• Step #1 = Man begins to develop farming techniques with simple crops

• Step #2 = Man starts to domesticate animals for work and food

Result = Man no longer has to move around to survive. Villages start to form.

1) Villages get larger as families get larger

2) Villages turn into cities

3) Nearby cities join together to form civilizations

To be considered a civilization, it must have 7 characteristics

1) Cities2) Complex Institutions (ex. cultural norms)3) Record Keeping (ex. writing skills, centralized leadership)4) Advanced Technology (ex. sanitation, water)5) Specialized Workers (ex. people who only do certain jobs)6) Religion (ex. faith in some sort of higher authority)7) Social Classes (ex. difference between leaders and followers)
