The Rev. Cassandra Young Marcus, a native of Dothan,

Alabama serves as the Co-Pastor at Turner Chapel African

Methodist Episcopal Church in Marietta, Georgia where her

husband and partner in ministry, the Rev. Kenneth Edward

Marcus is the Senior Pastor. In her capacity as Co-Pastor, Rev.

Marcus, affectionately called Rev. Cassandra, demonstrates her

love of spiritual teaching by acting as a full-time resource for

Turner’s ministerial growth and development. Over the years,

she has done everything from proofreading the church bulletin to revamping the Church at Study

program. Once Rev. Cassandra identifies a need, she works hard to develop a solution. For

example, she developed the new member’s ministry to accommodate the growth and better organize

the way that the church meets the needs of those who are new to Turner Chapel.

Furthermore, she cast the vision, supervised, and provided support for the development of

the Regarding Women’s Ministry. Rev. Cassandra initiated the pastoral care ministry and was

influential in securing a full-time counselor. She continues to offer pastoral care to those in need

and leads premarital sessions for couples. Rev. Cassandra restructured the Church at Study (Bible

Study), tripling the attendance. She is implementing S.H.A.P.E., a ministry which will enable

members of the congregation to discover how God has uniquely shaped and designed them for

ministry.

Rev. Cassandra often ministers outside of Turner Chapel. She participated in the church’s

WMS Mission Project in Kingston, Jamaica. She encouraged and supported the mission team,

helped to renovate the computer center, assisted in the refurbishing and organizing the library at the

children’s home. Notably, Rev. Cassandra was the first Director of Christian Education employed

full-time by the Sixth Episcopal District. In addition, she serves as workshop leader, guest preacher,

program planner, and retreat presenter spreading the word of God in response to God’s call.

Rev. Cassandra has prepared herself for Christian ministry. She completed her field

education in Christian Education at St. Matthew A.M.E. Church, Philadelphia and an internship with

the Georgia Youth Empowerment Team designing retreats for youth in the Episcopal Church, the

Disciples of Christ, and the United Church of Christ. She received her undergraduate degree from

Morris Brown College in Philosophy and Religion. She earned the Master of Religious Education

from Duke University Divinity School and later matriculated at Emory University, Candler School

of Theology, receiving her Master of Divinity degree.

September, 2012 Greetings to all and welcome to our 2012 Annual Women’s Day Program: What an awesome God we serve! It is a blessing to say that I’ve found absolute joy in serving as your “Women’s Enrichment Ministry Leader” for the past five years. I respectfully and joyously pass the torch to Rev. Tammy Watson as she continues to take the women of Allen Temple to another level and keep the fire going in women’s ministry. This years’ retreat and Women’s Day Program is significant in that it brings us to a “spiritual” focal point of why we must have Radical Faith. Our 2012 retreat theme “Radical Faith” requires “Hearing, Obeying, Moving”; Matthew 15:28 is one that has taught us that God talks to us every day. We must create the at-mosphere in our hearts, minds and souls to hear, obey and move when He speaks to us. Most importantly we must know when it is His voice that is speaking. We are also grateful to our visiting sisters for sharing in this week-end’s retreat, as well as our Women’s Day program today. In closing, may God sustain and keep you as you continue to learn to have Radical Faith through hearing, obeying, and moving when you hear God’s voice speaking to you.

Peace, Love and God’s Blessings,

Mirian S. McGhee Women’s Enrichment Outgoing Chairperson Allen Temple Church, Woodstock, GA.
