Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot met his cabinet a day after the Governor sent back his request for an assembly session from Friday with three conditions that include a 21-day notice and a coronavirus plan for the house. In its cabinet meeting, the Gehlot government said it was its “right” to call for the session. Transport Minis- ter Pratap Singh said a discussion was held for the reply to be sent re- garding the three points raised by the governor. “The Cabinet wants the assembly session from July 31. The proposal which was sent earlier for calling the session is our legal right and we are sending it again to the governor,” he told reporters. “The governor’s questions are simple and we discussed their reply. He has no right to be raising queries yet we are giving the reply,” he said. Singh also said that the government wants no confrontation with the gov- ernor and hoped Mishra will now ac- cept the cabinet proposal for calling the session. “We want permission to call the assembly session which is our right. We do not want any confrontation with the governor. If he does not ac- cept this now, then it is clear that there is no Constitution in the coun- try,” he said. On the issue of 21-day notice re- quired for calling the session, the minister said that 10 days have al- ready passed and asked why did the governor not give a date if he is talk- ing the notice. He said that if the governor rejects the proposals now, the further course of action will be decided. “We have no competition with the gover- nor, he is the head of our family,” Singh said. Rajasthan BJP MLA Madan Di- lawar filed two writ petitions chal- lenging the assembly Speaker’s deci- sion to reject his complaint against the merger of six BSP MLAs with the Congress. The first petition was filed this morning against a communica- tion received from the assembly sec- retariat Monday that the complaint has been decided and rejected by the Speaker, the counsel for Dilawar said. Gehlot govt sends revised proposal to Governor Harish Dubey/Rahat Khan Karaira In the assembly by-elections to be held on 27 seats in the state, the names of many serious contenders have emerged for the Congress ticket in almost every seat. There are many seats where 40 to 50 activists have filed a claim on the Congress ticket, but the situation is completely opposite on the Karaira seat. Pragilal Jatav, who came to the Congress from the BSP a month ago, is being considered almost certain, but in 2013, Shakuntala Khatik, who was an MLA from here, has also claimed the ticket saying that she is putting her political career at stake with the BJP. I have not gone to BJP, so they should get the reward of loy- alty as a ticket, she said. Here the Congress is embroiled in the claims of Pragilal and Shakunta- la, while the picture in the BJP is clear. Jasmant Jatav, who quit the legislature and Congress in support of Scindia, is certain to be nominat- ed by the BJP as its candidate. Jas- mant Jatav has also started his elec- tion campaign, although he is facing public opposition. In many places he faced black flags and angry slogans. Pragilal, who joined the Congress in front of Kamal Nath, has contest- ed from the BSP ticket thrice from here. In 2008, he was second, while in 2018, he was in third place after getting 40,026 votes. The Congress hopes that he will divert the BSP’s vote to the Congress. Bird sanctuary, sand quarrying main issues Both the major parties have de- cided the electoral issues for the Karaira by-election. People from 32 villages in the area have settled in the Sonchiraiya Sanctuary. Sonchi- raya or Great Indian Bustard has not been seen here for years but people are upset due to restrictions. Roads in Karaira are poor and the illegal sand mining is also at its peak. While outgoing MLA Jasmant is accused of illegal sand trading, in the event of Pragilal being made a Con- gress candidate, the BJP may raise a case of alleged possession of twelve bigha land of the temple in his vil- lage Gadhai. The Congress is now ac- cusing BJP candidate Jasmant of not fulfilling the promises made to the people in the last election. Rajmata Scindia has also been an MLA from here Karaira has once been the seat of veterans who played an important role in state politics. After leaving the Congress in 1967, Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia won the Jana Sangh ticket from here. Later in 1977, Rajmata’s sister Sushmasih also emerged victo- rious from here. Karaira was ranked as a minister- ial seat in the Congress era. Gautam Sharma of Congress, who won in 1957 and 1962, emerged as a power- ful leader of the state by becoming food minister of the state, while Dau Hanumant Singh Arjun Singh, who won in 1980, 1985, was Irrigation Minister in the governments of Moti- lal Vora etc. Here there has been a competition of equality between the Congress and the BJP.
