story: Asad Elabdi and his family came to theUnited States in 1997 as refugees from their nativeSomalia. He currently resides in the Cedar Riversideapartment complex near the west bank of the U of Mcampus. Asad enjoys learning about American culture,and has been heavily influenced by American musicand sports. Over the years Asad has worked toperfect his English and has admittedly become“more American”, but he recognizes the importanceof his past and the traditional cultural ideas that hisparents cling to.
