TAPETE
This booklet contains the program overview up to the level of sessions for the World of Photonics Congress—the leading international congress for optical technologies in Europe, which is being held in conjunction with LASER World of PHOTONICS 2013 from May 12–16, 2013. One main intention of the congress is to create an intense exchange between the scientific and industrial community. Topics are selected and discussed based on their scientific quality and the industrial relevance.
In 2011, the World of Photonics Congress experienced substantial growth in double-digits. In more than 2,500 speeches and presentations, leading scientists from around the world presented their research findings to more than 5,000 participants and examined future scenarios for optical technologies.
In 2013, the World of Photonics Congress will feature some of the most well known events in the sector for optical technologies. The congress consists of the following conferences:
CLEO®/Europe – IQEC (organized by EPS, OSA, IEEE Photonics Society) European Conferences on Biomedical Optics (ECBO) (organized by OSA, sponsored by OSA and SPIE) Optical Metrology (organized by SPIE Europe) Lasers in Manufacturing – LiM 2013 (organized by WLT) 2nd EOS Conference on Optofluidics (EOSOF) 3rd EOS Conference on Manufacturing of Optical Components (EOSMOC) Application Panels—Lasers and Photonics in Actual Practice (organized by MMG & its partners)
The organizational structure of the World of Photonics Congress, which indicates its application orientation and the topics covered by the various conferences, gives congress participants optimum transparency, which makes it perfect for planning purposes.
All attendees are invited to participate in the opening ceremony of the congress on May 13 at 9:30. Additional joint events are open to all attendees and exhibitors in order to create a platform for exchange.
We are convinced that the World of Photonics Congress will provide an optimum overview that includes all aspects of the photonics sector, and that having the congress and world’s leading exhibition under a single roof combined with excel- lent facilities in Munich will contribute to stimulating discussions and enhance communication between researchers working on basic research and on industrial applications.

The Herbert Walther Award honors Professor Herbert Walther for the seminal influence of his groundbreaking innovations in quantum optics and atomic physics and for his numerous contributions to the international scientific community. The Award is jointly sponsored by DPG and OSA and presented by each society in alternate years.
During the CLEO®/Europe – IQEC award ceremony on Tuesday May 14,The Optical Society (OSA) and the Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft (DPG)will present the joint 2013 Herbert Walther Award to H. Jeff Kimble of the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) for his “pioneering experimental contributions to quantum optics, cavity quantum electrodynamics, and quantum information science.”
H. Jeff Kimble will also present an invited talk in the CLEO®/Europe – IQEC program: “Quantum Networks Enabled by Quantum Optics” on Tuesday afternoon, May 14.
GERMAN BIOPHOTONIC RESEARCH PROGRAMMonday–Thursday, 13–16 May,Hall B1, Stand B1.340Putting research into practice: Biophotonic innovations for Medicine and the Life SciencesBiophotonics research is one of the driving forces in medical technology, and the associated market is developing quickly. Due to the highly interdisciplinary character of biophotonics, collaborative research has proven as an indispens- able strategy for successful commercialization. The exhibition booth will display ongoing research activities, as well as product developments emerging from recent collaborative projects funded by the German Ministry of Research (BMBF). Exhibits will illustrate major innovations from the fields of super-resolution microscopy, in-vivo optical imaging, and Point-of Care (POC) Diagnostics.
