What is Insurance Excess?

Most car rental rates include basic insurance – Collision Damage

Waiver Insurance (CDW), Third Party Liability and Theft Protection (TP).

In the event that a rental vehicle is stolen or accidently damaged

(whether the driver is at fault or not), Insurance Excess is charged.

The Insurance Excess is the maximum amount the renter is liable for.

The cost varies depending on supplier, country and vehicle type but

it can range from EUR500 to over EUR1,800 in France.

DriveAway Hire Car Excess Insurance is an optional product offered

by DriveAway Holidays to refund the excess amount charged by the

car rental supplier in the event of an accident on your return home.

WHY CHOOSE DRIVEAWAY HIRE

CAR EXCESS INSURANCE?

For between AUD6.50-8.50 per day, you will be covered for the

supplier’s damage and theft excess costs incurred locally. Should the

local supplier charge you the excess amount on the vehicle, you may claim up to AUD5,000 through DriveAway Holidays* when you

return to Australia.


FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSHow much does DriveAway Hire Car Excess Insurance cover?You will be reimbursed up to AUD5,000 of the damage and theft excess amount charged by the car rental supplier in the event of damage or theft of the vehicle.

Is the daily rate charged for every rental day?Yes. The charge is between AUD6.50-8.50 per day depending on the car group.

I have paid for DriveAway Hire Car Excess Insurance. The car rental supplier states that they have never heard of it and insist I take out their damage and theft excess cover. Should I take out their excess cover as well?DriveAway Hire Car Excess Insurance is an agreement between you and DriveAway Holidays. Supplier excess reduction options may be available directly from a supplier at an additional cost. If the renter accepts any excess reduction offered by the supplier they are not entitled to a refund from DriveAway Holidays, Accident & Health International Underwriting Pty Ltd or CGU Insurance Limited.

Is my credit card still frozen at the time of collecting the vehicle if I take DriveAway Hire Car Excess Insurance?Yes. The full excess amount will be charged in the case of theft or damage, however the amount is recoverable up to AUD5,000 from DriveAway Holidays provided all claim conditions are met on your return home.

How do I make a claim?To claim excess charges you must provide the following to DriveAway Holidays:

• Rental Agreement with the drivers name matching that of the DriveAway Voucher.

• A completed claim form. You can obtain a claim from by visiting www.driveaway.com.au or emailing [email protected]

• A police report (if applicable).

• An accident report or theft report from the car rental supplier (if applicable).

• A receipt of the excess being charged by the supplier and a copy of the clients credit card.

• The repairer’s invoice which confirms the final repair costs (DriveAway Holidays will assist you to obtain this). Upon receipt of the above forms, DriveAway Holidays will assess your claim.

Do I get a full or partial refund if I don’t make a claim?No, once the rental has commenced, DriveAway Hire Car Excess Insurance is non-refundable.

Do I need DriveAway Hire Car Excess Insurance if I have travel insurance?We recommend you check your travel insurance policy to ensure you are sufficiently covered.

- In common with most car rental suppliers, DriveAway Hire Car Excess Insurance does not cover damage to windows, wheels, tyres, the roof, underside & interior of the vehicle, towing chargesor damage/theft caused negligently, willfully or recklessly.

- DriveAway Hire Car Excess Insurance does not cover claims where the vehicle (including 4 wheel drives) is taken off road or on unsealed surfaces.

- DriveAway Hire Car Excess Insurance does not cover driver negligence whereby the driver is under the influence of alcohol or other substances. In addition, the driver of the vehicle must meet the requirements of the car rental supplier.

- Theft covers the vehicle only, not personal contents.- In the event that keys are lost and/or damaged you will be liable for replacement costs. Further costs may

be applicable if the lost keys are directly related to the theft of the vehicle.- Supplier excess reduction options may be available directly from a supplier at an additional cost.

USA 5 TOP DRIVES

Highway 1, CaliforniaIf you’re heading to California, consider taking one of the most scenic drives, Los Angeles to San Francisco. Heading north west out of LA, Highway 1 (or the Pacific Coast Scenic Highway as it’s referred to at stages of the route), will take you along the beachfront of Santa Monica and through the decadent hills of Malibu Beach. Head up through Ventura County and stop at Santa Barbara. As you continue along the highway, look out for sea lion colonies and wildlife along the coast.

At picturesque Morrow Bay, once an abalone fishing port, stop off at Morro Rock - a volcanic plug. The highway takes you into the stunning coastal region of Big Sur, where the Santa Lucia Mountains abruptly meet the Pacific Ocean. The region is renowned for its giant Redwood forests and coastal views, stretching for around 140kms.

Travel across the impressive Bixby Creek Bridge, which opened in 1932 to connect the residents in winter and is one of the tallest spanning bridges in the world.

The highway then continues along the coastline of Monterey Bay, through Sand City, Seaside and Marina. A popular stop for families, Monterey Bay Aquarium is renowned for its Ocean Sunfish, along with stingrays, jelly fish and sea otters. The waterfront street of Cannery Row is a great place to dine with its many restaurants where the offshore area is home to one of the largest Californian Sea Lion colonies.

Heading further north west onto Santa Cruz and into San Francisco. There is so much to see and do in this vibrant city, but a must is to drive over the Golden Gate Bridge and visit Alcatraz. Stop off for a few days and explore the shopping, take a tram ride, dine at Fisherman’s Wharf and drive the 8 hairpin bends of Lombard Street!

Going to the Sun RoadSituated at the very top of the USA, this is one of the most breathtaking drives in North America and home to untouched scenery and wildlife. Discover all types of landscapes from windswept tundra, to cedar forests, incredible glacial lakes, and breathtaking mountains. Major highlights include the Jackson Glacier, the ‘weeping wall’, and the high point (literally)s Logan’s Pass where you can hike up to the hidden lake look-out. Going to the Sun Road is only accessible from June to mid-late October depending on the snow-fall.

The Seward HighwayLinking Anchorage with Seward it passes through some of the most spectacular scenery in Arctic United States. There are no billboards, no tollbooths, few towns, and even fewer gas stations. You can race through the drive in under three hours, however it is best to devote at least a weekend to this natural tranquility and explore some of the most appealing sights in south-central Alaska. If you’re looking for whales and waterfalls, blue glaciers and sharp-toothed mountains calm trout ponds and stormy ocean creeks, there’s enough visual here to fill a hard drive with breathtaking pictures.

Route 66One of the longest attractions in the USA, Route 66 stretches from Chicago to Los Angeles. Although it’s impossible to drive in its entirety nowadays, you can still explore parts of the highway that people describe as ‘the real America’. From old abandoned gas stations, the infamous Cadillac Ranch, the historic train station in Flagstaff, and the 9 Route 66 museums, there’s plenty to see and do. Stop off at one of the many iconic 66 roadside diners like Dell Ray’s Chicken Basket or Cozy Dog Drive for a true taste of Americana!

The Hawaiian BeltCircling Hawaii’s Big Island, the Hawaiian Belt offers a variety of landscapes such as lava flows, exotic beaches, green highlands, breathtaking mountains and plunging valleys. Immerse yourself in the Polynesian heritage and culture that landed here thousands of years ago. The best way to travel around The Belt is by car, exploring the coffee plantations of Kana, Captain Cook’s memorial and of course the active lava fields of the Hawaiian Volcano National Park.

rates vary depending on your country of origin.- The price must be a fully pre-paid rate with the same supplier

Please check at the time of booking.Drivers Qualifications: All drivers must hold a full valid drivers licence with a clean driving record for a minimum of one year. Some countries require a licence to be held for a longer period. A learner or provisional drivers licence is not accepted. An international licence is required for many countries including Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Italy, Poland and Spain. If you hold a European passport, a photocopy of your European passport, a copy of your Australian Permanent Residency or a copy of a utility bill confirming your residency which is 6 months old is also required. Late return of these documents will delay delivery of your vehicle.Vehicle: All Peugeot vehicles are left hand drive (including collections in London). The definition and/or specifications of the Peugeot vehicles displayed in this brochure are subject to change without notice.Duration: Minimum lease period is 21 days, excluding the Expert Teepee where the minimum is 40 days. Maximum 175 days. Peugeot Leasing is based on calendar days.

Additional Drivers: Additional drivers are free, however the registered driver must be in the vehicle at all times whilst the additional driver is driving. Exception: immediate family members may drive locally without the registered driver in the vehicle. Under no circumstances can the family member take the vehicle across any borders without the registered driver being in the vehicle. Immediate family members are spouse, son or daughter of the registered driver travelling under the same surname and residential address as the registered driver. All additional drivers must comply with all requirements of the lease.Fuel: All vehicles are supplied with 10-15 litres of fuel free of charge. You are not required to return the vehicle with a full tank of fuel.Vehicle Return: Before returning your vehicle, it is a requirement to call at least 4 business days prior and arrange your drop-off time, otherwise Peugeot Sodexa fees may apply.Further conditions apply, refer to www.driveaway.com.au for details. Other than in respect of goods or services supplied to consumers or goods or services that are of a kind ordinarily acquired for personal, domestic or household use or consumption, DriveAway Holidays’ liability for the breach of any condition or warranty, whether express or implied (other than warranties or conditions in relation to title, encumbrances and quiet possession) is limited, at DriveAway Holidays’ option, to:- in the case of goods; the replacement of the goods, the supply

of equivalent goods, the repair of the goods, the payment of the cost of replacing the goods or of acquiring equivalent goods; or

- in the case of services; the supplying of the services again or the payment of the cost of having the services supplied again. Subject to rights that the Customer may have under the ACL, which are not excluded, modified or restricted by this provision, DriveAway Holidays is not liable to the Customer or any other person, whether in contract, tort or otherwise, for any loss or damages (including without limitation specific, indirect, consequential or economic loss) howsoever caused arising from any event.

Notwithstanding anything contained in this brochure, nothing in these terms and conditions:- excludes, restricts or modifies or purports to have the effect

of excluding, restricting or modifying any condition or warranty that is implied by, or consumer guarantee specified by, the ACL or DriveAway Holiday’s liability under any such condition, warranty or guarantee; or

- gives rise to any liability on the Customer’s part or qualifies DriveAway Holiday’s liability in circumstances where DriveAway Holidays is in breach of these terms and conditions, including any conditions or warranties implied, or consumer guarantees specified, by the ACL.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR INFORMATION AND SUPPLY OF GOODS OR SERVICES BY THIRD PARTIESResponsibility for Information: Vehicle specifications, photographs, illustrations, third party charges, third party conditions and information relating to goods or services provided by third parties contained in this brochure (collectively “Information”) are provided by third parties to DriveAway Holidays. All Information is subject to change without notice. The Customer must not rely on this Information. Any descriptions of the goods or services of any third parties in the Information is by way of identification only and the use or reliance on that description by any person shall not constitute any contract between that person and DriveAway Holidays as a sale by description. The Customer must make their own independent enquiries and investigations and undertake their own assessment of any Information before deciding whether or not the goods or services referred to in the Information are suitable for the requirements of the Customer. Without limiting the generality of this paragraph, city maps in this brochure are not to scale and car depot locations in this brochure are approximate only. Supply of Goods or Services by Third Parties: The goods and services identified in this brochure may be provided by a third party. In order for the Customer to obtain goods and services provided by a third party, the Customer may be required by that third party to agree to, and be bound by, terms and conditions that are specified by that third party. Any person intending to enter into an agreement with a third party must make their own independent enquiries and assessments in relation to the effect of the terms and conditions of that agreement before doing so. Subject to rights that the Customer may have under the ACL, which are not excluded, modified or restricted by this provision, the Customer acknowledges and agrees that DriveAway Holidays has no control over and no responsibility for any terms and conditions agreed between the Customer and a third party.THIRD PARTY LIABILITY (DAMAGE OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE)Provides cover for public liability and is subject to the car rental company’s terms and conditions on the rental agreement. DriveAway Holidays strongly recommends travelers purchase travel insurance to cover themselves and their passengers.GOVERNING LAWThese terms and conditions are governed in all respects by the law of the State of New South Wales and the Customer irrevocably submits to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the Courts of New South Wales and the Federal Court of Australia.
