ASI Review Padova ICC Contribution 2
Testing of Astronomical Observing Templates (i.e. Observing Modes) for optimizing the execution of observations of extragalactic surveys both in Guaranteed Time and Open Time Key Programs
PACS : AOT Testing(Rodighiero)
A scan mapping strategy with perpendicular “cross-linked”
scans is adopted to homogeneously cover the field and remove correlated noise
during data reduction

(PEP) Guaranteed Time Key Program
ASI Review Padova ICC Contribution 3
Instrument Simulator Testing activities included:– Instrument Simulator Testing: step by step validation of the PACS
Simulator – Simulator applications: production of synthetic input skies to support
the preparation of Open Time Key Programs with the PACS simulator example of a deep extragalactic field without and with the effect of a lensing cluster along the line of sight
100 m without lensing - 100 m with lensing

SPIRE : Pipeline Development & Testing(Mainetti & Vaccari)
“Photometer Background” Pipeline Module Leadership : developing software for modeling & removing telescope background from photometer bolometer timelines
“Visualization Tools” Leadership : developing software for interactive visualization and manipulation of bolometer timelines such as the Detector Timeline Explorer
Pipeline Software Integration, Testing & Debugging : solving Software Problem Reports (SPRs) and implementing Software Change Requests (SCRs) via a centralized on-line reporting system as well as dedicated telecons and meetings for pipeline End-To-End tests at SPIRE Data Centers & ESA sites

SPIRE : Detector Timeline Explorer(Mainetti & Vaccari)
The Detector Timeline Explorer is a Graphical User Interface allowing interactive visualization and manipulation of bolometer timelines along the SPIRE pipeline
– Main window displays fluxes over full bolometer arrays at any chosen time according to a color scale while a slider allows for browsing along the timeline
– Clicking on any given bolometer within the main window creates zoom-in interactive Flux vs Time plots allowing a closer inspection of problem bolometers and instrumental features and flagging for follow-up

SPIRE DP System Documentation & Testing(Mainetti & Rodighiero & Vaccari)
Our contribution to the Herschel (& SPIRE) Data Processing (DP) System (jointly developed by ESA and three instrument consortia) has spanned:
– Representing SPIRE within ESA-led Herschel DP Users Group, providing feedback on DP system development and representing SPIRE at dedicated DP telecons & meetings
– Leading SPIRE DP Users Group & SPIRE Documentation Editorial Board, overseeing development of and providing feedback on SPIRE DP system and its documentation and arranging DP system training sessions for SPIRE team members
– Defining & testing JIDE & HIPE Graphical User Interfaces (the graphical front end that will be presented to the general Herschel user) and ensuring they are user-friendly
SPIRE Quick Look Analysis Graphical
User Interface : allowing command-line & interactive data reduction &
analysis, currently based on the JIDE
GUI but now moving toward using the
HIPE GUI
