S4C has chosen to broadcast two live FAW Welsh Cup Round Four matches over successive weekends in the

    New Year.

A week before the conference date for the round, on Saturday 25th January 2014, Sgorio will show the clash

between two North East Wales FA clubs; Bala Town v Cefn Druids at Maes Tegid.

Until recent weeks, the Lakesiders have struggled for consistency and form this season and have only recently

climbed out of the bottom two of the Corbett Sports Welsh Premier League. It's a different story for the Druidsthough who have topped the Huws Gray Alliance for almost the entire season. Huw Griffiths' side, who reached

the Final two seasons ago, have won fourteen of their seventeen league games, they remain unbeaten and have

scored 54 goals, conceding just seven.

The following week, the live S4C cameras will be at Richmond Park, Carmarthen to show a clash between two

former cup winners, Carmarthen Town from 2006-07 hosting 2011-/12 winners The New Saints, with a 17:15

    kick off.

The match is a repeat of the 2004-05 final, when TNS defeated the Old Gold at Stebonheath Park, courtesy of a

    solitary John Lawless goal.

The only player from the Town team that day to still be involved at the club is Neil Smothers, who is the

assistant manager. Whilst in the Saints team that day, Mike Wilde, who is the Welsh Premier's joint-top scorer

this season started the match, as did Steve Evans and Scott Ruscoe who are both still on the Saints books, butcurrently on the long-term injured list.

The winners will book a spot in the last eight and a result is guaranteed on the day, with the possibility of extra-

    time and penalties..

    Saints and Aber sequences

end on Friday nightThe New Saints dropped their first home point ofthe season to Bala Town on Friday night and

conceded their first home goal of the season.Former Saints star Connall Murtagh ended their

run of fifteen consecutive home winsa League

    record.

    Aberystwyth Towns ten-month unbeaten home

run also went on Friday night as a late ChadBond goal gave Port Talbot Town a 2-1 win at

    Park Avenue

    A very merry

    Christmas

    and a happy,

    healthy and

    successful

JDs WEBSITE REVIEWCARMARTHEN TOWN www.carmarthentownfc.orgIt is with a great deal of pleasure that I have watched Carmarthen Towns ground at Richmond Park

improve so much, which culminated in the club hosting games in the UEFA Under 19 Womens

Championships in August. As part of my duties hosting one of the Match Delegates, I was fortunate

enough to go to one of the aforementioned games and was not surprised to witness the excellent workundertaken by all at the club to ensure that the event was a resounding success. Since then their

performances in the Corbett Sports Welsh Premier League have been generally successful and they look

set for a top six place in January.

As has always been the case during this series, I entered the website with open minded optimism. I was

initially confronted with a bi-lingual Welcome Page where I found details of the next match. I was also

happy to see that approaching Christmas, the Club Shop offered late opening. Continuing in the festive

spirit, I was informed that the Christmas Dinner will be held on 22nd December, but on further

investigation found I was too late to book.

I was invited to enter the site and found a Home Page that has a series of up to date news items with

photographs. Pre-match hospitality has long been a feature at Richmond Park and details of what is

available and how to book was easily accessible, as was the up to date Tote Results. I was really happyto see that the user can easily access the online shopping facility.

Moving on to the Community Page, I was disappointed that the headline was over two weeks out of

date. However, there are details of activities and a calendar where I found that I could attend a number

of spiritualist meetings in the Clubhouse as well as the local Slimming Club.

The Fixtures Page was fine with an up to date list with scores, and reports on matches from the

Carmarthen Journal. I was, however, a tad disappointed to find that the list of Academy players was out

of date. The First Team Squad with photographs and brief Pen Pictures of most of the players is the main

feature. There are also details of the ground and most importantly travel instructions for both road and

    rail.

There is a page dedicated to the Club Shop with pictures of a wide range of merchandise, to adequately

cater for local Christmas Stockings. Finally, I found the Commercial

Page, which gives prominence to Club Sponsors, but I did feel that

these could also be featured on the Welcome or Home Pages.

All in all,www.carmarthentownfc.orgis quite a pleasing site that I

enjoyed visiting. While it certainly wasnt the best that I have

reviewed in this series, it only needs some minor tweaks to challenge for

    honours..

He added that another 3 points should be enough to seal a top 6 place at the split, which would have exceeded theclubs target at the start of the season, following the changes he had to make to the squad. He was equally delighted that Michael Johnston, Anthony Miley and Declan Walker had signed extensions totheir contracts with the club.

CARMARTHEN TOWN www.carmarthentownafc.comAuthor Chris Harte has had his latest book Old Gold : A Season with Carmarthen Town, nominated for the2013/14 British Sports Book of the Year Award."I was absolutely amazed to receive the news that the book had been nominated in the category of 'Best FootballBook of the Year,' he said. "It is quite some time since I last had a book nominated for any Award and I feel thatthis is more a gesture towards Carmarthen Town Football Club than anything else."

The Awards, which are sponsored by The Times newspaper, have been held for the past twelve years and willculminate this year with a presentation dinner to be held at Lord's Cricket Ground next May.This year's winner was the book Barca : The Making of the Greatest Team in the world by Graham Hunter."Football is a great leveller," said Harte. "Last year the short-list was dominated by publications about Barcelona. This year the name of Carmarthen Town takes its place.""I must thank the book buying public of Carmarthenshire who have been kind enough to purchase my scribblings. The first print run sold out a couple of months ago and now a second printing has been distributed for theChristmas rush. Waterstones in Guildhall Square have made a splendid effort in promoting the book and copiesare available from their shop."Harte added: "What has surprised me have been the places in the world where copies have been sold. From thelibrary of the University of Illinois in Chicago, to Johannesburg in South Africa and even to a sports book dealer

in Melbourne, Australia, all now have Old Gold on their shelves."

Following the 0-2 defeat at Rhyl A Carmarthen Town spokesman said "In a fraction under two years, managerMark Aizlewood has completely transformed the playing side of our club,""Not only has he recruited well but the players he has brought into the club have responded to his philosophy.Aided by his assistant Neil Smothers and recently also by rookie coach Craig Hughes, Aizlewood has blended

together a squad of both young and experienced players."The spokesman added: "Although recent results have not gone the way of the Old Gold there is no panic within

the ranks. Work commitments, injuries and suspensions have meant readjustments with the team formation butAizlewood is confident that Carmarthen will finish in the top six by the time the WPL splits into its two mid-season phases."

gap CONNAHS QUAY www.the-nomads.co.ukgap Connah's Quay are pleased to announce that Chris Herbert has returned to

Deeside Stadium as part of the first team coaching staff.Chris recently departed his role as First Team Manager at Conwy Borough,

Director of Football Mark McGregor said; "As soon as Chris left Conwy, I feltit was just what the club needed - he joins the club at the right time and heboosts our great back room team."Speaking on his return to Deeside Stadium, Chris commented, saying; "I amdelighted to be back at The Nomads. Everyone knows what I think of the club

and as soon as Mark gave me the opportunity to come in, it was one I couldn'tturn down. "Mark is a good friend of mine and if I can help him and the club get back to winning ways, then I am

happy to help."As an ex-player, I know the club and most of the current players inside out - the hard work starts straight awaywith our aim still to get into the Top 6. If we don't achieve that then 7th spot is a bare minimum."We've got 3 or 4 quality additions lined up to add some competition to the squad and we are more than capableof reaching the Europa League playoffs again. Although the last eight results have not gone according to plan, Iam more than confident that we can turn it around and quickly move back up the table."Nomads boss McGregor was glad to have gained a point against Prestatyn on Friday

"I am delighted to stop the rot."The lads were very happy after the game, they were happy with the performance and to not lose.

"There are mixed emotions when you are 2-0 up with 15 minutes to go, but we couldn't kick it out of our own halfdue to the wind."

NEWTOWN AFC www.newtownafc.co.ukMIDFIELDER Matt Cook believes his side can start the festive periodwith a bang. Newtown take on Airbus this weekend, before back to backgames against champions The New Saints. And Cook is confident his side can pick up the three points this weekend."I think we can get three points yes. All over the park at the moment you

can't say anyone is having a bad game so hopefully we can take thatforward into Airbus on Saturday," said the midfielder.Newtown have lost just two of their last 13 games in all competitions, and Cook believes that run combined with the fact the Robins sit just oneplace behind the wingmakers in third is a credit to how far they havecome."It is definitely full credit to our players. Compared to last year we havecome on leaps and bounds, and I think it is two defeats in 13 now sohopefully we can keep that going," added Cook. But the midfielder is under no illusions to how big the task is going to be on Saturday, and has labelled it as theirtoughest test of the season so far.

"I think it will be the toughest yet. They are good side but we will go in full confidence and with no fear after the

run that we have been on," said Cook. The game against Airbus is followed by a boxing day fixture at Latham Park against Craig Harrison's New Saints. And then the Robins see in the new year with trips to the Saints, Afan Lido and Prestatyn. And Cook believes that unless teams around them start picking up points, the side can make the top six.

"Hopefully we can make it come the end of January, unless teams around us start picking up points. The next fewgames are against the top two sides, but if we keep playing like we are then we can pick up the points," added

Cook. After their thrilling televised match in atrocious conditions on Saturday manager Ian Hughes was happy with apoint:

In the first half we were under pressure and Airbus were excellent. They played off the first and second

ball but we showed our strength and came through it, said Hughes.

He added, Craig getting the goal in half time was good for us to go in with. And for 15 to 20 minutes

we knocked at the door, got the goal from AJ. With the chances we created were disappointed not to get

three points but happy to get one against a side like Airbus.

Hughes also spoke about his side being sky high despite the point, 'the squad is already confident. We've

been doing things right and the game is a boost against a good Airbus side under Andy Preece. And it is

a good start going into games against TNS.

Credit goes to both sets of players in tough conditions on that pitch, and to our players who lost to them

earlier in the season and showed character when 2-0 down as we could have folded. But we showed our

metal and were unlucky not to convert out chances.

'I can't work out if results have gone for us because everyone is beating everyone at the moment. Now

we just need to keep going as we are and pick up as many points as possible.'

"The players have donated money towards the presents and we are greatful to Ady Williams, Area Manager ofHome Bargains, for their kind support in donating over 200 worth of presents and Dave Mclave of TescoPrestatyn for donating 80 selection boxes.

As an extra special treat for the youngsters, the Town players also took the FAW Welsh Cup with them forchildren to have their photos with. The Welsh Premier League would like to thank Jack and his colleagues at Prestatyn Town for taking time to visit

the children's ward. The work that our clubs are contributing within their communities is highly commendable.Football has the power to really make a difference and in this case, it has certainly raised a smile for the poor, sick

children in Glan Clwyd.Following Towns draw at Connahs Quay on Friday, Towns director of football said: I felt we controlled the

majority of the game and should have won it comfortably. The way things were panning out, I thought it was going to be another one of those days for us, and at least weshowed the character to fight back.

Playing into the wind in the first half, we could easily have been ahead with Lee Hunt missing a one-on-one andAndy Parkinson and Jack Lewis both hitting the post. However, we gave away two very bad goals and the whole game summed up our season in that we didnt takeour chances and got punished for our mistakes. Were running out of time fast to make the top six and Id have to say were an outside bet now.

Its something we feel very strongly about andif we can put a smile on the childrens faces then obviously

its all worthwhile..Greg Strong was over the moon with the improvement shown since last week after their 2-0 win over CarmarthenTown. "We were disappointed last week but I've been pleased with the way we have handled this season."Today was a fantastic performance and it was night and day from last week."We knew it was going to be a shift against the wind but we went to win the game and the lads got their rewardsfor the hard work they put in.

"To be successful we needed that foundation which was a clean sheet. Also the lads put their bodies on the line. They were brave, they were big, they were strong when they needed tobe and I always thought we were a threat on the counter attack."Every game in this league is tough and every teamis similar, so we have got to apply ourselves in the same way."Mentally we have got to be prepared exactly the same as we were today and we have got to be prepared to putour bodies on the line like we did today."

THE NEW SAINTS FC www.tnsfc.co.ukHaving helped to guide The New Saints to another win on Friday evening, Director of Football, Craig Harrison

has spoken about his sides incredible home record, which has seen the Saints win every home game this season. They have also scored 32 goals and even more remarkably; they are still yet to concede a single goal at home thisseason.

Harrison is happy with how his team are playing and said; "We are very strong at home and the reason we aredoing so well is down to our hard work. We work very hard every day in training and the players are respondingto everything I want. We are as fit as we have ever been, we are a tight group with players that want to work hardfor each other and we have a really good squad that is full of ability."Harrison was delighted that his team kept another clean sheet but would rather win games, than try and protect thewonderful record;"It is great that we are keeping clean sheets but the result is more important. We are always looking ahead to ournext game and we know that we must remain focused.TNS Home Record: Played 9 - Won 9 - Goals For 32 - Goals Against 0"We would never try and protect our clean sheet record instead of trying to win a game as winning is what it is allabout. I dont mind winning by two goals to one or three goals to two but I will never go into any game trying todraw nil nil, just so that we can preserve our defensive record."

TNS will now face two important league games prior to Christmas. The Oswestry based side will then play theirfinal game before Christmas, entertaining Bala Town on Friday the 20th of December.Meanwhile the whole TNS squad visited the Alice Ward at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt OrthopedicHospital last week. The players handed out presents to the excited children as well as signing autographs for them. The Alice Ward is the childrens orthopaedic surgery and rehabilitation ward at the RJAH Orthopaedic Hospital. The ward takes care of children up to the age of 16.

    15/17

THE LAST WORD from Gwyn DerfelAs Secretary of our National League -one of the most pleasing aspects of 2013 has been the

development of Newtown as a force on the field of play once again.

Although the Robins had obvious raw talent last season they werent streetwise enough to turn good

performances into enough points. However this season, the team moulded by Bernie McNally and

further encouraged by Chris Hughes are currently in fourth position and fully deserve to be where they

are. Their style of football is attractive of course but in terrible conditions against Airbus on Saturday

they showed true grit and character to claw back a two goal deficit and claim another valuable point

    against a very good side.

Andy Preece complimented Newtown after the game and noted again that the standard of the League is

getting better and betterand thats what we all want of course.

On Saturday as well Bangor claimed a late three points to take them into third position but in the

long term an announcement which was made prior to kick-off at the Book People will have an even

greater impact on the future of the club.

The green light has been given for further development at Nantporth which will include a brand new 3G

pitch in the car park area. The FAW has invested 350,000 in the project and further financial input from

the University and other local partners have enabled the dream to become a reality.Im convinced that this development will further engage the local club and community and it can also

generate commercial income which can offer the business further financial sustainability which is of

course essential to all of our clubs. Fans should recognise Dilwyn Joness tireless efforts to drive this

project - and we all wish this first of many WPL 3G initiatives the very best of luck.

So it seems that Father Christmas has come to Bangor a few days early. I genuinely hope that you all

have a happy festive period and thank you all for your support for our National League during 2013.

Y GAIR OLAF gan Gwyn Derfel
