World Skills Karnataka – 2020The Department of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood, (SDEL) Government of Karnataka, aims at channelizing the dynamism of Youth in nation building activities. The Department has come up with several programs to reach, engage and empower the Youth of Karnataka to facilitate Skilling activities across the State.

Department of SDEL has always been at the forefront of encouraging talent and has produced a large pool of talent who have made Karnataka and India proud in the Global Skill Competitions. Awards and financial assistance to identified skill talents have marked an extra mile so far towards achieving remarkable goals. Since 1950, many countries and regions across the globe have hosted World Skills Competition and with time comes experience. Department of SDEL, is all set to host most prestigious “World Skills Karnataka Competition - 2020” in the Month of March 2020. Aim is to aggressively train the winners of Karnataka Skill Competition 2020, who will be representing the “World Skill Competition – 2021 held at Shanghai, China in 2021.

Skills create opportunities and connects societies . They are the foundation of economic progress Government, Industry Partners, Academia and policy makers work together to raise the profile and recognize skilled professionals around the globe. Together we are increasing the abilities, status, and economic prospects of young people.

The World Skills Competition is a flagship event which is organized once in two years. It is the biggest vocational education and skills excellence event that truly reflects global industry with more than 1000 youth under 22 years competing in more than 50 skills. Founded in 1950, World Skills Competition is the global hub for skills excellence and development. World Skills brings youth, industries, and educators together to give youth the chance to compete, experience, and learn how to become the best in their skill of choice. World Skills vision is to improve the world through the power of skills. It has 75 Member countries and regions, all working with youth, educators, governments, and industries to help prepare the workforce and talent of today for the jobs of the future.

What is World Skills Competition?

With a vision to harvest the existing potential and to win maximum medals, Department of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood, (SDEL) Government of Karnataka, has partnered with prominent Industries like Toyota, Bosch, Auto Desk, Schneider Electric, UTL Technologies etc. The availability of strong potentiality in the opted skills shall increase the probability to grab medals at World Skills – 2021.

About World Skills India 2020World Skills India is an initiative of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) under the aegis of Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Government of India. NSDC, through its World Skills India initiative, has been leading the country’s participation at World Skills International competitions since 2011.

Who can apply for World Skills 2020?• Interested and eligible candidates must be born on or after 1 January 1999. Skills apart from mechatronics,

manufacturing team challenge, aeronautical engineering, cloud computing, cyber security and water technology, IT network cabling where competitors must be born on or after 1 January 1996.

• Mobile robotics, cyber security, landscape gardening, concrete construction work, and mechatronics are team skill competitions where a team of two individuals are required for the competition.

What is the selection process and how to participate?The potential competitors need to register through www.worldskillsindia.co.in to participate in World Skills India- 2020. The selection will be conducted by State Government, Sector skill councils in partnership with academic & industry partners at zonal and state level. The selected state champions will be competing in regional competitions which will be organized by World Skills India -2020 in partnership with sector skill councils, corporate and academic partners. The regional competition winners will be showcasing their skills at World Skills India – 2020.

Scope of Competition State Government of Karnataka will be the principle organizer of the skill competition at Zonal and State Level. The skill competition will be based on core values of fairness, transparency, integrity, partnership and excellence.

Provision of InfrastructureState Government of Karnataka will be responsible for providing / arranging suitable competition venue and trade wise workshop area and equipment for each skill competition in association with Industry Partners and Vocational Training partners.
