LOCATION

IMPORTANT LADMARKARKS- Worli fort Worli Costguard PERCENTAGE Commercial zone-30% Residential zone-70% It is well known for its fish market. Floating population is very less. Maximum people using the Public toilets belong to the community itself.

The contours of the site reduces towards the coast. The village is very dense but there are open spaces towards the cape where the fishing activities happen Most of the people living there are converted christians and the main occupation is fishing. Majority of the people fall in lower middle class and below poverty line.

SITE CONTEXT

Common public utilities like temples, churches, playgrounds, fort lie within the community area. Presently there are no urbanization plans and there is no govt. proposal for enhancement The toilet is crucial since the people there rely completely on the public toilets for sanitation requirementas

USERS •It is a Koliwada,where koli people live,many of the people are converted christians. •Class of people in Koliwada ranges from bussinessmen to workers and labourers. •Ratio of men to female is 60%-40%. •The are schools which are near the koliwada.The open spaces are dedicated for activities related to fishing,but used by children as play area. •There are no facilities for handicaps and senior citizens for sanitation. •The

SERVICES •There are no septic tanks. •There are small concrete window jalis provided in each toilet for ventilation. •1 liter of water used by people who deficate on the sea shore,and approximately 3-4 liters for the people using public toilets. •All the pipes and taps are exposed,some of them are rusted and many leakages from both supply and waste water pipes. •The water pressure is low and no flusing facilities. •Some of the houses along the coast have their soil pipes exposed on the sea facing façade and they are let out open in the sea.

AESTHETICS There are signages but not adequate. They are not well planned The structures are made in rcc and bricks and asbestos cement roofing sheets. There is a very few vegetation on site. There is sufficient day lighting. The toilets ,urinals and there positions are not comfortable.

ECONOMIC CONSIDERATIONS Onwed by either bmc or political organizations. People in the vicinity maintain it and the mostly the person who lives nearby is appointed. There is no revenue generating system coz whatever little money they get is gone in maintainance.

OPPORTIUNITIES THREATS

•There is BMC water supply connections and Main Sewer line. •75% of the people have their own toilets in their houses •Every mornig people from bmc come and clean up the garbage

•People opt for common toilets instead of their own. •People defecate on the sea shore. Both ladies have alloted different areas on the shore which are let out on the sea shore •Some houses have open soil pipes.

•Threat of disease spreading and pollution of water and the shore.

There are lot of open spaces where we can locate public toilets
