four slides following it as a guide.
● Compose paragraph-length (multiple sentence) responses to at least the first three of the four items.
● Respond as completely and write as accurately as possible in the time allowed (one hour).

● Combine your responses in a short multi-paragraph essay.
● Finish your essay in time to double-check and correct both grammar and spelling, ○ before you post it.
● Post your essay in a comment on the Writing Studio Blog, according to the instructions for your class (slide 10).
● Report any technical problems to your instructor immediately.

● Realistic expectations can smooth the transition from Writing I-II (1st year) to Writing III-IV (2nd year).○ Think back to when you entered Writing III-
IV. Consider expectations you had – about both courses – that either matched what happened, or did not.■ Use your experience to predict in general, for
repeaters and successors, what to expect in the way of challenges and opportunities in 2nd year writing courses.
