The Pastor’s PageThe Pastor’s Page What Love means to
a 4-8 year olds... A group of people posed this question, “What does love mean?” The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined. “When my grandmother got arthritis , she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails
anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time , even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love.” “When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.” “Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs.” “Love is what makes you smile when you're tired.” “Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK.” “Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.” “If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate.” “Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who
are still friends even after they know each other so well.” “My mommy loves me more than anybody. You don't see any-one else kissing me to sleep at night.” “Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken.” “Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day.” “You really shouldn't say 'I love you' unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget.” Upon see-ing a widowed man cry, a little boy went into the old gentle-man's yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there. When his Mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said, “Nothing, I just helped him cry.”
“This is love, not that
we loved God but that
he loved us and sent his
Son to be the atoning
sacrifice for our sins.”

Another Adult Sunday
School Class coming
your way!
“Teach us how to pray," the disciples said to
Jesus. (Luke 11, 1). He answered by teaching
them the prayer we call the Our Father or The
Lord's Prayer, also found in Matthew 6, vs. 9.
The Lord's Prayer is a basis for Christian
prayer, a model for prayer - I’m sure, all of us
have learned it by heart.
The Lord’s Prayer: comprised of some 70
words. We recite it each Sunday, we teach it to
our children, & we’ve all prayed it often. But I
have to ask: Do we “mechanically“ recite it -
pretty much without much understanding or
without being very sincere?
In my life anyway, I think so, & I never
liked that feeling. The Lord’s Prayer
was so important to Jesus…
I had hoped to find a good video based class room presentation that would give us some
insight on the words of the Lord’s Prayer. Although, I did not find one, I did find
commentary & some very good books with interesting views of what each of the lines
of the prayer mean, - an explanation… exactly what I was looking for.
I’ve tried to consolidate “the best” of what I found into (6) - 35 minute
long sessions - that I will simply be reading to you.
Interested in hearing what I’ve found?
I’m planning on starting this “lecture” series on April 15th.
I’m looking at meeting for 6 Sundays, each only 35 minutes long.
With this class, we’ll start 10 minutes later - a few extra minutes
for fellowship around a cup of coffee - so no excuses if you are late!
Starting promptly at 9:40, ending at 10:15.
Looking forward to seeing you there… Jim Plumley, 706-231-4389
Please sign up on the inserts in the Sunday bulletins or the table in the Narthex.
Easter Feaster 2012 Our annual Easter Feaster Brunch will be held after sunrise service in the Fellowship Hall on Easter Sunday! See you there!
Senior Citizen Council Dinner & Silent Auction Tuesday, May 1st from 5:30pm—7:30pm. Tickets are available from Terrie Bentle & cost $20. Make checks out to the Senior Citizens Council. Dinner will be catered by Shane’s Rib Shack.
April Catch the Spirit Wednesday, April 18th 6:15pm Theme: Cuisine of Kenya . Hosted by: Service Board. We will explore the culture & cuisine of Kenya while learning about the Massai Tribe in Mwangaza. Special presentation given by Matthew Schafer & Kenyan native Eli Okeyo.
WORLD HUNGER REMINDER Our ELCA World Hunger Appeal Drive ends on Easter Sunday, April 8. Filled Barnyard coin banks should be placed in the designated basket located in the Narthex. Do not place filled banks in the offering plate. If you want credit on your Church contribution record you should write your name and envelope number on the bank. There are still Barnyard Banks available in the Narthex. Please feel free to take one and support this very worthy cause. Contributions may also be made by using your offering envelopes and checking "World Hunger" and entering the amount you are contributing. The Service Board wishes to thank you for your support again this year.
2012 PROJECTS Throughout 2012 we will continue collecting plastic grocery bags, old prescription and reading glasses and any extra hotel size toiletries. Please start saving aluminum pop tops and bring them in once a month. They will be passed on to 4-H members who collect them in support of the Ronald McDonald House. Simply place any of these items on the service board table outside the adult Sunday School classroom. In 2012 we will facilitate collecting and assembling Personal Care Kits for Lutheran World Relief. These kits will include: One light-weight bath size towel (maximum size 52”x27”), two bath-size bars of soap (4 to 5 oz.) in original wrapping, one adult size toothbrush, one sturdy comb, and one metal nail clipper. All items must be new, not used. Anything you can contribute to this effort is appreciated. If you prefer to make a monetary donation, we will use that to apply towards the shipping cost of $2.65 per kit. In support of Joyce Steiner’s granddaughter’s high school project, we are crocheting or knitting bandages for victims of Hansen’s Disease in Vietnam. The directions are posted on the bulletin board in the Nar-thex. The goal is 100 pairs of these bandages. Please consider supporting this; even one pair will help her realize her goal. The deadline for turning in completed bandages is April 15th. Thanks for your help!
Are you are gardener? Have extra “fruits of your labor” or are willing to plant an ex-tra row or plant? If so, Ample Harvest can put you in contact with a food pantry in your area. The website is www.ampleharvest.org. It is easy to navigate for you to register as a contributor. GAP food pantry is registered as needing any produce you are willing to donate.
April’s Catch the Spirit will be hosted by the Service Board and we are planning an unusual and informa-tive event centered around the Republic of Kenya. Dinner will be April 18th. Watch the Narthex bulletin board for more information. Bring a sense of adventure with you as you experiment with new tastes and foods!

“For I was hungry and you fed me, I was thirsty and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home.” Matt 25:35
Thanks to all the volunteers for sharing their time, energy and friendliness with our guests during Interfaith week. Volunteers set up the Sunday School rooms, made beds, prepared great meals, and made
our families feel welcome. Overnight hosts spent the night at the church and helped get families on the bus at 6:30 in the morning. It really was
a great week and without the volunteers it couldn't be done. Again thanks, Advent, for your support.

According to the World Health Organization “Each year, two million people die from waterborne diseases and billions more suffer ill-ness—most are children under five.” A safe, reliable water supply is at our fingertips. That’s why it’s so easy for us to forget just how precious water really is and how heavily we all rely on it. Where there is water, there is life! Along with Lutheran World Relief, Advent Youth is fundraising & collecting donations to build a well for those without access to clean water. We invite you to help us fill our big water jar to build a well through LWR.
